  • 01/22/12--16:41: Major Mattel Missive
  • Scott Neitlich has posted a very long and–credit where it’s due–thorough explanatory post up about all the recent issues surrounding Masters of the Universe Classics. It does wrap up with a little of the “we should be thankful we have figures at all” attitude that really rubs many the wrong way, but overall I think [...]

Background Sideshow Collectibles has been working with Hasbro to produce a high-end 1/6th scale line since 2008. They are based on the 1980's 3 3/4” action figures and not on the live-action films. They've given collectors most of the main characters, although some of the big names have yet to be announced. One of the [...]

  • The name Gungnir comes from Norse myths, as this was the name of Odin’s spear, reputed to never miss a mark. In the Halo universe, Project Gungnir was responsible of developing the Spartan Laser weapon as well as additional gear to be used in conjunction with the Spartan Mjölnir armor.

I had asked for submissions of Dragon drawings and images (like I did for the Year of The Rabbit last year), and folks on my Facebook came thru with a swell selection of fire-breathers and winged fantasy creatures! And here are your auspicious dragons for the first day of Chinese Lunar New Year! And if you like the artwork shown, do click on to the artists' links, to see more of their work!

  • 01/22/12--16:41: CJ Night Taiwan 2012 Winter

  • Was in Taiwan for a wee bit last week. T'was our first time over there and had a great time. I always knew that anime culture was a big thing in Taiwan but didn't know how big it was until I saw it with my own optical eyes. What I also didn't know was how many readers I had in Taiwan. I thought that maybe a handful of readers may come along to Culture Japan Night and was surprised that 110 people signed up!

The first photo taken on 2012/1/14 with folks who stayed until the end - I'll take the group photos at the beginning next time!

CJ Night Taiwan was held at the Good Smile Tetsujin Cafe which recently opened right outside Taipei station where there are a load of other Japanese stores. This time round the cafe had a Mado Magi theme. Inside the cafe are a load of figures on display and they were also on sale too.

How many of you can read this sign?
There is a poll embedded in this article.

Some of these photos taken from Angus and Sanyu.
More coverage of the event below.

We only had one video and audio output which we used to show Culture Japan season 2 so didn't get a chance to indulge in some Street Fighter shenanigans like last time in Singapore. However we did get round to do dolly play and a load of folks brought along their lovely daughters.

Thanks again to everybody who came and please forgive me for keeping you waiting as I wanted to get a chance to speak to everybody. Look forward to seeing you again at CJ Night Taiwan 2012 Summer and at the official Culture Japan booth at Fancy Frontier this July!

Other CJ Night event coverage listed up below.

How many of you have been to a CJ Night and which one did you attend?
There is a poll embedded in this article.

[NSFW] Kurushima's Mie is way, way too relaxed screenshot

2012 has gotten off to a pretty good start, but you know what we're missing? If you said "ridiculous NSFW figures," then you're right and you're also cheating, so shame on you. But yes, from Kurushima Seisakusho, we have the Privaye Beach 3 Mie coldcast figure, at 1/6 scale and posed in ... well, it's ridiculous. I mean, look at her. She looks less like she's relaxing and more like she's trying to stretch out before exercise. Yes, she's cast-off, too, but when my first reaction to your figure is to laugh ... not good.

She's ¥15,200, comes out in late May and is not something I could ever possibly have in my collection. She's just too ridiculously posed and the whole castoff thing ... pass. Is she as ridiculous looking to you?

Yes, THE ACROPOLIS … So, yes, Greek government misfortune is good for you. It is missing the roof (yea, blame the Venetians!) but if you’re deciding between here or the Rotarian Hall, I vote here! Martin Hsu's Dragon Boy prototype revealed screenshot

Last weekend, Martin Hsu's solo show Dragon Boy opened at Dragatomi, and as part of the event, the prototype for his Dragon Boy figure was revealed! Sculpted by Vin Teng, Dragon Boy is based off of Martin's character, and even in his unpainted prototype form, he's looking incredible! The side-by-side comparison to the original illustration really shows how much detail was preserved and carried over into the vinyl figure.

Now, beyond the reveal of the sculpt, we don't have much info other than to say it's on track to be released at San Diego Comic Con in July. It's definitely a figure to keep an eye on, and be sure to check out the paintings from the show as well!
