Mew-Genics is back in development
A video game about cats by Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac designer Edmund McMillen is something I have wanted and continue to want to this day. That title, Mew-Genics, never came out -- but it could still! In a general Q&A post for the new year, McMillen re-sparked fans' hope.
"welllll Tyler and I are currently prototyping some stuff for it and if all goes well I’m 99% sure that little monster will once again become my obsession. Mewgenics was always my oddball dream project and probably the game I’m questioned about the most these days. Mewgenics is being remade from the ground up so don’t expect to see much for a year or two.

While it's still far off even if everything goes to plan, I'm feeling more hopeful than before.
In the mean time, McMillen is finishing up the puzzle RPG The Legend of Bum-bo, which he confirmed will release on Nintendo Switch, iOS, and PC this year. There should be plenty to keep us occupied.

Zeta Toys ZB-01 Fly Fire Unofficial MP-Style Fireflight Gallery
It's unofficial Aerialbot season, and just in we have a nice, detailed gallery of one of Zeta Toys' offerings for their Kronos project. "Fly Fire" is their take on Fireflight, or "Firefly" as the character was officially renamed for trademark purposes during Combiner Wars. The gallery shows off the figure quite well, with quite a range of articulation to be had and some nicely crisp sculpt work. We get a look at the arm mode too, including a close up of the construction of the combiner elbow. Click through for the gallery credit and Fly Fire images!

Zeta Toys still has a bit to offer us today. Direct from their Weibo we have two images of Armageddon, their unofficial Bruticus shown as a color testshot. The individual components are all represented in their respective colors, though the add-ons for the combined form look like they may still be works in progress - at least lacking some finishing paint details if not other color changes. The images themselves say that this is not necessarily a final deco for the assembled whole, but it certainly gets the idea across! Check out both photos mirrored below.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition final balance notes released
Capcom have released the final, confirmed patch notes for the upcoming Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. The list contains all the tweaks pertaining to the game's roster, as SFV contains to shuffle itself into a balanced sweet spot.
Of no surprise to anyone, powerful dudes and dudettes such as Laura and Balrog have had their wings clipped somewhat, while those struggling in the lower ranks, such as Best Girl Juri, have been given potential boosts. As with all balance changes, this stuff should be taken with a pinch of salt (no pun intended) as the game is in the hands of the players, who sometimes rise above any handicaps placed on their Top Tier faves.
In other news, the Frame Data tester, recently leaked, has been confirmed legitimate. The useful colour-coded tool can be used in training mode to visually show advantage and disadvantage in character attacks and movement techniques such as Dashing. It will be a blessing to those who struggle with number-riddled frame charts.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition lands on PC and PS4 in North America on January 16. The PS4 physical and digital release is now delayed in Europe until January 19. But existing SFV owners will be able to download the expansion on the 16th.

Nintendo of Russia might have let it slip that there's going to be a Direct soon
You've heard the rumors. A bunch of placeholder listings just went up on Amazon, and there's been rumblings of a Nintendo Direct this month that's going to kick off the new year and bring further momentum to the Switch -- a system that just surpassed the Wii U's lifetime hardware sales in Japan in just 10 months.
We're still waiting on confirmation for that, but for now Nintendo of Russia assuaged our doubts with a quick message on the social media site VK -- Russia's near carbon-copy version of Facebook. In a post responding to a fan asking when the next Direct will come, Nintendo states, "good afternoon! Follow the news - soon expected!"
It's a small thing, but just one extra piece of evidence that points to a January Direct.
