Positive Customer Review of SimCity

If you haven’t heard anything on the new embarrassingly atrocious SimCity video game, or if you’ve been living under a rock with no Wifi for the last couple of weeks, let’s catch up to speed.

EA Games released MaxisSimCity weeks ago. People bought it. A lot of people couldn’t play it. The game has to run online and always needs Internet to play since it runs cloud-based, but the thing is, EA’s servers can’t handle that. The servers aren’t fit for its players, thus, a huge chunk of folks who bought the game can’t even play it. EA tried saying sorry by giving out free games, but I don’t think anyone cares.

Amazon user reviews on the title include 2,000+ negative one-star and two-star reviews. Amazon decided to take the download down in case anyone would purchase the item through them, due to so many user complaints.

But, if you can filter through some of the five-star game reviews Amazon users have to offer, you can find some really positive words to say about EA’s diaster of a video game, Sim City.

This is one of the most positive five-star reviews on Amazon right now toward the game, written by user plantos500:

You’d think I’d be mega unhappy like everyone else at the constant waiting and lack of actually being able to play a game I purchased.

Well, you’d be wrong.

The hours upon hours since launch that I haven’t been able to log in, whether it be sitting in queues, or server busy messages, or just plain old not working screens, I’ve managed to do a heap of things that I never do when I’m locked in my man cave playing video games.

I’ve washed the dishes, the laundry, changed the oil in the car, mopped the floors, dusted, did a spot of gardening, greeted my children who I hadn’t really seen since Christmas, walked the dog, asked how my wife’s day has been and listened to the entire response, restocked the groceries and many more things! My family has never been happier that they’ve got a father and husband again.

In fact, I feel like Simcity has given me a new lease on life. This wouldn’t have been possible without the seemingly crazy decision to have constant online connections and server side save points even for single player.

So I can only thank EA and Maxis. Your failures have been my rewards. 5 stars!

Dull Dad’s life has been changed forever, thanks to SimCity. Dull Dad is now deemed “Cool Dad,” after writing this user review, and we’re all happy for him and his life altering decision to purchase, and attempt to play, SimCity on his PC.

We hope that EA Games sees this post and is overcome with a sense of happiness, knowing that their product actually worked in making at least one person content.

Disney's Oz the Great and Powerful Dolls

Now that the movie has opened, there is a lot of interest in the dolls from the Disney movie Oz the Great and Powerful.
Don't even think about buying these on eBay unless the shipping is free and the basic prices are as I have listed below. The prices are all over the map. There is a 19" resin (polyester) China Doll who is a limited edition of 500 that is being sold for extraordinarily high prices- averaging about $500 more or less.
She was my favorite character but not that favorite.

All four witch dolls and Oz holding the tiny China Doll are $19.99 each on Amazon and at Toys-R-Us. Free shipping included. The 14" China Doll is $21.99. There is also a 4" China Girl listed at $18.47.
I do not see the 4" at Toys R Us, however.
I have admired these dolls since I first saw them and I am ordering them just for fun. (aka lack of impulse control)
They are articulated and I'm hoping the fashions are not sewn on.
BTW, Theodora's fashion in the movie was to-die-for. Her pants were leather and super tight. Mila Kunis is a stunning woman. The movie was sort of fun but don't expect fine acting. Watch the original Oz if you want a truly great movie.

Jan Jinda’s Nerdy Astronaut

This is a 3D piece by artist Jan Jinda, asking will this dull geek “be next?” The suit is built from the nerd’s own homemade equipment, while Jinda used ZBrush and Photoshop to create the space-man himself. I really dig the detail in the background of the design, showcasing various space-related objects and posters.

Forgotten Freshness: You Can’t Do That On Television Man,...

Forgotten Freshness: You Can’t Do That On Television

Man, how the times have changed. Back in the 80’s, it was totally okay to have children’s sketch comedy show where families were so poor that their children got repossessed, it was okay for middle-aged man dressed as a scuba diver to share a bathtub with an underage girl, and there was even a recurring sketch about children being sentenced to death by firing squad.

