MAGIC: THE GATHERING IS GETTING A MOVIE
It was bound to happen. 20th Century Fox scooped up the rights to Hasbro's trading card game Magic: The Gathering. The studio wants to turn it into a big franchise like Lord of the Rings which sounds awesome. The bad news? They’re getting Simon Kinberg to help bring it to life. Let’s just hope it’s not as awful as another beloved franchise that he brought to life on the silver screen: Fantastic Four.
I’m actually a huge MTG fan and, yes, I even follow the lore. While I’d much rather see a Game of Thrones-esque TV series, I’ll gladly settle for a movie. The lore isn’t anything mindblowing to begin with, so there’s definitely room to improve upon the foundations for a film franchise.

Max Factory's Cerberus is painted, is gorgeous
Figure companies have been on a real tear with their Rage of Bahamut offerings. We'd previously drooled over the stunning Dark Angel Olivia by Kotobukiya but now Max Factory is stepping into the fray with their own candidate, this lovely rendition of the dog-handed Cerberus.
We'd previously seen her at WonFes but fully painted up the effect is magnified tenfold. Check out that amazing glossy purple armour, the swooping hair and fabric wings and the fantastic detailing on the golden trim. It's an immediate stunner, and the twin dogs lend an amusingly surreal air to the otherwise straightforwardly sexy design.
Cerberus goes up for pre-order tomorrow, and although we don't have a price yet I feel safe in saying it'll be a pretty hefty sum. I suspect a fast sellout too, so keep your eyes peeled. We'll have pre-order links here as soon as possible!

Two Bad about Matty Collector's January sale...
Matty Collector's January sale starts in 24 hours (Early Access starts now), but I don't care about any of that ever since Two Bad was reconfigured as a Club Eternia exclusive. Sigh.
MotUC Two Bad was originally slated to be available to everybody during the sale prior to Matty Collector's decision to pull, well, a Matty move and switched Two Bad to an exclusive as part of a broader effort to sell additional Club Eternia subscriptions. Oh well, he probably would have been gone by the end of the Early Access anyway...
As Matty Collector trudges into a new year, there's an strong impression that the once-proud division may have fallen a few rungs. Gone is Club Infinite Earths, along with the single-year Club Black Freighter and Club Filmation; the end result promises to be a somewhat barren year and one need not look far for an example as the January sale will be the first in ages to not offer even ONE new product to the general public. The sale consists of another selling of MotUC Ram Man, MotUC Dekker (released last November), and DCU/Signature Collection Freddy Freeman (released last July). Oh, plus there are still some Castle Grayskulls to be had.
The sale wouldn't be noteworthy at all if not for the presence of Ram Man, who I seem to recall selling out pretty quickly during the other sales. While Matty Collector does have a few non-club items coming out (including the broken-up remnants of Club Infinite Earths), it's still shaping up to be a rotten year for the division.
[ Order at Matty Collector ]
For those wondering how Matty Collector will survive at all once Club Eternia ends, Scott Neitlich recently addressed these concerns... by once again teasing plans to keep Club Eternia going past 2015. The Toy Guru included remarks that "This does not mean in any way 2015 is guaranteed to be the last year of Classics" and "it does not mean 2015 is THE END" in a long, rambling update that seemed to include every catch-phrase he's used over the past year when promoting the club.
The cynical among you may get a brief chuckle from the overly wordy update but, all snarking aside, I would love to see the line go on. I'm curious what they might do with an iconic location like Snake Mountain (which I imagine *may* pop up as a possible pre-order this year) and where the line could go from there.

a little birthday party
Since our house is a re-modeling shambles, it seemed the best idea in the world to host Birdie’s 5th birthday party somewhere other than home sweet home. But I couldn’t let go of a couple personal touches – like a birthday cake and favors! Luckily Birdie was very excited by a flower-themed decoration scheme, which […]
