X-Plus's swimsuit Mirajane won't get my pre-order
X-Plus has stirred up quite a bit of controversy with its line of Fairy Tail swimsuit figures, with their take on Erza (NSFW) proving particularly inflammatory over here at Tomo Towers. Now they're back with a new figure, this one of guild beauty Mirajane Strauss.
Mirajane's better than Erza (really almost anything would have been) but this is still a pretty naff figure for more than one reason. I suppose you could make an argument a bikini pose isn't out of character for her, since she's a model and all. Still, this feels creepy and exploitative to me, especially given the embarrassed, worried face. It's also not a great figure on a technical level, with sloppy painting and bad sculpting running rampant.
As I'm sure you can tell I won't be putting down my money for Mirajane, but if you like what you see we've got pre-order links below. She'll be ¥6,800 and arrive this May. Really though, think of all the other good things you could use that money on.

figma Strength tv ver. flexes muscles in preview gallery
Max Factory's upcoming figma Strength tv version has received a preview gallery. The figure was previously slated to release in January but since then has been bumped back to March.
While I've never really jumped on the Black Rock Shooter bandwagon (despite buying the first version of Dead Master), it's hard to not find Strength's design appealing from the oversized robot hands/arms to her crazy face. Add a hooded look to the mix and you have a pretty neat set that may appeal to non-fans. Of course, the only problem is that the added bits don't necessarily denote a great value because you're paying quite a bit more -- roughly ¥2,000 more -- than a lot of other figma releases (but at least she's cheaper than Thor!).
The preview gallery demonstrates how her alternate arms are attached, how the finger segments are apparently removable, and shows how the additional stands are needed to support her arms (each presumably weighing more than the figure's body) in the air. I can't say that I like the price, but Strength herself is presumably capable of some really fun posing which may make for neat photography.
Be sure to check out the gallery for additional images.
