Diamond Select Toys, makers of the popular Minimates line, has announced that Walgreen's will be selling an exclusive Minimates series based on the Marvel Animated Universe.

Marvel Minimates Animated Series 1 will be available at Walgreen’s stores nationwide starting September 4. The line will feature Diamond Select’s first cartoon-based Marvel Minimates, taking characters from Avengers Assemble, Ultimate Spider-Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy (which apparently has a cartoon now. Guess I've got a lot of catching up to to!).

The four 2-packs will feature:

• Hulk and Captain America (Avengers Assemble), with alternate faces for both, plus a shield and an unmasked hairpiece for Steve Rogers.
• Star-Lord and Groot (Guardians of the Galaxy), along with a 1-inch micro-figure of Rocket Raccoon, as well as a blaster and a mask for Star-Lord.
• Spider-Man and Electro (Ultimate Spider-Man), with an alternate Spidey head, a webline, lightning blasts and an energy base. If that wasn't cool enough, Electro also glows in the dark!
• Spider-Man 2099 and Agent Venom (Ultimate Spider-Man), with a webline.

If you missed getting the Amazing Spider-Man 2 Electro Minimate, you may have lucked out since a glow-in-the-dark version seems even cooler. Otherwise, who can resist a Spider-Man 2099 Minimate?

While Walgreen's isn't a name that people usually associate with toys, the pharmacy chain has managed to land a surprising number of exclusives in the past two years or so. Hopefully these will be more widely available than some of the other items. These figures aren't currently listed for pre-order on the Walgreen's website (although that can change) where the search term "Minimates" turns up, well, a *different* kind of toy...
