Mechawhales Animation from Hauke Scheer

$

Hauke Scheer of Deep Fried Figures shares with us the latest adventure of the Mechawhales, with the 3rd animation posted below, above the previous 2 episodes (for a more complete viewing experience). The series runs parallel to the release of his Mechawhale toy release (currently available via dketoys.com = and for which i need to get my bum in-gear to review the toy).
"This animation introduces the Alien Bionic Warrior as well as the Narwhale. It also features the Orca again in a more prominent role. This animation is just a little fight sequence to kill the wait for a longer animation that I am currently planning. The next one will introduce some new alien races as well as some evil whale mutations." ~mentioned Hauke.

MY Trio Of Needle Felted Handmade Flower Fairy Art Dolls

My trio of handmade needle felted OOAK flower fairy art dolls are as different as they are alike.  For sure they are all flower fairies and for sure they all love flowers and gardening.  They are all the best of friends and love to do everything together and today have decided to re-pot some of their flowers and plants.

As far as flower fairies are concerned they don't get any sweeter than Pearl. She's as sweet as pie and has nothing bad to say about anyone or anything. She loves her life and loves sitting out in the woods among her fairy friends and her precious flowers.

Pearl is sitting on her favorite wooden stool and just finished potting a new flower in a terracotta pot.

Pearl and her friends, Shasta and Gwendolyn, have several flowers to re-pot today. Pearl doesn't mind. She's as happy as can be. She's working with her flowers. She's out enjoying the woods and nature. She's waiting for her friends. What could be better than that?

Shasta is a gifted flower fairy who has an amazing green thumb. There isn't anything she can't grown or mend. If there's a sick flower or plant that needs tending Shasta is the flower fairy to see. She always knows that to do. A flower fairy with an extraordinary gift of healing.

Shasta is sitting on her favorite wooden stool and she just finished potting a new flower in a terracotta pot.

Shasta and her friends, Pearl and Gwendolyn, have several flowers to re-pot today. Shasta figured she'd get a head start by re-potting a few before she left to meet her friends. It was a before day for re-potting. A beautiful day for healing. Especially when you're an extraordinary flower fairy with an amazing green thumb.

Gwendolyn, like her friends Pearl and Shasta, loves flowers. However, she isn't as optimistic as her friend Pearl and certainly not as gifted with an extraordinary green thumb like Shasta when it comes to her flowers and gardens. She loves flowers and loves gardening but is all thumbs. Nothing turns out like it should. She buys flowers to plant and then she can't remember what she did with them.

Gwendolyn is sitting on her favorite wooden stool and she just finished potting a new flower in a terracotta pot.

Gwendolyn and her friends, Pearl and Shasta, have several flowers to re-pot today. Gwendolyn isn't sure what she did with the rest of the flowers that need to be re-potted. She knows she has them, but can't put her finger on them. Perhaps her problem isn't at she's all thumbs when it comes to plants. Perhaps it's because she let's her mind wander. What do you think?

Three flower fairies who are the best of friends despite their differences.  They love spending time together and what could be better than that?

Kahotan sneaks a Hachikuji preview into a random blog

Recently, on September 6th Kahotan blogged about a lot of seemingly random stuff such as how GSC is decorating for Halloween already to details about the 2013 International Manga fair, such as what drinks GSC will be selling there and some of the figurines, including Madoka Maiko version. She even talked a little bit about her desire to go to some screenings of Card Captor Sakura and Magic Knight Rayearth.

At the very end of her blog though she teased two color photos of Mayoi Hachikuji's Nendoroid. I myself am kind of new to the Monogatari scene, but I think that Mayoi is the cutest of the bunch of girls. I have always had a weakness for twin tailed girls so even more of them made into Nendoroid form can't be a bad thing right?

Hideo Kojima says I'll be ashamed for response to Quiet

Last week, Hideo Kojima let the world in on his design process behind the character, Quiet, for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V. I wasn't exactly thrilled with his reasoning behind making the character "more erotic" and Kojima had others share similar sentiments with him. He's taken back to Twitter to respond with a message for all of the critics.

"I know there's people concerning about "Quiet" but don't worry. I created her character as an antithesis to the women characters appeared in the past fighting game who are excessively exposed. "Quiet" who doesn't have a word will be teased in the story as well. But once you recognize the secret reason for her exposure, you will feel ashamed of your words & deeds."

No, Hideo you don't get the pass for that. There is no way I could ever accept that as a legitimate response. You can't say that its a response to how women have been represented before. You already told us the secret reason was to get cosplayers and sell figures. While characterization and motives are great reasons for cosplay and merch, you don't then sell it with an ass shot and eroticism. It's just out of touch to say the least. I gave the pass that this was perhaps something lost in translation, but all that today's statement made was solidify my original viewpoint.

We know sex sells. We openly buy it. You just cannot come across the way he did, then be defiant over it and claim it's about characterization. I do not feel the least bit ashamed about what I wrote.

