It's Fun To Grow With Kidocent
My Early Days
As a child, growing up my parents were always around, when I needed them. Still, they followed an upbringing which gave me the independence to take life’s decisions on my own. This I guess, was one of the most important things I learnt from a very young age which prepared me for the future.
I did my MBA in Finance, was a banker for nearly a decade and was happy as an ambitious career oriented woman.
Birth Of Kidocent
In 2009, when my daughter ‘Sydelle’ was born, my hubby and I spent a lot of time looking out for eco and child friendly products which would be safe for her. However, we realized the entire market was flooded with products for kids, which were not only toxic but also hazardous. Worldwide, there are many safety norms for manufacturing as well as importing kids products, which are not placed in India.
I started scouting online and asking friends and family abroad to pick things for my child on their trip to India. It made me realize that there was a gap in what was available here and the products available worldwide with reference to eco and child friendly products.
Being an entrepreneur and having my own business always kicked me right from the start. But giving up a long career and taking it up was always a dilemma. Once I joined back work, I needed a balance in my professional and personal life so as to ensure I was around when my daughter needed me. That’s when I decided to give up my job and wear the entrepreneurial hat!
Challenges I Faced
We started off with Wall Stickers and since it was a new concept we needed to create awareness amongst our customers. Secondly, not many are aware of the toxic content in kids products which are available at lower costs in the market.
To overcome this we participated in exhibitions as well as collaborated with other mompreneurs to showcase our products and review them on their blogs. This allowed the customers to see how our products were used and we could also provide insight on how toxics can harm their children.
Though many a times you would like to think of yourself as the Boss, initially, you land up being the peon, accountant, marketing person, sales woman all in one.
Time Management & Multi-Tasking is what helped me the most.
Starting a business, juggling between various activities and handling a family requires a lot of time and patience. All this would not have been possible without the support of my husband.
