Premium Bandai gives you the tools to lead the Digidestined
Digimon is 15 years old and Premium Bandai knows how to celebrate! They could just do a bunch of figures and models and call it a day, but that wouldn't be enough. Instead they're doing a bunch of figures, a model, a cool Digivice, and goggles!
Oh, let's just start with Taichi's Goggles right off. Coming out in December with pre-orders open until September 30 these high quality goggles will run you a pretty reasonable ¥4,850 (US$39). They have a nice stretchy band and made of materials that I don't recognize (PE, PC, EVA, POM?). Ironically they're aged 15 and up so Tai wouldn't actually be able to buy a pair.
If you're in the market for a Digivice then PB has the ultimate version. This thing is overloaded with features! It's clear and can be lit up into any one of eight colors for each of the Digidestined. It plays recordings from each of the partner Digimon by the original Japanese actors, It plays both the theme song Butterfly (90 seconds) and brave heart (30 seconds). It has a die-cast antenna and comes with a summer camp ID tag for Tai. You can check out some of its other features in this handy video. Pre-orders are open right now until September 24 for ¥8,100 (US$65) with shipments going out in December.
When it comes to figures our favorite angels are getting the G.E.M. Series treatment. Angemon with TK and Angewomon with Kari both stand 22 cm (8.66 inches) at their highest point, both are being released in February 2016, and both are priced at ¥12,528 (US$101) each. As an added bonus TK's head can be swapped with the previous G.E.M. figure for extra expressions!
Um, has Angewomon always been so... blessed?
In the world of plastic models Bandai has brought back their Omnimon/Omegamon kit from 2010 and recast it in translucent, sparkly plastic for the upcoming Digimon Tri movie series. The price is still the same as the original at ¥3,800 (US$31) and will be coming out in December.
Wrapping up we've got a new S.H. Figuarts version of Omnimon/Omegamon. I'm pretty certain this is an entirely new figure and not an update of the similar D-Arts figure without the metallic paint. This figure is one centimeter shorter than the previous (16 cm or 6.3 inches) and features a poseable cloth cape and translucent mini figures of Tai and Matt. He's priced at ¥7,020 (US$56) and going in the mail in January 2016.
That's a lot of stuff covering just the original kids! Unfortunately being Premium Bandai means you'll either have to find a proxy to buy them directly or be willing to pay a mark up (or simply live in Japan). It would be nice if Bandai threw us a bone and started taking international orders or opened up a separate store.
