  • 01/29/13--17:29: TGS13 Culture Japan Booth

  • Photos of our booth at the Thailand Game Show 2013. It was our first time in Thailand and I was looking forward to experiencing the culture, learning new ropes and meeting new comrades.
    I was invited to the Thailand Game Show to give a keynote talk and thought it made sense to have a booth at the same time.

    It was difficult to gauge just how many readers and viewers of Culture Japan we had in Thailand. I thought we would sell at least 50 T-shirts over the 3 day event. But even though I expected to make a loss in terms of setting up booth, shipping merchandise and hiring staff, I was prepared to invest the money spent on everything to gain a new experience and learnings - experience and learnings which would not have come about if we just decided to do nothing.
    More importantly however - it was crucial to make time to meet readers and viewers. I was not prepared for what was about to happen over the next 3 days.

    I was completely overwhelmed at the response and support from folks in Thailand! We sold about 610 Moekana T-shirts and all our posters, Moekana and paper bags became no more liao.

    We spoke to folks who bought stuff at our booth and found that about 80% of the folks didn't know about Mirai Suenaga but they thought she was cute from the illustrations so decided to pick something up. I then discovered increased incoming traffic from Thai search engines and BBS ever since.

    From this experience, I realise that the costs of the booth should be considered as marketing costs as the exposure alone is worth the effort of setting everything up.

    There were also a ton of lovely Mirai-chan cosplayers who showed their support! It was great to meet all of them - more photos further down the post. This is the lovely Tina!

    Would like to thank our local Thai staff and Akibatan for helping out!

    Setting up - the booth looked quite empty on the first day as customs didn't want to let our merchandise go. When they finally did, they charged us 80% import tax. We still managed to make a small profit after costs of booth, staff, shipping and tax though.

    Mannequins were procured locally - I feel that the merchandise looks better than just on a plain hanger.

    Bags opened and stacked helps speed up transactions at the till.

    Our 3D menus ^^;

    As we didn't expect many people to buy our stuff, we had no crowd control measures in place and it was chaos for a lot of the time ^^;

    We had a doll display for folks to leave their daughters - it was like a day care center ^^;

    Our Thai DJ Pok!

    By this time, many folks started to receive their Mirai Nendoroid - did you get yours yet?

    Tower O Mirai paper bags - something to do with the last bags ^^;

    Meanwhile just outside our booth we spotted some Mirai cosplayers! I dont have their details or names though ><
    If you know who they are then lemme know!

    Together with Team Thailand - the cosplay team you saw at AFA12.

    The new fun way to learn Japanese - Moekana.

    MiraiClock3 for your Android and iOS device.

    This is Marron as Mirai-chan!

    This is Ruki as Haruka-chan.

    And this is Ayami Sora as kanata-chan.

    More photos of Tina.

    Reporting in For Channel V Thailand - the recording can be seen below.

    Caption that photo.

    Naoki as Mirai in Winter uniform.

    We use Square as our till to keep track of orders - would be completely lost without it.

    All posters sold out!

    And the Thailand Game Show event photos are coming up soon!

    I just love Victorian Era dresses and also love creating penny rug pictures using wool felt and thought penny rug Victorian dress picture decorations would be nice.  So, my Victorian Dresses Series was born.

    Green With Envy Belle is an e-pattern to create a 5" by 7" Victorian wool felt dress picture in a 7" by 9" purchased picture frame in a penny rug style design.

    The felt dress piece is embroidered to the felt background,  the felt dress overskirt piece is embroidered to the felt dress piece, and the felt overskirt center is embroidered to the overskirt.  Lace trims, seed beads, and other embellishments are sewn to the dress, overskirt, and center overskirt piece.

    The base and back lining are blanket stitch embroidered along the edges.  The chain stitching is embroidered around the edges.

    The pattern can be made as just a penny rug wool felt blanket stitched picture or enclosed within a wall picture frame or tabletop picture frame.

    The pattern includes text instructions, step-by-step color diagrams for finishing the penny rug dress picture from start to finish, full page picture layout sheet,  and full page single sided pattern piece sheets.  The pattern also includes step-by-step illustrations and instructions for Basic Blanket Stitching and Basic Chain Stitch Instructions.

    The "Egg Muff's" are a fun loving group of dolls that love to sneak around and maybe, every once in awhile, drop in unexpectedly. And, the Toni E. Hawk and her brother, Tom A. Hawk, are the most fun loving of the group. You might find then peaking around a corner, peaking over the windowsill, peaking through a keyhole in a door, or sneaking into your room. You just never know. Sometimes you might just catch a glimpse of their eyes and hair as they try to sneak a peak. If you listen carefully, you might even hear them laughing, even chuckling away. Sometimes you might even catch them doing a little jig. You just never know what they may do. They love to laugh. They love to have fun. But, most of all they love to play hide and peak! No, not hide and seek! Hide and peak!

    The 3 middle children are Wild Irish Rose Hawk, Tangerine Lilly Hawk, and Henrietta Hawk.   Tangerine Lilly Hawk takes after her older brother, Tom A. Hawk.  If someone is pulling a prank on someone else Lilly is the first person suspected.

    Tangerine Lilly Hawk is an 7" squared bottomed self-standing wool felt softie doll. She has a 1/2 white felt and 1/2  beige felt body. Her face is outlined and embroidered and she has large satin stitched eyes. She has a triangle nose which is embroidered as is her mouth, eyelashes and eyebrows. She has orange blushed cheeks.

    Tangerine Lilly Hawk has an unbelievable mass of crazy orange hair along the bottom side seams and top of her head with the back of her head left bald. She is wearing her favorite orange felt shirt with matching felt collar and favorite beige felt vest. A matching beige felt bow looks adorable under her chin.

    You never know what Tangerine Lilly Hawk might be up to so it's best to be on alert when she's around.  If there's a prank being pulled look out for Tangerine Lilly.  It's sure to be doozy.

    Sometimes you just totally enjoy what you're designing. Such was the case with my new "It's Raining Baby Showers" penny rug wool felt baby pictures.

    I had been wanting to create wool felt penny rug type pictures for my "It's Raining Baby Showers" baby shower decorations line and thought that pictures with baby heads in buntings raining down under umbrellas would be cute.

    I thought they'd make cheery and adorable pictures to decorate a baby girls or baby boys nursery or to decorate a baby girls or baby boys baby shower? It's raining babies, rattles, umbrella's, and rain drops.

    It's Raining Baby Girls is a pattern to create an  8/12" by 11" penny rug pink wool felt picture mounted on a pink 11" by 14" foam backboard and framed within a 16" by 18" white washed white table top frame. Three baby girls bundled in baby buntings and three baby boys bundled in baby buntings are raining down under a delightful pink decorated and embroidered wool felt umbrella. Yellow rattles decorated with ribbon bows and rain drops are scattered throughout the picture.

    The wool felt picture is made from two pink pieces of wool felt (8 1/2" by 11") which are blanket stitched around all the edges. The pink umbrella is embellished with bright pink bows and embroidered with accent lines.  The baby heads have embroidered and blushed cheek faces, yarn for hair, creme felt buntings, and ribbon bows for decorations.

    The pattern can be made as just a penny rug wool felt blanket stitched picture or enclosed within a wall picture frame or tabletop picture frame.

    For more information on and to purchase my "It's Raining Baby Girls" e-pattern please CLICK HERE.
