2013's Grand Theft Auto V is back atop the UK Charts
Rockstar's crime-ridden magnum opus, Grand Theft Auto V, is back in the number one spot of the UK charts, some five years after its release. The open-world title shoved passed both Call of Duty: WWII and FIFA 18, both of which have held a monopoly on the top spot, to steal the glory.
Since I've been listing the weekly charts, a lot of you fine folk have been flabbergasted by GTAV's ability to maintain consistent high placing this far into its life. While I could write an entire essay on reasons why, learned from years of standing behind shop counters, it is essentially the result of several factors.
Firstly, GTAV is a go-to entry purchase with almost every console sold. When people pick up "a PS4/Xbox and some games", one of those games, more often that not, is GTAV. It is also consistently cheap, and usually included in sales and bundle deals. GTA games are also the single most consumer-damaged discs, requiring re-purchases, sometimes multiple times by the same customers.
GTAV is a very popular "itch-scratching" title, with many customers re-selling and re-buying the title in a perpetual cycle of repetition. Finally, the game's controversy simply never, ever stops inquisitive kids from wanting to get their mitts on it, long after everyone else has long gotten over its dubious themes.
Again, this isn't even scratching the surface on what has enabled Rockstar's digital crime spree to run and run for the past five years, and likely into the near-future, but just the pattern I've personally witnessed for GTAV and its many predecessors.
Elsewhere, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has shot up from twelfth to fifth place, while fellow Nintendo releases Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey still cling on to Top Ten positions. Further down the charts, re-entries were made by Resident Evil 7, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and The Evil Within 2.

Nintendo says the Switch will have a 'long lifespan'
Nintendo telling us that they'll support their systems is nothing new.
They spouted their undying love for the Wii U for several years, and even tried to salvage it with a handful of great first-party games near the end, but it just wasn't enough and they dropped it like a sack of potatoes. The 3DS might suffer the same fate in 2018, because while Reggie and several other executives have claimed that it has some life in it yet, there aren't enough projects in the pipeline to back that up. So that leaves the Switch.
According to Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima, the Switch is entering a "crucial" second year, one of which that will be part of a "long lifespan." To accomplish this they're going to keep expanding to users "who have never touched game machines too much," a strategy last seen on the Wii.
In case you're worried that Nintendo is going to go full Wii Fit, don't be. The thing about the Switch is that it offers options. There's motion for those who want it, and tactile controls, including Pro Controllers, for the core audience. The portable factor and strong indie showing already is also a good sign that innovators are all-in for long term support. It's good to be Nintendo right now.

Scribblenauts Showdown finally confirmed for PS4, Xbox One and Switch
After numerous ratings board reveals and even a Play-Asia pre-order page, Warner Bros. have finally officially announced Scribblenauts Showdown, coming to consoles this March.
The word-based platform-puzzler will feature all new party modes, allowing multiple players to scribble it out in over 25 tasks and mini-games. These include fishing, eating competitions, racing modes and drone-assisted deliveries, according to the game's latest ESRB rating.
Sandbox mode will feature classic Scribblenauts action, with one or two players adventuring through a series of levels, solving problems and collecting hidden items with the aid of little more than their imagination and a wealth of objects and animals plucked straight from their heads. Not literally, that would be hideous.
You can check out the new teaser trailer, and its intolerable narration, below. Scribblenauts Showdown will launch for PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on March 6 in North America and March 9 in Europe.

Splatoon 2 is the first two-million seller on home consoles in Japan in nearly a decade
Splatoon 2 is immensely popular in Japan. So popular in fact that residents build working models of the in-game paint guns, and host multiple events including holographic Callie & Marie concerts. The first Splatoon did very well for itself over there, but the low popularity of the Wii U didn't help things.
Now with the Switch to assist in spreading its wings, Splatoon 2 has soared over most of the Japanese games industry. According to Media Create, Splatoon 2 has sold two million copies just in Japan. This figure might not seem like much given that so many games like GTA V break records in the west, but over there it doesn't happen all that often on consoles. (Portables are a different story, which have hosted several multi-million sellers).
The last time that number was reached on a console in Japan was nearly a decade ago, back in 2010 with Wii Party (love that game!).

The Senate is one vote away from a symbolic victory on net neutrality
Democrats are pushing a vote to restore net neutrality protections the FCC ended in December. The House will also have to pass the bill, and President Trump will have to sign it. Democrats need just one more vote in the Senate to guarantee passage of a bill to restore the net neutrality rules killed by the FCC in December.
