Design Festa 60: New sculpts and new figure makers
Design Festa 60 was this past weekend, and Kaiju Korner was in attendance to get some photos and info for his blog. Yes, that is a frog in a mech; why do you ask? It's from a new-ish figure maker by the name of Painter-Net who had other aquatic figures on display, and the resin frog mech does indeed have joints. We also got a peek at some of my favorite sofubi pieces at the moment — Chima Group's dinosaurs — along with a new piece from Blobpus' Alice in Wonderland line, Gothic Jackalope.
Speaking of Alice, there were some Alice-themed figures from Kaijin as well. Pico Pico debuted a new sculpt named Fando, Uky Daydreamer showed off a new figure as well, and Max Toy Co. had some new mini-figures based off Negora and friends, along with flocked Kaiju Negora one-offs.
For the full rundown from Design Festa 60, be absolutely sure to go to Kaiju Korner. Andy has much more in his round-up, including figures from Dream Rockets, Kikkake, Marmit, Monster Factory, Nakayoshi, Rampage Toys and Fig Lab, Refreshment, Sunguts, TOUMA, and Yamomark. Also, be sure not to look at A.K. Production's gory figures if you've eaten anything in the last week. Yikes ...

Ian Ziobrowski, Sekure D tackle the world of Mario
Ian Ziobrowski and Sekure D have put together a series of blind-box Munnys and Dunnys featuring the most famous of the Mario brothers: Mario, Luigi and Wario. Sadly, Waluigi gets no love this time. According to Sekure D, he's used his "Codename: Unkown" style on the Munnys, each featuring one of the three characters and reminding me a bit of the Ultimate Warrior with their faces.
Meanwhile, Ian tackled the Dunnys and has apparently given them a partial Nugglife makeover. Yes, Mario's got himself a special mushroom, Luigi's lighting up and Wario is making a fortune off of it all. I love the Wario, though; just the expression Ian's got on his face is so predictably Wario.
All of these guys will be in Ian's shop, located on his website, starting Wednesday, Nov. 14, at noon Eastern (9 a.m. Pacific, 5 p.m GMT) for US$100 each. It's the first — but not the last — collaboration between the two artists, so we'll have to see what they've got up their sleeves next!

Enormous Mizuho Kazami separates the fans from the weak
Onegai Teacher's Mizuho Kazami has always held a spot in my heart, as both the show and some of her early figures were some of the first additions to my anime and PVC collections. Not to mention, I've totally got a thing for pink hair! It's always nice to see an old classic getting revisited, or so I'd like to think. This gigantic 1/2.5 scale polyresin figure from A+ might have me rethinking that mantra, though.
I admit, I'm a big enough perv to rather enjoy the less than modest getup she's got on. Plus, as you can probably guess from the fact her clothing is actual fabric, she's quite castoffable from head to toe. I could give or take her facial details, as well, perhaps just slightly falling victim to the resin curse of oddly designed characters.
What's the turn off, then? As I'm sure you can tell, it'd definitely be those proportions. Mizuho's never been the most petite of characters, but this? I feel like I'm purchasing a figure from Queen's Blade or Eiken, not my dear Mizuho. Whether she's right up your alley or not, be ready to fork over ¥33,800 to pick her up just in time for her December release. How's that for a stocking stuffer?

DesignerCon 2012: Yetis & Friends
Prior to DesignerCon, my knowledge of Yetis & Friends' work was limited to what was available on their Etsy shop. I think their most iconic toys are their yeti plush trophies, which, as one might expect, are plush heads of cute yeti monsters that you can mount on your wall. It sure beats a stuffed fish, right?
Upon visiting the group's DCon booth, I learned Yetis & Friends is also in the webisode producing business. Their show, Shark Bites, utilizes impressive-looking puppets that play on the fact that are toys (as opposed to The Muppets, which takes great effort to hide their characters' seams and the like). The web show's episodes are expanded through comics, allowing the characters and their world to reach fans in two different mediums. Here's hoping plushes are next on the list. I wouldn't mind a Spielberg the shark of my very own.
Check out photos of the rest of the booth in the gallery!
