Volks Joint Festa 2: Figures and Mecha
And I thought Treasure Festa was a little too close to Christmas... Well, Volks chose to prove me wrong as, along with Jump Festa, they also held their own event this weekend, a mere five days before we all take a few days off in the west!
Normally, this event would be called Hobby Round but they decided to combine Hobby Round with their Dollpa event so we get Joint Festa 2 (just don't ask me what happened to Joint Festa 1)!
The doll part of the event was more of a dealer and social event but the new Dollfie Dream Tohsaka Rin from Fate/Stay Night and Shijou Takane from the Idolm@ster were on sale and, if you want to try and buy one, the Volks Doll Lottery should be live now!
As for the rest of the show, Volks showed off a number of new plastic kits of mecha from the Five Star Stories, including the Auge and the Knight of Gold Lachesis. Volks also showed off some new kits of scopedogs from Votoms as well as new kits of mecha from SPT Layzner as well as Panzer World Galliant. That should please a few old school fans!
On the figure side of things, it was all Charagumin with our first good look at the new Purple Heart figure from Hyperdimension Neptunia and Niko and Maki from Love Live! As for new kits, there were new prototypes on display for Iona from Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio and Super Pochako christmas version but the biggest news for me would be the prototype best goddess Black Heart from Hyperdimension Neptunia! Definitely going to get her at some point!
What about you, readers? Any of these goodies from Volks catch your attention?

Volks Joint Festa 2: Dealer Floor
Lets not forget that Volks also had a dealer section at the event where garage kit makers showed off their wares. There was a strong lean towards KanKolle at the event, but that was fine as there were some other interesting kits on display as well.
I really liked the chibi Kongou from Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio and the centaur girl figure was also very original. We've seen various other monster musume kits but this is a first for a centaur girl, I think. Just waiting for a full kit of Cetora now...
There was also a strong showing from Kaiju and by that, I mean THE Kaiju! The great Godzilla itself got a fair few kits, including the new version from the american movie! There was also a really cool reimagining of the Arbalest and M9 Gernsback from Full Metal Panic!
Hobby Round (and Joint Festa) seems to be gaining in popularity and, while they don't look to ever be challenging the big events like Wonder Festival, it's always good to see more events to allow Garage Kit makers a chance to show off and sell their wares!

Tonner Dolls: Bianca Lapin and Spring Flowers Ballerina
I actually forgot that I pre-ordered Bianca Lapin! It was a long time from the promo to the actual doll's appearance. She wears a faux leather dress under her cape. (Sculpt - Breathless)
Here is a partial description from the Tonnerdoll.com website:
From the Re-Imagination Collection comes ... Bianca Lapin. Bianca Lapin is in a hurry. Her platinum white hair cascades down her back as she sits inside The Looking Glass tapping her fingers anxiously against the bar. Noticing a sharply dressed gentleman taking a seat beside her, she quickly averts her eyes and glances again at the clock...

Ringing In The Holidays With A Very Special And Early Steiff Lamb
It's easy to jingle all the way with this adorable little lamb. What we have here is Steiff's Lamm or Lamb. She is standing, unjointed, stuffed with excelsior, and made from lamb's wool plush. Lamb's wool plush has a marvelous, "lumpy-bumpy" texture to it, much like that of a real lamb. Although her design is relatively simple, she has wonderful and angular back legs and perfectly lifelike proportions. Her face is detailed with green and black slit pupil style glass eyes, a red hand embroidered red nose an mouth, and a touch of pink airbrushing on her eyes and muzzle. Her ribbon and bell are original. This pre-WW2 design was made in 14, 17, 22, and 28 cm from 1928 through 1943. This basic design in this wonderful material was also produced in a lying position, on wheels, as a music box, and as a ride on animal.
Steiffgal was fortunate enough to win this great example at the recent Morphy Auctions' Toy Auction Sale on December 18, 2015. This lovely lamb really called to her as she already had the 22 cm version of this pattern. And, as all collectors know, you can never have enough of a good thing! The happy duo are pictured together here on the left. They have almost identical ribbons and bells. Isn't their resemblance uncanny?
One of the things that makes this example so special is that it came with full provenance. Lamb is from the estate of Patsy Ziemer. She was given to Patsy on her first birthday by a family friend who also gave her a pair of felt slippers at the same time. You can see this documented in her baby book - a page of which is pictured here on the left. According to her family, "Patsy was born Patricia Erica Lyon in the Philippine Islands on October 20, 1927. She had ancestors dating back to nobility in Germany as early as 1110. Her parents were American Civil Service teachers living in the Philippine Islands when she was born. They moved to Germany in 1928 where they established and managed the American School in Berlin. Her parents were active in pre-war Berlin society and observed first-hand the development of the Nazi party. They barely escaped from Germany as hostilities heated up in 1939. Shortly after arriving in Lake City, Minnesota at the age of 12, Patsy wrote the book Two Thousand and Ten Days of Hitler with her father’s coaching. It described her experiences in pre-war Germany, became a best seller in New York, and was published in many languages."
To honor Patsy and her memory, Steiffgal has named this lovely lamb "Patsy."
Steiffgal hopes this discussion on Patsy's sweet sheep has really rung a bell with you.