Scary Godmother doll can make it Halloween all year round

Jill Thompson is a comic book artist who has lent her talents to such works as The Sandman and Wonder Woman. She also created an original comic series called The Scary Godmother starring a witchy godmother who is actually not all that scary but endearing nonetheless. The character is now hoping to be made into a rather impressive-looking doll (check out the gallery -- the prototype looks fabulous!), thanks to the magic of Kickstarter.

Looking at the pictures posted in page's description, you can really see the detail in every aspect of this doll. The effort that went into her clothes and accessories alone is astounding. I love her ghost cat companion, The Boozle, and the fact that it has a hook so it can be hung on a thread to simulate floating. Seriously, if any of this even remotely interests you, you owe it to yourself to at least look at the pictures of the Scary Godmother.

The campaign has 4 days left to go before it closes and, at press time, US$130,430 of 150,000 have been raised. I sincerely hope this campaign pulls through. The doll looks amazing. If you have a desire to pitch in, the The Scary Godmother doll Kickstarter can be found here.

[Thanks Vitor!]

PLAY-IMAGINATIVE-STGCC-2013-2

Seen on display at Singapore Toy Games and Comic Convention (via the Play Imaginative booth) were two 1/6th-scale products due in collaboration with IND and Danny Chan (whom I had the pleasure to meet as I was hobbling my way of of the event hall on Day 1 haha) - the first of which is OLD MASTER Q - in two editions (and not interchangeable clothes as I had first expected) - both celebrating the 50th anniversary of "老夫子"!

PLAY-IMAGINATIVE-STGCC-2013-3

I am frankly extremely excited about this figure, as it brings me back to the days of youth, when I devoured the comic digests, and as well I was a huge fan of their "Legend of the Water Margin" ("水虎傳") adaptation, so the kung-fu tunic garb is a MUST for me hahahaha

Kudos for P.I. for helping bring back a slice of nostalgia for me, personally. No product or availability info as yet tho :p

Another item of interest, was the debut display of the blonde-haired "Shi Hei Long" from infamous manhua "Tiger Dragon Gate" (aka 龍虎門)! Seen with an interchangeable head, depicting it's comicbook caricature design, Danny also mentioned that his two other compatriots will be included!

PLAY-IMAGINATIVE-NEW-52-STGCC-SUPERMAN

Seen on display at Play Imaginative's booth at Singapore Toy Games and Comic Convention were prototypes of upcoming Super Alloy 1/6 scale articulated action figures from DC Comics' The New 52 Justice League, with folks having the chance to check out the 5 characters, featuring Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, The Flash and Cyborg (no "Wonder Woman" tho) - all based on jim lee's redesign for the comicbooks.

Looking much more impressive than online images I have posted about, I find myself really liking this group - now seen closer - and appreciate the diversity provided, versus the purely Iron Man depicted series seen so far, IMHO.

We first saw them in person at the Media Preview for STGCC, then in full display force at Play Imaginative's booth at Singapore Toy Games and Comic Convention, featuring the Super Alloy "Hammer Drones" in 1/12 scale aka standing 6 inches tall. If you know your "Iron Man" movies, these guys made an appearance in IM2, battling both Tony "Iron Man" Stark and Jim "Warmachine" Rhodes at the fair, before whiplash arrived on the scene!

With 4 designs / colorways shown, there are currently no further product or availability details as yet, but I reckon this a nice form to adapt, and not necessarily "another' Iron Man armored variation, IMHO.

Play Imaginative @ Singapore Toy Games and Comic Convention 2013 was pretty "Iron Man"-ccentric, with multiple displays of their 1/4 and 1/12 array of Iron Man armored figures, and not forgetting their super alloy 1/6. As well a 1/1-scaled Mark 42 sat at the couch, no doubt a swell photo-op for attendees (I would've loved a snap truth be told, but I could hardly wait in queue for it haha). As well comic artist Adi Granov and DEVILROBOTS were invited guests, who were constantly besieged by fans and crowds, I could not even get a shot in LOL

The cheeky-side of me sighs a deep one, as I was not able to grab a snap with the sexy "Ironettes" hahaha

With the focus currently on licensed characters from Marvel and DC, the designer vinyl element of P.I. has but dwindled to a handful, most notably licensed characters from Disney, DC Comics, SpongeBob SquarePants, Paul Frank, Happy Tree Friends, with DEVILROBOTS' TO-FU Oyako being the sole representation of the "art toy crowd". Check out the new Panda TO-FU figure nestled at the back of the stand.

Check out my earlier individual blog-features on their Old Master Q and Shek Hei Long in 1/6, Super Alloy New 52 Justice League in 1/6, and Hammer Drones in 1/12.

Check out more images of the Play Imaginative booth via their Facebook album, and my own dedicated album :)

Sideshow's Diablo III statue features an infernal glow

Sideshow Collectibles' Diablo statue (Diablo III) glows with the power of evil. This 20-inch tall polystone statue features a light-up function in its upper torso and head. Evil has rarely looked so cool.

While the standard sculpting is cool, Diablo really shines when the light-up function is in use (pun intended). The glow gives the statue a far more sinister look befitting the Prime Evil.

Sideshow Collectibles' Diablo statue can pre-ordered for the totally evil price of US$350 and is slated for November release. The statue is limited to a 2,000 piece run.
