Bandai gets ready to Digivolve the Digimon Digivice later this year
What goes around comes around and just like how Bandai likes to revisit the older Power Rangers every now and then the same is looking no different for Digimon Adventures. To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the series Bandai is going back to the original series with two new collectible Digivices. A product page on the Premium Bandai shop shows silhouettes of two Digivices that any fan of the series should recognize as representing Tai and Matt by the Crest of Courage and the Crest of Friendship.
Not a lot of information is on the page, but what we do know is these are reproductions of the original toys released in Japan, but Bandai claims they've been "super evolved" so I guess we can expect some upgraded tech inside. They're priced at ¥9,990 and will go on sale Augusts first for a December release. While information is sparse for now they're planning to give these a full reveal at an event on July 19. If we're lucky we'll see an English version show up outside of Japan, perhaps as a San Diego Comic Con exclusive in the future?

Kotobukiya's Mikasa means business in Amiami's preview
I've been impressed by what I've seen of Kotobukiya's Mikasa figure so far. Amiami recently uploaded a preview gallery, and their shots made me feel even better about the figure.
In the gallery you can get a great look at the shading on her cloak, the sculpt on her uniform, and of course her maneuver gear. Every thing looks good so far, though I did notice that from some angles Mikasa looks a little less graceful. From the side, it looks like she's in full-on titan killing mode. From the front and back, it kind of looks like she's stumbling. It's only natural; tree branches are hard to balance on after all.
Pre-orders are still open for Mikasa so if you missed out on (or don't want, for whatever reason) Good Smile Company's version, you can still pick this one up.

Good Smile opening new Japanese factory
Mikatan's old letter column, Kuroyagi-san's Letter Corner, has been rebranded as Kahotan Post Office, and in its first edition, she's officially announced (in English) that Good Smile Company will be setting up a figure production factory in Japan. Specifically, it'll be in Kurayoshi in Tottori Prefecture, at the Nishikurayoshi industrial park. According to the original Japanese news post, they're expecting an October opening date, and Nendoroids will, at the very least, be produced there.
I'm a bit curious what this might mean for costs as they relate to GSC's future releases, but having a GSC-owned factory within Japan that they could, theoretically, travel to easier is a potential bonus to quality control and other production-related issues. What are your thoughts on the news? Oh, and do keep in mind you can e-mail Kahotan with your own questions, as well!

Funko's Hikari line undergoes a slight transformation
After weeks and weeks of colorways, Funko has suddenly started announcing new molds for its Hikari line. Last week saw Mystic Powers Skeletor (the coolest figure in the line thus far) and now, possibly in honor of Transformers: Age of Extinction opening today, the company has unveiled TWO Transformers molds: Optimus Prime and Bumblebee.
Both figures are (thankfully) based on their classic appearances and done in a "Clear Glitter" deco. They sport a blocky design, giving them a vastly different aesthetic from what we've seen in the line thus far. It seems like a neat look and I'm curious how they'll look with different decos. Given that the Transformers themselves are no strangers to colorways, it's something of an ideal match.
As always, you can win the first copy of ONE of these figures by entering a contest on Funko's Facebook page. If you don't win, you still have a chance to purchase one of the remaining 2,999 copies (each has a 3,000 print run) although if you really want one I'd strongly encourage you to pre-order now anyway because several retailers sold out very quickly on that Skeletor (I'm looking at you, BBTS!). They're slated for an October release and have a US$50 list price.
