Ashley Wood is the famed designer behind 3A Toys. His own creations have sparked praise from collectors, but his takes on licensed properties have had a couple of ups and downs. Regardless, you can always tell an Ashley Wood piece when you see it. What fans will have to wait for now is his latest contribution to the world of 3A, the Marvel Comics license. The first set of characters to see the 3A treatment will be Doctor Doom, Wolverine, Iron Man and M.O.D.O.K. Wood has also stated his interest in making a 25" Galactus.
While this does sound like a very good thing, it matters on what vision you have for these figures. If you're a general fan of Wood's work, this is incredible news. However, it also depends on what we get. Will it be a fairly-close rendition like the Metal Gear Rex or will it be a stretched-out, in name only interpretation like his Zaku from Mobile Suit Gundam. If it's the later, I don't think people will generally like what will come out of it.
However, he may just surprise us and make some very good pieces. At the very least, my curiosity is at least piqued. As the community, what do you guys make of this latest endeavor? Are you excited over what may come or just don't care for Wood's style? Let us know in the comments!
