There was a time when Takara Tomy didn't seem to really notice Wonder Festival, instead choosing to display at bigger events like the Tokyo Toy Show. But as they continue to focus more and more on the collectors market their presence at Wonder Festival keeps getting bigger. This time around they seem to have their biggest display yet, though their focus is most definitely on nostalgic guys with some money to burn.
Of course the first stop at their display has to be the Transformers. The centerpiece this time around is probably Masterpiece Cheetor from Beast Wars, the second figure from the CG animated series to get the MP treatment after Optimus Primal coming later this year. We've seen him unpainted before, but our first look at him in full color is nothing short of phenomenal! Check out those cartoon accurate cheetah faces and that gun. This is going to be one heck of a cool figure that a lot of people are looking forward to, maybe even more than Primal. G1 Inferno was also on display, but unpainted so I'll point you towards a previous article instead.
For other Transformers goodies they also had the latest from both Legends (the line that will be offering their version of the Titans Return figures) and Adventures (their version of Robots in Disguise). While for the most part Takara Tomy at Hasbro are offering the same characters, the figures are a little bit different. The Legends figures all feature new heads and decos based on the Japan-only Headmasters cartoon. The figure to get the biggest change is Super Ginrai when compared to Hasbro's Powermaster Optimus Prime which features a new regular Ginrai head inside the bigger Super Ginrai head, and even more so a new truck cab/chest, new forearms and fists, new hips, new feet, and some new guns. The Adventures figures aren't as extensively worked over, but they do have new paint apps that are closer to the cartoon.
Moving slightly over we've got the Transformers granddaddy, Diaclone. It looks like TT has decided to go all out on their revamped Diaclone line by adding lots of mini human figures in armor and little mecha and vehicles for them to run around in. If you're into lines that you can army build the hell out of then this is definitely one to watch.
Shifting gears it would seem Takara Tomy is ramping up their hanging accessories. They're offering a rather large selection of rubber straps, key chains, charms and whatever else you can hang off your phone or bag. Looks like most of it comes from the various Pretty Rhythm spin-offs including the most recent King of Prism by PrettyRhythm, but I recognize a couple others in there.
Finally they had a rather extensive display of Star Wars: The Force Awakens figures and vehicles. Not a whole lot to be said about these since I'm fairly sure a lot of these have been released already, but it still makes for a rather impressive display. Also on display are a few Thunderbolts items and a new line of kid-friendly mini robots and playsets that I don't recognize.
All in all a great showing for Takara Tomy. AmiAmi posted a huge image gallery, but you can find a selection of pics mirrored in our gallery below.