You Can’t Do That On Television: Poverty & Unemployment Pt.1

Originally a low budget children’s sketch comedy show in 1979 for local Ottowa, Canada station CJOH-TV, You Can’t Do That On Television was picked up by Nickelodeon in 1981. Each episode’s sketches always centered around a main theme and the show is most known for its “slime” gag where green slime fell from the sky onto the actors’ heads every time they said “I don’t know.” To this day, green slime is a staple of Nickelodeon’s brand identity. In addition to the slime if any of the actors said “water,” water would fall on them.

You Can’t Do That On Television: Poverty & Unemployment Pt. 2

YCDTOTV was definitely a pretty edgy show, even by today’s standards. Episode themes centered around things like poverty, fashion, and the future, but some episodes were banned. An episode about adoption was banned in the U.S. and Canada and an episode about divorce was banned in Canada.

Once Nickelodeon picked up the show and tried aiming it toward a younger demographic, it kind of started going downhill. While originally made for teens and pre-teens, episodes about things like sexual equality, peer pressure, and drugs were replaced by more kiddy-ish potty humor.

The show lasted until 1990 and reruns were aired until 1994. In 2004, there was a reunion special called Project 131 and you can watch the whole thing on YouTube.

You Can’t Do That On Television: Poverty & Unemployment Pt. 3

Watching these old episodes, it’s definitely hard to imagine this sort of thing flying on TV today. As much as people complain that TV is too violent or oversexualized, I think they tend to forget how things used to be. Not saying anything was wrong with the good old days of children’s entertainment, though. If anything, this show deserves respect for not talking down to kids and talking about real issues.

And, come on, could you even imagine how if there was a children’s program where kids were being shot by a firing squad this day and age? Uptight parents would have a fit!

Maybe that’s the main divide between kids and grown-ups. Kids have the ability to see the humor in everything while grown-ups tend to take everything way too seriously.

Trivia:

  • Canadian singer Allanis Morrisette was on the show when she was just 5 years old in 1979 and was on again in 1986 for an episode about pop music. Dave Coulier was also working for Nickelodeon around this time on the show Out Of Control. Alanis Morisette’s song You Oughta Know is about Dave Coulier!!! Coincidence?
  • The show’s opening animation, The Children’s Television Sausage Factor was inspired by Terry Gilliam’s “gilliamations.” That’s the same Terry Gilliam from Monty Python’s Flying Circus. He also directed some movies you’ve probably heard of like 12 Monkeys, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

Germany-artist dust (www.dirtydust.de) starts off a new series of "RAS2013" customs utilizing his own RAS 3 inch figure, with this "69. Ground Defence Squad" featuring a thematic base, with which all figures are removable from.
"The whole custom is based on the story of the RAS, the scene which is shown happened during the "Fight For Freedom" campaign in the year 2055 … the squad you see on the diorama are regular foot troops from the rebels. the RAS and his driver is from 69. Ground Defence Squad." ~added dust.

I love this. I am a diorama-nut and this scene really hits the sweet spot for me. The nonchalant reloading/maintenance of the mecha gives it quite a dreaded life of it's own … what you folks need to do, is to head on over to THIS Facebook album to see the entire series of images!

Battle-Star-Astronauts-by-Bashprojects

Bashprojects.com shares with us a trio of his latest customs, and they are pretty darn adorable! Made from Huck Gee's Mecha Dunnys (from his recently released 'Post-Apocalypse' series) - "Mike" and "Charlie" have since already been spoken for but "Lima" is "still available" (although I can't seem to find the listing in his store…). Nevertheless, here's the story of "Battle Star Astronauts":
"Battle Star Astronauts are the toughest and baddest mother fuckers in the universe. If there is trouble somewhere in the universe that no one can fix... call the Battle Star Astronauts!

Mike is from the planet Freesnutsoff. The planet is so cold that everything on that planet is ice-cold blue. Mike once destroyed half the planet after he had his balls frozen to the ground. He had to break them loose with his bare hands, almost taking apart the entire planet.

Lima is from the planet Gigantula. He is one of the smallest creatures from that planet but he is so bad-ass that he was born with just one eye... He didn't need a second one!

Charlie is the leader of the group and comes from the planet Fluffyhappyland. He lost his left eye during an epic pin-pong match…"
