Iron Man 3 Assemblers figures up for pre-order

Iron Man 3 Assemblers figures up for pre-order screenshot

Iron Man 3 Assemblers figures have started to show up for pre-order. When the line was recently announced, we weren't sure what to expect based on the limited photos available. Since then, better images and information emerged that confirmed it was basically a line geared at children rather than collectors.

There's been something of a downward trend in the quality of 3.75-inch movie tie-in lines where the general toymaker sensibility has returned from making products with a broad appeal to "cheaper" items more specifically targeted towards very young children. These Assemblers figures only seem to feature five points of articulation (much like Mattel's The Dark Knight Rises 3.75-inch line), all of which only seem to only offer rotation. The arms (and possibly the legs?) are removable and can exchanged for those of other characters in the line. Then there are armor bits that can snap on top of the mold.

While these figures are disappointing, on the plus side it means that I have fewer line to collect. However, I'm just surprised that to see Hasbro go from their wonderful Iron Man 2 line to something cheaper than their Iron Man: Armored Adventures line. Of course, the real kicker is the US$10 MSRP which is also the current price point for the far better Marvel Universe line. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if this line actually proved successful within its target demographic given those interchangeable parts.

I was always one to marvel at the age of things – the dinosaur fossils that they store in the museum, the mammoth skeletons that they store in the museum, and the fossils of your gramma that they store in the museum have all been awe-inspiring to me.  (OOOHHHH YOU JUST GOT SERVED SOME ETHNIC DISH THAT WAS SO SPICY YOU COULDN’T EVEN EAT IT).     The point is that I can blast my EDM out of a piece of wood ...

Kotobukiya's Asuka looking lovely in these scans screenshot

This month's batch of scans has given us a little something fun to look at: the first color images of Kotobukiya's upcoming Asuka figure from the Evangelion films. While their past Asuka really haven't set my world on fire, the new one has a much sterner look, posed upon the EVA unit gargoyle like Kaworu was. Looking good so far!

Koto's new Asuka comes in June for a price to be announced. I've liked their past Evangelion pieces in this line, and Asuka seems to be another good one. What do you think?

S.H. Figuarts Frieza will murder you screenshot

After so many shows, you would think it'd finally be released? After being confirmed in this month's hobby scans, S.H. Figuarts Frieza will be arriving this June and now we have the photos to show off what you'll be getting. With what I'm seeing from the release, it's going to be an easy sell.

As for what you'll be getting, it's Frieza in his Final Form, just not the 100% Roids power version. Included are three heads, crossed arms, 4 hand sets, effect part for the Death Ball, two tails, and a stand. The stand and the additional tail will seem familar to DBZ fans as it depicts the scene that Frieza kills Krillin. I'm looking forward to this release if just for that.

While SHF Frieza will be available through the Premium Bandai Shop, he will be arriving at U.S. outlets via Bluefin. As it currently stands, he's scheduled for release at the end of June/start of July so he should be ready for San Diego Comic-Con in July. No price is given as of yet, but I'd expect somewhere in the $45-55 range.

Yamato's Elin gets a release date and price screenshot

While we have seen TERA's Elin before as a Cerberus Project garage kit and later as an announced PVC figure by Yamato, the details on her release date and price have been ... missing, for lack of a better word. In fact, so much so, that I almost forgot about her existence until the latest scans came out and gave us the final pieces of info.

Elin is releasing in May and her price is ¥13,340. Not cheap by any measurement, but perhaps easier to deal with than hunting down a kit yourself. Anyone excited about this news?

Scan the details of S.H.F. Iron Man Mk VI and War Machine

Scan the details of S.H.F. Iron Man Mk VI and War Machine screenshot

There have been a LOT of Iron Man figures. We've seen Hasbro's effort, we've seen Kaiyodo's Revoltech versions, and now we get to see what Bandai has up their sleeve with their renditions in the S.H. Figuarts lineup. At the first glance here, this is the figure we've wanted all along.

Even though Iron Man 3 is ready to hit theatres this May with a slew of new armors, Bandai is going with the designs from the sequel. That being said, outside of Hot Toys, this is the best rendition that I've seen of the two. They are loaded with effect parts, both for their individual weapons as well as leg thrusters.  I love the details that have been put in, especially the flaps on the back that open up on Iron Man. The only thing that disappoints me on these is the fact these designs are now three years old and the new movie will be out before these are.

The other disappointing point of these figures is the price. They are both scheduled for release in May with a price tag of 4,725¥  for Iron Man MkVI and 5,250¥  for War Machine. With that price tag, you could argue that the Hasbro 6" are better for the collection, but I think I will easily give those up for a chance at these.
