Best Of 2017: RAC's 5+2 Favorite Transformers Figures Of The Year
Super Mario Odyssey is now one of the fastest-growing games in the speedrunning community
Mario games are just plain fun to speedrun. Super Mario 3D World quickly became a favorite of mine, but I also partake in plenty of side-by-side speedrun contests with a friend in pretty much every game in the series.
Every 3D iteration has that special spark, but Super Mario Odyssey spurred tons of people into action since its launch. Although it may not seem like much, Odyssey just logged its 1,000th speedrun submission within two months, making it the most submitted game to date within that timeframe. It's also currently the most active game right now on the site (right behind it is Super Mario 64, even still!).
As I've said Mario games really have an impact on the community, as the two most popular speedrun titles of all time include Super Mario Sunshine and 64.

BP sets $1.5 billion charge for U.S tax changes but sees long-term boost
Oil giant BP (BP.L) will take a one-off $1.5 billion (1 billion pounds) charge to adjust to new U.S. tax rules, but expects a long-term boost from the corporate-friendly tax rates, it said on Tuesday. BP's rival Royal Dutch Shell (RDSa.L) said last week it would incur a one-off charge of $2-$2.5 billion for the U.S. tax changes. Like BP, Shell and many other international companies said they expected a long-term positive impact to U.S. earnings from the massive $1.5 trillion tax overhaul that U.S. President Donald Trump signed into law last month.

Arc System Works looking forward to new year, will hold anniversary event in 2019
Anime fighting game developers Arc System Works have released a video sending gratitude and good wishes to their fans at the start of 2018, which is set to be one of the company's most successful years in some time.
In the light-hearted, slightly goofy vid, ArcSys CEO Minoru Kidooka, COO Daisuke Ishiwatari, and Development Director Toshimichi Mori, thank fans for their support throughout 2017 and speak of the company's growth from a small, three-person studio to the industry giants behind such titles as BlazBlue, Guilty Gear and Persona 4: Arena. As part of the company's 30th anniversary, ArcSys will hold a celebratory "festival" in May 2019, although no details are given as to what this event will entail.
2018 is set to be a grand year for the studio. Having recently opened offices in the U.S, ArcSys will no doubt be preparing for the release of the fantastic Dragon Ball FighterZ on January 26, while continuing work on crossover title BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, expected to release later this year.

PUBG Corp is looking to bring the hit game to 'every platform'
In a recent interview with InvenGlobal, the CEO of PUBG Corp, CH Kim, laid out some of the plans the team has for the future of the franchise. Yes, that is correct; franchise. PUBG isn't going to stay as just a game if they can maintain the popularity around the title.
The first interesting bit, though, concerns PUBG eventually coming to other platforms. When pressed about whether or not a PS4 version is in the works, Kim stated, "As it’s going to be an exclusive title on Xbox One for some time, we’d like to focus on completing the Xbox One PUBG for now. If we have the opportunity, the final goal would be to launch the title on every platform." A Switch version would actually be pretty awesome for this game, despite the console probably dying after a single round.
The biggest reason that PUBG isn't on a rival platform (apart from the timed exclusivity for Xbox One) is that Sony doesn't have an early-access style storefront. "Early Access on Steam and Game Preview on Xbox One are like pre-release," Kim stressed, "so they don’t have a restriction on quality. However, PS is very strict about this. There were cases where a game took 6 months more to launch even when it was already completed." I suppose this is ignoring the deluge of garbage getting on Sony's storefront (Life of Black Tiger), but seeing as how those games are "finished," I guess Sony just won't allow early-access style content.
As for what the company may eventually grow into beyond this game, Kim shared, "I’d like PUBG to become a universal media franchise based on the game. We want to take part in diverse industries including Esports, movies, drama, cartoons, animation, and more. In fact, we received a couple of love calls from a number of developers in Hollywood and Netflix. Our dream is to build a new game-based culture through various ways like this, and have the lead of that culture."
As groan inducing as that sounds, it looks like we haven't seen the last of PUBG. Hopefully all of these distractions from the main title don't lead to a dip in quality going forward.
I’d like PUBG to become a universal media franchise,” CH Kim, the CEO of PUBG Corp. [InvenGlobal]
