Last month, pre-orders opened for Kaitendoh's original Daydream Collection Female Teacher Mari and I was a bit critical about the 1/6 scale figure based on what photos have been released. Moeyo has a gallery (NSFW) for both versions of this figure giving us a more detailed look at Kaitendoh's lovely but not quite teacher. Now it just says "teacher" so you can fill in the blank for where she teaches. I'm going with college.
Kaitendoh is releasing two version of this candy resin figure, one that uses an anime/manga style face and another that has a more realistic face. I'll jump right into my issues with the REAL ver. of this figure. My issue with this version is the hair. The MANGA ver. is passable because it has that cartoon look in the face but the REAL ver. it stands out too much when compared to the face. It doesn't help that it has that glossy look to it. Then there are the clothes. The figure is 1/6 scale so why do the folds lack such detail and depth? It looks lazy. I have to blame this on the material used for this figure.
The figure does have a cast off feature, leaving Mari in only her underwear. ...and Kaitendoh managed to botch that, too. I'm one to normally ignore the seams but this is just a joke for this figure. Where the arms detach, there's a glaring seam and some weird heart shape indention. I would have said, "oh, it's a tattoo" but it's not. It's like she had an armband on extremely tight and just now removed it leaving the impression. Yeah, she's naked it but your eyes will always go to that nasty seam and heart on the arm. ...or the badly molded hair
I can't deny that it's s sexy figure but way too many flaws are attacking my eyes that I balk at the ¥12,000 retail price tag Kaitendoh is asking for. If I had to choose, I would definitely go with the MANGA ver. because, yeah... that hair and face on the REAL ver. really bothers me. I would pick it up if I saw it at a fraction of the price. ...say, like... 60% of the price. ...maybe.
