Wonder Festival 2016 Winter: Kotobukiya Figures
Kotobukiya really decided to start off this year with a bang! Wonder Festival saw quite a few new announcement and figures from Kotobuiya and there was pretty much something for everyone, and some things which really shouldn't be for anyone!!
But I digress. First up, we'll look at the scale figures on display. There were quite a few surprises in store, not least of which was a full scale figure of Shinguji Sakura from Sakura Wars! Did I miss something? When did that series make a comeback? Elsewhere, there were some pretty cool figures of Worrick and Nicholas from Gangsta as well as an announcement of a figure of Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop!
Kotobukiya was also quick to lay claim on the first figure of Velvet from Tales of Berseria, which isn't even out yet in Japan! Makers also seem to have picked up interest in Touken Ranbu, an otome game for mobile devices by Nitroplus. The garage kit scene has picked up on it already (though not to the same level as KanColle) but expect to see a fair few more figures from the game appear elsewhere!

Wonder Festival 2016 Winter: Kotobukiya Mecha
Despite having one of the most unfortunate shorthands in the business, the Frame Arms Girls (or FA:G) seem to be doing quite a considerable amount of business for Kotobukiya, especially if the time it took for the latest releases to sell out online is anything to go by! So it may not come as much of a surprise to see more releases for the line in the future as well as more Frame Arms kits to supplement for additional parts. What may surprise some is that enormous Powered Guardian frame which houses a general FA:G release! seems it transforms and can fit all releases of the basic FA:G line thus far!
But FA:G weren't the only ones to get some love. In a blow from left field, Kotobukiya seemed to have snagged the license for Xenoblade Chronicles X and will be releasing a plastic model of one of the Skell designs from the game! We also got a kit of Mazinkaiser and zoids!
And in another surprise move, We also saw the apparent resurrection of the Busou Shinki line, with new figures of Arnval and Straf as well as a whole new line of figures called Megami Devices. Not much was shown other than the 4 prototypes but they do look more similar to Busou Shinki than Frame Arms Girls at this point. Maybe an in-between?
Well, seeing Busou Shinki back is a good thing and if you're a fan of mecha musume but like me, the FA:G line didn't quite do it for you, maybe this new Megami Devices line will! But you may want to check out some of the custom FA:G models which were on display. They were rather stunning!

Wonder Festival 2016 Winter: Kotobukiya Bushoujo
I can't say I've ever been a fan of the Kotobukiya Bishoujo line. There have been a few here and there which I thought were pretty cool but not enough to make me jump and purchase right away. And, like many others, I was completely perplexed by the release of the Bishoujo Horror line where they made gender swapped figures of Freddy and Jason... Then, over Christmas, Andres reported that Koto had announced a bishoujo Edward Scissorhands. Well, Wonder Festival gave us the original artwork which the figure will be based on as well as an announcement of... Chucky... From the Childs Play series of horror films. Chucky! The short, chubby boy doll which comes to life with the soul of a serial killer... Is now a Bishoujo...
Someone is going to need to give me something stronger than "WTF" to use to describe my feelings for this one. Heck, they even bishoujo-fied Tiffany from Bride of Chucky!!
*ahem* on the other side, we have a pretty cool looking Spider-Gwen which I can get behind, as well as announcements for wonder girl and a bishoujo Thor and Loki. Now, I remember that Thor has been a lady for a while now, but did Loki get the same treatment as well?
Anyway, if the movie bishoujo is something you can get behind, there's a fair bit for you to look forward to but for me? I'm out!
