How Do You Figure? In 2009, I chose the 3 and ¾ inch Marvel action figures over the Marvel Legends 6 inch action figures. At the time, there were the Marvel Universe single and double packs, Wolverine and the X-Men, and Wolverine: X-Men Origins lines running in the smaller size. That meant four times the […]

Designed by Mitch Barchi, the Adventurer’s Kit is what I imagine someone like Mark Twain or Winston Churchill would have played D&D with back in their day.

    From the artist:

The Adventurer’s Kit had been inspired by my lifelong passion for roleplaying games like Dungeons and Dragons or World of Dungeons. My goal was to create a portable kit that anyone could pickup and play a quick, or introductory, roleplaying session with little to no prep time. I created a simple overland map illustration for the lid using the Art Institute of Seattle’s lasercutter. I also included a standard set of polyhedral dice since they are used in many roleplaying systems. Many roleplaying systems also use miniatures, I wanted to include some basic minis for the players. The miniatures featured in these sets are vintage unpainted Heroscape monsters. Also provided is a Moleskine notebook with gridded paper if the player or game master want to map a dungeon or take notes. Each kit also includes a pamphlet for the excellent hack and slash World of Dungeons RPG system. These printouts and other adventure PDFs can be found on for free. With the tools provided in these kits players and game masters alike can enjoy an adventure on the go.

Too bad it’s a one-off. This guy should think about pitching this to Wizards of the Coast for some sort of D&D Collector’s Edition Starter Set idea. I’d totally by the living shit out of something like that.

[Update: Hey, look, pre-orders are up. Find them down below.]

Coming into the Sword Art Online 2 anime I wasn't really sure what to expect from series newcomer Sinon. The early previews made her look like the cold, emotionless type, and she certainly does try her best to give off that air. Thankfully she turned out to be much more multidimensional, even more so than much of the existing supporting cast. Let's face it, Kirito and Asuna were pretty boring people before Aincrad. But not Sinon, oh no, she's got a background story and everything.

But that's really neither here nor there, let's take a moment to admire all the effort that went into her new Nendoroid figure. First things first, I really love how crisp and clean her lines are. The contrast between the white and green with the thin lines in between are quite nicely done, very sharp. The second thing I'm drawn to is the eyes. Nendoroids are known for having colorful eyes, but the combination of colors, shading, reflections, and shape give them so much depth you forget they're painted onto a flat surface.

Outside of aesthetics she has quite a few nice little features. For one you'll notice she has elbow joints, a real rarity among Nendoroids. She also had the back of her head sculpted in such a way that she can lift her head up, but you can't tell from looking at it. Combine the two and you've got a Nendoroid that's even capable of an army crawling pose perfect for sniping. Add to that the extra scarf made for when she's laying prone on her stomach and you've got a Nendo that can be displayed like none other in your collection. Also notice that she has her backup pistol secured to the back of her shorts. As far as expressions go she's got her normal stoic expression and a cute blushing face. That's one less face than a lot of Nendos get, but you have to figure you're making up for it with the elbows plus there's an extra bent right leg and muzzle flash effect as well.

No word on price yet, but we do know she'll be out in December. Pre-orders should be starting at the usual suspects tonight so don't forget to get your order in and get ready for some Gun Gale action!

Well this is a great surprise! It was only about a month ago that MegaHouse announced they were following up their G.E.M. series Digimon figures of Tai (Taichi) and Matt (Yamato) with their younger siblings Kari (Hikari) and TK (Takeru). Without making a bunch of live appearances or magazine photoshoots, here we are, pre-order day, just like that.

And just like their older brothers, TK and Kari look like great figures! Kari posing with Gatomon with their palms together is pretty cute. She gets a second expression with a winking eye similar to Tai. Gatomon also has neck articulation for a little extra posing. TK is posed running with Patamon hanging onto his hat. And as perfect bonus you can remove Patamon and terrorize him with a DemiDevimon figure to clench onto his hat along with a special expression.

These are some great looking figures that are going to look really nice with Tai and Matt and hopefully other figures in the future. As a bonus both figures also come with a Digimon trading card. Both figures are due out in January for ¥4,800 each so plan accordingly for a second dive into the DigiWorld!
