Good Smile Company has itself a U.S. office in Los Angeles, but now, as highlighted by IshokuOsero in Veila's latest C-Blog, they have a new voice to go with it. Within the past few weeks, GSC has hired Frances Delgado of How A Girl Figures and AX Live to basically be the Mikatan for the LA office. For those of you might remember, Frances has been featured in our Tomopop Roundtable Round-up feature before, and she and I were both on an episode of Otaku in Review that focused on collecting.
Frances' alias will be Mamitan (following tradition with Good Smile Japan's Mikatan and Good Smile France's Maritan), and she's already got a Twitter and Tumblr set up. She'll eventually have a Mikatan-style blog and will be writing in both English and Spanish for the North American market. So go say hi to Mamitan (yes, you can tell them Tomopop sent you), and congrats to Frances on the new job!
I Just LOVE This Picture!
I just LOVE this picture of the Blue Footed Booby of the Galapagos Islands that was shared on Facebook the other day.
I don't know why but every time I look at it I get inspired to create something. Maybe it's the big blue feet or the determined look in his eyes.
Perhaps he'll become the newest member of the "Victorian Animals Tea Society."
What do you think?

Under the Radar: Jazwares releases Hanna-Barbera figures
After deciding that X Plus USA's mildly expensive Hanna-Barbera figurines just weren't for me, I began to wonder if we'd ever see proper figures of these characters again. And then I learned that Jazwares was doing a line. And that it was supposedly already hitting retail in places.
The news that Jazwares has done their own Hanna-Barbera line will surprise many and baffle some. Most fans, however, will be pleased to get articulate representations of some very underrepresented characters like Hong Kong Phooey and Huckleberry Hound as well as icons like Yogi Bear and Tom & Jerry.
The weird thing about this line is that it seems to be broken into 4-inch and 6-inch seemingly non-scaled figures (leaving Tom as tall as Jerry, for starters... in fact, they probably share parts! See their in-pack photos in the gallery for a better idea). While the lack of proper scale is annoying and the quality might have issues, I still can't help but be overjoyed at the prospect of picking figures for many of the cartoon characters that I enjoyed watching as a child and a man-child.
So far we've seen Hong Kong Phooey (comes with Spot), Huckleberry Hound, and Space Ghost (comes with Blip) for the 6-inch assortment as well as Fred Flintstone, Dino, Rosie (Jetsons), Tom, Jerry, and Yogi Bear for the 4-inch assortment. These are all hitting retail now. Secret Squirrel and Captain Caveman will supposedly be joining them as well at some point, although photos aren't currently available. Personally, I'm hoping that Jazwares will tackle the Herculoids at some point as well as Dick Dastardly and Muttley (hehehe). Speaking of dogs, I'm guessing Scooby won't be on the menu because we haven't seen him thus far and I believe that he still has his own toy line. Also here's to hoping that Jazwares will give us some Grape Ape.

Three new events roll into Rotofugi
Rotofugi's gallery is going to be a hopping joint for the next few months, and that starts with a double opening reception on Sept. 7! Both Luke Chueh's I Am Your Plaything and J*RYU's The Ghost of You Haunted Me will be opening at 7 p.m. at Rotofugi (2780 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago), with Luke and Jesse in attendance. As you can see, it looks like J*RYU will have some new sculptwork on display in his ghost-like series of creations, including a half-bird, half-rodent like creature. Can we get this in a larger sculpt, by any chance?
Meanwhile, in October, The Beast Brothers are bringing some masked wrasslin' to the Windy City with their Lucha Libre group show. The event will feature new art from The Beast Brothers, Angry Woebots, Brandt Peters and Kathie Olivas, BurunDANGA, Chris Ryniak, Eric Merrill, Huck Gee, Jime Litwalk, Joe Capobianco, J*RYU, Junko Mizuno, Kronk, Michael Motorcycle, Patrick Cornolo, Phil Young, Sara Antoinette Martin, Scribe & Alisa, Mr. Shane Jessup, Shawnimals, Sket One, Sourbones, TADO and Tim Tsui. A very impressive line-up, indeed! You can check out Lucha Libre and meet the Beast Brothers at the opening on Friday, Oct. 5 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., or catch the show before it ends on Oct. 28.
