Hasbro makes one more round of Transformers reveals for 2015
After a year of big Transformers reveals between Toy Fair, BotCon, San Diego Comic Con, and New York Comic Con Hasbro wasn't content. They couldn't help themselves and had to make one last round of reveals to end the year. It's nothing too surprising, but it does confirm a lot of speculation and rumors.
The biggest reveal is Titans Return Powermaster Optimus Prime. Then name is a misnomer as he's really a Headmaster now, but since they're now calling all of these Titan Masters I guess it doesn't really matter. PMOP is a massive remolding of Combiner Wars Leader class Ultra Magnus, to the point that little of the original figure remains. He's retained the overall look of the original PMOP, but not being a Powermaster he now has an even larger chest engine that doesn't have to turn into a little robot. Speaking of which, Hi-Q (or whatever he gets renamed) has gone from turning into an engine to Prime's head. But not his entire head, the new Titan Masters are Deluxe size heads with parts that flip onto them to make them larger for Voyager and Leader class figures. What does he look like without the PMOP parts? They aren't showing us yet, maybe Orion Pax? Maybe God Bomber? We'll find out soon enough. Lastly he still can form into a base mode just like all of the Titans Return Leader class figures. It doesn't feel complete without ramps, maybe it's mistransformed?
Hasbro also gave us a new piece of art showing off the yet-to-be-fully revealed Fortress Maximus! Hasbro has kept really quiet about this one, but an unvarified report said he'll be the first release of the Titans Return line. That makes him a late spring or summer release most likely. He's expected to be 24 inches tall just like Metroplex and looks mostly like his G1 counterpart. This will be one to look forward to next year.
Last shown of the Generations line is the latest of the Combiner Wars G2 repaint box sets. For G2 fans this Combaticon set is perfect to go with the previously announced repaints of the Aerialbots and Stunticons. As a bonus they've included a G2-inspired repaint of Legends class Shockwave which borrow its orange chest and gun from his Action Master figure. Hasbro has yet to say where or when these'll show up at retail, but it shouldn't be that far away.
Something new from G1 shown is the very strange Alt-Mode line of super deformed figures. The head can be opened and the body be replaced by a vehicle form inside. They're really silly looking and I doubt I'll buy any. Not really sure if kids will go for them either. Who were these made for? Coincidentally the lineup of Optimus Prime, Nemesis Prime, Megatron, Starscream, Thundercracker, and Skywarp is exactly the same as for Kotobukiya's D-Style SD plastic model line.
Lastly Hasbro is going full force into Robots in Disguise Minicon figures with several new (and repainted) releases. There are also some new Deployers and even a few normal Autobots in the Minicon style. There's a lot on the way, here's the list:
- 2016 Minicon singles wave 1 - Blizzard Strike Slipstream, Back, Hammer, and Swelter
- 2016 Minicon singles wave 2 - Jetstorm, Ransack, and Glacius
- 2016 Minicon Battle Packs wave 1 - Anvil, Doomitron, Optimus Prime, and Sideswipe,
- 2016 Minicon Battle Packs wave 2 - Back, Bumblebee, Major Mayhem, and Grimlock
- 2016 Minicon Four Pack - Backtrack, Swelter, Beastbox, Scorch Strike Undertone
- 2016 Deployers wave 1 - Overload with Backtrack, Blizzard Strike Drift with Jetstorm,
- 2016 Deployers wave 2 - Crazy Bolt with Hammer
Hasbro has already revealed so much for 2016, I can't imagine what's left for Toy Fair in February and BotCon in April. 2016 is looking like a very expensive year for Transformers collectors.
