DCC's 3.75-inch Injustice 2-packs up for pre-order

DCC's 3.75-inch Injustice 2-packs up for pre-order screenshot

(The two sets may not be shown to scale)

The first of DC Collectibles' 3.75-inch Injustice: Gods Among Us 2-packs are now available for pre-order. While the Green Arrow & Deathstroke pack were shown earlier this week, this is our first glimpse at Wonder Woman and Solomon Grundy.

Some months ago, DC Collectibles entered the 3.75-inch scale with a convention-exclusive  Green Lantern line. The natural reaction (once fans got past the obvious excitement) was bewilderment. Why wasn't DC Collectibles releasing these 3.75-inch figures on a wider scale? Recently fans seemed to have received their wish with an announcement that DCC would be doing a line of 3.75-inch figures based on the character designs from the upcoming video game, Injustice: Gods Among Us, and initial offering was shown to be Green Arrow & Deathstroke.

I wasn't overly impressed when I first saw the Green Arrow / Deathstroke pack, but my opinion of them has improved slightly as I've acclimated to the design. That said, it's still very unlikely that I'll consider buying that one. The matter is a little different for the Grundy and Wonder Woman pack. Solomon Grundy (a semi-popular villainous zombie) is a character that isn't often seen in the 3.75-inch scale and fittingly seems to tower over the other characters. While Grundy is a character that I've long-wanted on the 3.75-inch scale, I can't wows me like I had been expecting. Grundy seems to have a great head-sculpt with everything else (body sculpt, paint, etc) being okay at best. I'm also a little concerned that he may lack foot articulation although I hope that isn't be the case.

Equally mixed are my feelings about Wonder Woman. I find the facial expression to be somewhat iffy but my larger issue is how greatly the design resembles Hasbro's largely abandoned female Marvel Universe mold. That was largely one of the issues with Mattel's previous 3.75-inch Infinite Heroes line where Mattel always felt at least one step behind Hasbro. Otherwise, Wonder Woman is still a decent enough figure.

These 2-packs have a US$30 list price which, once again, I find to be a little awkward. I previously compared this pricing to that of Hasbro's Marvel Universe line. However, a far better comparison might be to DC Collectibles' Green Lantern 2-packs which, as con exclusives, should have an even smaller run yet only have a list price of US$25. Subsequently it's a little odd that this presumably wider release would entail a 20% rate increase but one could argue that the Injustice figures probably use more unique parts or something. Plus BBTS has them for a little under the list price anyway.

At any rate, I'll probably end up pre-ordering the Wonder Woman / Grundy pack (why couldn't Grundy have been paired with Deathstroke? =x I'm guessing the rest of the line will be hero paired with villain as part of a "versus" theme). I still somewhat question the value but it could be much worse. At any rate, I'm just wondering who we might see next. Cyborg? Nightwing? Harley Quinn? Or will they finally jump to Batman or Superman?

Culture Japan Apparel

To let you know that our new Culture Japan Apparel line is starting to ramp up. The line will focus on clothing and accessories branded with our own characters (Mirai Suenaga and co) but I may do some other licensed characters from anime and eroge titles working directly with some of my clients.

We are starting out with mainly color T-shirts but other lines such as the hoodies are just around the corner.
While most other anime licensed T-shirts usually retail at 3,000 yen - 6,000 yen (just like these and these), we are making efforts to streamline as many processes as possible and build relationships with folks in the various supply chains which will enable us to reduce costs - this enables us to competitively price our products and give back savings to the consumer.

The first line of Moekana T-shirts went on sale at Anime Festival Asia 2012 Singapore and the response was overwhelming! The Moekana T-shirts will be on sale next with an additional 2 designs at Comic Fiesta Malaysia on December 22nd - 23rd.

We are learning a load of new stuff with this new venture including manufacturing processes, pricing, tax policies, distribution and more. Next we need fo figure out how to distribute on a global level while maintaining scalability of the business.

After Malaysia, we head to the Thailand Game Show where I will be speaking and also have a booth where we will be selling our T-shirts.

A Moekana T-shirt is the easiest way to cosplay as Mirai Suenaga!

Our Eiji Seiun in his Moekana Cheerleader T-shirt. Yes I want to make some of those Retrokyu keyrings - but the easiest way to get one is probabbly by sticking a chain in the one that comes with the Mirai Nendoroid.

