LEGO reigns as number one toy maker on the planet in sales
Can you believe it? LEGO started 2013 as the number three toy maker in the world before easily overtaking Hasbro's number two spot by the middle of the year. And then a year later LEGO did what seemed impossible and knocked Mattel off the top where they've sat for many years. As of the first half of 2014 LEGO's earnings reached US$2.03 billion while Mattel's was at US$2.0 billion. The margin is thin, but this is the first time LEGO has topped the US$2 billion point, no small feat entering Mattel's familiar territory.
While LEGO has seen a strong and steady rise in sales for many years, much of the credit this year has been given to the LEGO Movie pushing kids into the toy aisles. An increase in licensed sets and video games have also proven to be a huge success. With a bright holiday season still ahead and the movie sequel announced for 2017 (with two rumored followups) the future is very bright for LEGO.
But Mattel isn't letting this go without a fight. Back in February Mattel bought LEGO's closest building block rival company MEGA Brands, Inc., makers of Mega Bloks, for US$460 million ensuring their own place in the brick aisle. Still, when you consider that LEGO at its core basically only makes one product, block toys, while Mattel makes everything from baby toys to dolls to action figures, the accomplishments are most impressive!
With LEGO's history of consistently larger gains year after year expect even bigger numbers at this point next year.

Brian Snow Buddy Adorable Snowman E-Pattern And Print Pattern
Brian Snow Buddy was the first shelf sitter doll that I designed and is one of my favorites. The reason couldn't be because he has a story associated with him regarding one of my grandson's - or could it?
He is a free-standing snowman with a warm & natural cloth body, embroidered face with black eyes, flannel vest, fringed scarf, snow cap with bell , and carries a small “I (heart) snow” sign. Small bows decorate his vest.
"Brian Snow Buddy" loves to snowboard and is always looking for a challenge. He looks for the toughest and steepest hill he can find. The steeper and rockier the better. He is a bit of a dare devil and, so far, has broken any bones.
He is also a bit of a flirt. All you have to do is look at his "Facebook" page to attest to that.
Here's the story behind my Brian Snow-Buddy doll:
I posted this story on my Linda's Blog, but thought you might enjoy reading it here. Here's the story:
The snowguy to the left is called "Brian Snow Buddy" and is named after one of my grandsons.
I named him that because he is just so adorable, as is my grandson.
He's my buddy, as is my grandson.
He's my pal, as is my grandson.
He's so squeezable, as is my grandson.
He's just so huggable, as is my grandson.
He's just so lovable, as is my grandson.
He's so......Stop it, Nana. You're embarrassing me.
Who said that? "Brian Snow Buddy" or my grandson Brian? Both.
Nah! They both love compliments.
When I was designing this doll he kept telling me "make me like Brian." I know, you think I'm crazy that the dolls talk to me. It's bad enough that they talk to me after they're created but before too. Well, yah.
Anyway, I had to make something that was as adorable, squeezable, lovable and excitable as Brian was as a little boy. Still is for that matter. He had the cutest fiery red cheeks. Talk about excitable. At Christmas time he could barely control himself.
Back to the story. So, "Brian Snow Buddy" became the most adorable lovable, excitable, and squeezable snowman around. Go on, give him a squeeze or a hug. He'll love it. So will you.
Brian Snow Buddy just loves the snow, as does my grandson.
"Brian Snow Buddy" is strong in body, as is my grandson.
He's determined, bold and brave, as is my grandson.
He's stubborn, staunch and firm, as is my grandson.
He's powerful and forceful, as is my grandson.
He's bulky in figure, thick set and corpulent, as is.......OOPS! That's not my grandson.
He's a lean, mean fighting machine and I LOVE HIM.
Stop it, Nana! You're embarrassing me.
Who said that? My grandson or "Brian Snow Buddy?"
want some dolls with your coffee?
Coffee tables can be anything from boring, too big, too small, painful corners, great storage, running all the way to unusual. But for families, coffee tables become even more: game time, train table, Lego central, movie night meals, etc. etc. But I’d never considered using one as a dollhouse before. Designed by Ulyanov Architects, this beauty of […]

Custom Delights: Josh Mayhem's Iron Giant Dunny
Josh Mayhem has recently completed a new 3-inch Dunny commission, and this one is one of my favorites from 2014. His Iron Giant Dunny is exactly what you'd expect: a pint-sized representation of the film's title character, using a modified Dunny as a base. Sure, the head is easy enough to spot as a resculpted and re-painted Dunny head, but the body is actually a Dunny as well, turned upside down and kit-bashed with some Gundam plamo parts.
Since it was a private commission, this piece is off to reside on someone's shelf (lucky them), but Josh does take commissions. You can contact him via Facebook or his website for more info.
