ESC-Toy brings some new releases for the holidays
Erick Scarecrow and ESC-Toy have just dropped a bunch of new releases in the ESC-Toy Shop, and it's a nice line-up for those of you who are fans of designer toys, the urban look or just Erick's own work. They're also just in time for the holidays if you want to get a gift for someone else ... or yourself. Don't worry, we won't tell.
New in the shop are:
- Flying Crow Crow Bear by ESC-Toy and Moriya (Six pieces, US$300), the latest 6.5-inch resin figure to come out of ESC-Toy's studio; anyone who buys this figure also gets two prints with their purchase
- A new Monster Kolor x ESC colorway of Dizign known as Gaizer Dizign (12 pieces, US$130) that comes with an 8.5-by-11 Giclee print (Erick notes that the print has extremely graphic elements which some collectors might find offensive)
- The next ESC/Frombie collab colorway, which is the blue Tunic Kami x Sama (20 pieces; cast in resin; US$30), which comes with a matching Frombie pin while supplies last
- The last of the Pretty Boi Silver Bastards (US$250); this was a limited run of five released, but four have already sold
- Two new Giclee 11-by-17 prints from Erick: Night Lantern (limited to 30 pieces; US$55) and Old Skool Kaiju in the Lab (open run; US$35)
Check out the gallery for photos of all the pieces and the links above for more details. I'm digging the ESC x Frombie piece, but the prints the Crow Crow Bear comes with are pretty awesome, too.

Blamo Toys Custom Show starts tomorrow at Toy Art Gallery
Toy Art Galley may have recently hosted Blamo Toys' own Mikie Graham for his show, The Return of the Zombie Art Project, but that doesn't meant they are quite through with the artist collective yet. Blamo Toys' 4th Annual Custom Show begins tomorrow, December 15, at the gallery's location in Los Angeles, California. The show this year will focus on their adorable Hug figures as over 50 artist put their own spin on the affectionate character.
Mikie Graham is not only one of the show's curators but also has one of his own pieces in the exhibit. Entitled "The Temptation of Hug," the entry features a handcrafted 6 inch tall Hug (with 4 points of articulation in the arms -- as opposed the usual zero). Hovering above each of this made-from-scratch figure's shoulders (with the aid of clear plastic rods) is a mini Hug, one devil and one angel. It is quite a complex piece!
Another piece you will have a chance to see up close is Josh Mayhem's "The Hug Machine." Loaded up with with cogs and gears, it looks a little like one of Dr. Eggman's devices except that, according to the artist, it is "powered by love." Check out the little cockpit in the front of the figure with the tiny pink pilot (it can even be removed!). The amount of detail is really something to marvel at.
You can see "The Temptation of Hug" and "The Hug Machine" as well as many other spectacular custom figures at Blamo Toys' 4th Annual Custom Show taking place at Toy Art Gallery, located at 7571 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90046. The show runs from December 15 to December 30. If you are in the area, be sure to stop by!