And here is the actual Moekana T-shirt. I kinda like the tight V-shaped fit which is why they are cut like so. But for folks who dont want to show their B or B (Bewbs or Belly) can go for the larger sizes ^^;

Apart from our own character branded T-shirts, what other anime or eroge licensed apparel would you like to see?

Ikebukuro in the Winter

Back in July, I started a new photo series "In the Summer" where we took a look at what various places around Tokyo looked like during the baking hot season.
I thought It only made sense to share what its like in this freezing cold Winter season - introducing the "In the Winter" photo series! Today we take a look around the Ikebukuro area.

Ikebukuro is a lively shopping district filled with restaurants and is also home to stores like Tokyu Hands (hardware and lifestyle goods) and also otaku stores like Animate, Gamers and Toranoana.

Most of the stuff to be seen is on the East Exit side of Ikebukuro station which is on the JR Yamanote line.

It was inevitable: Vocaloid x Hello Kitty Collaboration

It was inevitable: Vocaloid x Hello Kitty Collaboration screenshot

Did you ever expect to see this NOT happen? Let's be honest with ourselves here, folks. Vocaloid will put it itself in just about anything. Everyone loves to collaborate with Hatsune Miku. The heads over at Sanrio, while not rolling around in billions of yen, will put out Hello Kitty into just about anything. Being honest here, a KISS collaboration is a million times worse than a pocket massager. Anyway, I'm just more surprised that this hasn't happened sooner, but yes, we now have an official Hatsune Miku x Hello Kitty line.

Starting off the combination of all things cute and shrieking 12 year old girls will be a line of keychains. The keychains themselves will feature Hello Kitty dressed up as the various Vocaloids including Miku, Luka, the Kagamine Twins, and a mystery Miku version. As this is the first wave, none of the other Sanrio characters have been cast into this mix of money makers. Since there's no Keroppi or Badtzmaru, no buys will be coming from my home.

They are on sale now throughout Japan, but I haven't been able to find them on the traditional assortment of retailers. They sell for ¥200 each, but I did manage to find one complete set on Amazon Japan for ¥2,980. Does this version of the cat strike your fancy or are you just Miku'd out?

New Silk Floral Arrangements For The Dining Room

$

As I'm sure you all know by now I love creating all types of  floral arrangements.   And, I especially love creating them for the Fall and Christmas holiday seasons and displaying them all over my house.

This year for the first time in many years I found the need to make a few silk floral arrangements for the dining room fireplace display. After putting the display together for my dining room fireplace I decided that It needed something. I decided my BIG Mrs. Santa and Santa dolls needed some colorful poinsettia's at their feet.

I thought I had some, but after looking for them I found out I didn't. So, of course, I had to make some. Oh, what a shame! I had to create poinsettia floral arrangements. How awful was that? Of course, I was in floral designing heaven.

So, off to Michael's I went with my coupon to buy silk floral poinsettia stems at 50%. After looking at everything they had I decided to create 4 arrangements. One tall one in a Santa suit container and three small ones in red and green "Joy" containers.

I decided the tall floral arrangement should be made out of evergreen sprigs which I had already decided would be a good compliment for some white Christmas rose stems I already had. Put together in the Santa suit container these would look great behind my BIG bear and next to my North Pole lighted sign.  My arrangement is shown in the picture above.

I had bought two red containers and one green container all three of which said "Joy." I love buying Christmas decorations with the words "Joy" as a private tribute to my Mom so when I spotted the "Joy" containers I knew I had to buy them. I had also bought several large white poinsettia sprigs, several glittery red poinsettia sprigs, and several plain red poinsettia sprigs.

For the white poinsettia arrangement I added complimentary gold sprayed and glittery ferns as well as several red poinsettia sprigs to create fill. I was pleased with the way the white poinsettia arrangement came out and it is shown in the picture above.

For the two red "Joy" containers I decided to add red poinsettia springs. One arrangement would be solid red poinsettia's and one would be red glittery poinsettias. I added some multi-colored green holiday silk eucalyptus sprigs as filler. The solid red arrangement is shown in the picture above and the glittery red arrangement is shown in the picture below.

I was pleased with the way all four of the arrangements came out and think they compliment the large red, white, green, and gold floral arrangement I had made years below and which is the focal point for the fireplace. That arrangement is shown in the picture below.

All in all I was pleased with the way the display and my newly created poinsettia and evergreen arrangements turned out.

It's such a shame I had to create some new floral arrangements..........
