logoHappy Memorial Day everyone. I hope you are having a nice long weekend while keeping in mind the sacrifice of those that served our country and gave us our freedoms. We’re back with another Monday and an all new episode. We get a little philosophical about “back in our day” in this episode and do [...]

It's been a good long while since we've seen ThreeA Toys' Metal Gear RAY, but new photos of the prototype have popped up on — where else? — Hideo Kojima's Twitter. The images really don't show off much more than RAY itself, which we've seen before. Still, it's nice to see that the prototype is still around and just as massive as ever. (The guy posed with RAY is Yoji Shinkawa, the designer of RAY and artist for the Metal Gear and Zone of the Enders series.)

We still don't have info on when to expect Metal Gear RAY, but I'm sure more news will come a little later this year. It did take a while for REX to come out, after all.

Bash Projects has been pretty busy, between launching a new site and working on some customs. A couple of the customs he passed along to us got stuck in our trusty Tomopop e-mail system, but we've fished them out and decided to round them up because they're pretty cool. They're also all quite a bit different:

    • First, there's Bash's custom Raaar! for the upcoming Clutter Gallery show this summer. Named Patrick T. Rex the Third, a dino whose great-great-great-great-great grand-dad was a bit unhappy he had such tiny hands. So, through the process of evolution, Patrick ended up getting those bigger hands ... but at the cost of a much smaller body.
    • Second, the companion piece to the earlier Spawn of Satan pieces that Bash did are here. They're called the Dogfather and his Reject Angel, and they're also custom Muttpop figures. Representing the opposing force to the Spawn of Satan and his minions, these two headed down to Earth to find the demons and give them a battle they wouldn't soon forget.
    • Finally, there's a rockin' duo by the name of Fred and Ginger. By rockin', I more or less mean Fred's a huge rock'n'roll fan, especially a band by the name of BA/SH. So when Ginger decided to surprise Fred with tickets to a show featuring his favorite band, he got a little excited and apparently forgot to put his shirt back on, revealing that he's got a huge BA/SH tattoo on the back of his shirt. Gnomes don't usually have tattoos, do they?

The latter two of these three are pieces done on commission, and you can always check out Bash's website linked above for info on commissions and more.

Welcome to the May edition of Reactor-88's Custom Corner. This month we're highlighting Hugh Rose, who resides on the small island of Guernsey. Tres invite back

Launching Wednesday May 29th at Vinyl On Vinyl is "Dream Machine", featuring works of Edwin Tres Reyes (Blog) who parallels his canvas artwork with "identical" resin sculpts in 3-dimension. Interesting… Hrre is the press for his solo show, which exhibits thru June 8th, 2013:
PRESS: "“Dream Machine” is more than a visual art exhibition. At its conceptual core, it seeks to capture the zeitgeist of an age where stories were told in their purest form-as the product of dreams. Utilizing a distinct technique, Tres Reyes creates canvas works that also find their volumetric form in identical resin sculptures. These are considered one works, symbolic of the process by which an individual dream becomes a collective reality."

Kidrobot has released further details of their upcoming "Dunny Series 2013" [designs previously "leaked" HERE] - whereby the theme of the series is "side show" ala "carnival" styled fun, which features 20 designs by 14 artists. Scheduled for a June 14th release, full cases will also receive a case exclusive Dunny. Check in with your fav retailers for dibs, folks!
PRESS: "Dunny series 2013 invites you to tour the tent, point & wonder, and behold a collection of freaks for the geek you didn’t know you were. Artists from off the beaten path and the road less travelled lure you to embrace the strange and scary. Featuring 20 designs across 14 artists, each artist applies his or her custom style to bring fantastic, eccentric and sometimes downright frightening designs to homes and shelves throughout the world." (read more here)

Swiped from Outland Toys' FB are these images inclusive of a group line-up with ratios underneath them, and a closer look at a Julie West Dunny! I am grateful there is a "theme" attached, otherwise it would simply be just a selection of random Dunny designs … which frankly works much better than having a "theme", which seem d both obligatory and irrelevant to the designs, IMHO. Nevertheless, most of the designs look like winners, IMHO, and I cross my fingers being able to snag some of my favs, including DGPH's, Andrew Bell's, Scribe's, Scott Tolleson's, and Jon-Paul Kaiser's - who btw is set to be released also as a larger Dunny! WHOOP!

Martin Hsu was down a live painting event at Kidrobot SF for MUNNY MUNTH on Saturday, and shares pics with us at the show, where he customized an 8" Munny titled "SF Munny King"! "He's basically an urban Monkey King with bike messenger in his blood and SF in his heart!"

"With assistance from my buddy Debbie, we painted with kids, talked about Dragon Boy, and basically had a great time! The mom of 2 of the kids ended up buying the custom on the spot! They were visiting from Chicago and thought this piece would complete their trip. Amazing!

Korena, the store manager from Kidrobot SF hand sewed a Chrome messenger bag for the Munny. It was truly a team effort!"
~added Martin (Check out more images here) on his Facebook).

I really like how "Munny King" turned out! Looking like it literally stepped off a Martin-Hsu painting, it showcases Martin's character design aesthetics and charm, IMHO. The "SF" insignia on the golden crown is a nice touch too. As a side note, for anyone who's interested in the Dragon Boy OG colorway (seen standing next to Munny King in the pic above), folks can email Martin at to be put on a reminder list. Official online release end of June!

From playing cowboys and Indians to water pistols, children seem to naturally gravitate to ‘playing war’, but is it behaviour that should be discouraged? Does it encourage violence and glorify war? These are the big questions with which this exhibition opens, before running through a history of war toys from cut-out soldiers during the Boer War to a copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It’s a ...

  • 05/28/13--06:00: Spare Tire Panda by Cacooca

  • Okay, so this is pretty adorable: SPARE TIRE PANDA from Cacooca - in reference to the small yellow duck swim "inflatable" ring around the Panda's belly (which in real-Singapore-life, we call the excess fats "spare tires" instead of "love handles" lol) - currently available for orders via or purchase directly via (in Mandarin/Chinese text tho). Email or contact him on Facebook for further purchase details.

The bigger panda stands 135mm and is priced at US$259 (9pcs only) while the smaller Panda (with the charming squiddy-hat) is priced at US$146 (61pcs) and stands 105mm. Both are made in resin.

"…all the processes are done by hand, personally (by myself), big head and small head were limited to nine and 61, for the summer, but also (for) Children's Day. You want to get a friend to get back the feeling of childhood." ~added Cacooca.
