Style Reinvented With Little Pixie
The Itch Factor!
I think most women in their mid to late 20’s (like myself); can safely say that their birthday parties from infancy to toddlerhood, were not always pleasant experiences. The cake was great, numerous presents made the day, and getting together with family and friends was the best part – but then there was an itch!
All those beautiful memories for me were close to being destroyed (I’m being dramatic, but these were my thoughts as a child), by the itchy, scratchy, poky, hot, clammy and extremely uncomfortable dress I was wearing. What’s worse is that my birthday is in May, and would fall in the worst part of summer, leaving me sweating buckets inside my 100% polyester dress, and in a foul mood.
It’s My Party And I Will Cry If I Want To…
Ever wonder why the birthday girl throws tantrums on her birthday? Well yes, it is probably because she gets to be princess for the day and is being showered with gifts and attention (and that’s what princesses do!), but it could also be that she was truly uncomfortable in what she was wearing.
Are We Still Stuck In The 80’s?
Back when I was growing up, there were limited choices to buy a pretty party dress that wasn’t entirely made of polyester. To my surprise (after a little ‘market research’), the problem still stands, about 20 years later. One would wonder why, with all the awareness about natural fabrics and their benefits, people would still buy frilly and flouncy dresses made from tacky materials that are only good for trapping sweat in. Is looking cute and princess-like really worth sacrificing your comfort over?
Comfort + Style = One Happy Little Girl
This was one the reasons I started Little Pixie. For those of you who haven’t heard of Little Pixie, it is a designer clothing brand for little girls aged 2-7 years. I started this brand in 2011, and I am the Designer/Owner. My intention was and still is to create beautiful clothes (our forte being dresses for special occasions), that are beautiful, well crafted, durable and most importantly – comfortable.
All the fabrics we use are cotton based and completely lined with cotton, and we are still able to achieve the ‘party’ or formal look through our designs in the form of detailing and embellishments.
Three years into little Pixie and I hope I have been able to change the minds of a few moms in India. And most importantly, I hope that little girls are enjoying their birthday parties more now that they are actually comfortable and happy in what they are wearing.
Nishita Toprani, is the Owner and Designer of Little Pixie. She was born, brought up and lives in Mumbai. She originally began her career in fashion as a women's wear designer.
What started out as an 'experimental' dress for a friend’s 3 year old daughter, turned into a flourishing new brand of beautiful dresses and other clothing for little girls.
