[Business Wire] - On the eve of the Indianapolis 500, it was four kids, not professional race car drivers, who set a world record in front of a roaring crowd. Staged right on the front straightaway of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Hot Wheels® created a 1 mile-long, four-lane toy racetrack to celebrate its “World’s Best Driver™ Championship” event.

Well, I feel like I’ve already seen everything in the movie from the trailer but then maybe I’m not really the single digit age target of this movie? Who is the target of this movie? Couldn’t they just have animated all the 6 Fast & Furious movies into one 10-hour cartoon all voiced by Ben [...]

Am thoroughly appreciative that there are new sequences seen in the TV Spots, one tends to worry of the filmmakers are giving too much away … then there's this "Behind the Scenes Featurette" to hammer the "need of watching this film" fast and hard into thy brains, and it's all right by me :)

"Art Project" @ Star Wars Day Jakarta #SWDJKT

One aspect of Star Wars Day Jakarta, for me personally, was the SWDJKT: "Art Project" exhibition. Curated and organized by Yudi Andhika, on show were a myriad of artwork depicting scenes and characters from the Star Wars lore, including ANTZ, Clogtwo and Inkten representing Singapore!

Shown up top is the poster for the Art Project - as done by housethehouse studio - but was unable to make the first day launch of the 2-day weekend show, unfortunately amongst a few other artists/designers' too.

Thus far I had also featured works from The Yellow Dino (with Marine Ramdhani), Castella Natalia, Wiyoga Muhardanto and David The Killer (all 3-dimensional pieces, actually), and even the "Live" Graffiti session featuring The Yellow Dino, Bedlam and Mr KumKum … and today we take a look at all other canvas artwork! Mind you, my photographs does the actual artwork no justice, baring the flares, whiteouts from spotlights … forgive me?

What I truly enjoy about this exhibition, was the interpretation of fictional characters from as far back as nearly four decades ago, by artists who might not have actually sat in the cinema seats when the film(s) premiered (which isn't and should't be the issue at all, as Yudi explained in the video below), and that amongst all the celebration of Star Wars - which consisted of merchandize and memorabilia, and toys etc - is this refreshing depiction+creation of art, in both 2D and 3D forms. Bravo, everyone!

As well, images seen in the slideshows above (and more!) has been posted in THIS dedicated Facebook album for all to view! Again I offer my apologies, as I do not have all the artists' information, so please feel free to add your name and URL-links to your relevant page = it's all good, folks!

I had an interview with "Art Project" Curator (who insists on being called "Organizer" instead) Yudi Andhika aka The Yellow Dino about the project's genesis (my humble apologies for the lackluster audio recordingm please tune the volume way up top listen!):

Now that you've seen the artwork for the "Art Project" on exhibition at last weekend's Star Wars Day Jakarta, here's a look at some of the giclee prints that were made available for sale (priced at an average of IDR$100,000 / SGD$13 / US$10) and most limited to 30 pieces only. Apparently there were more on Day One, but I missed all of them (*wails*), but snagged the rest on Day 2!

There was also a scheduled signing by some of the artists, but their delayed timing clashed with a pre-planned activity I had, so I went home with no signatures - which is a waste, as it would be so much more enriching if they were signed … nevertheless, no news thus far if any remaining prints would be available for online sales, but will update accordingly…

Spinning Battle by Urban Jedi x Jaksaber @ Star Wars Day Jakarta #SWDJKT 2013

The Bandung faction known as Urban Jedi (@URBAN_JEDI_BDG / Facebook) met and pit lightsaber-to-lightsaber with Jakarta's JAKsaber (@JAKsaber / www.jakartasaber.com) in a glorious "SPINNING BATTLE" at last weekend's Star Wars Day Jakarta, and all I could, dazzled by the spinning neon lights, was to silently record them on video, and share the images with you, my dear readers!

And while my first visual experience with Spinning Battles and twirling lightsabers was via online videos seen in last years Star Wars Day Bandung, this time it would be my first, seeing them up close like this, and I am intrigued to find out more, and see more...

The members' enthusiasm is evident, and what they choose to wear, is also indicative of their devotion to their craft and hobby. In my earlier teaser post, I mentioned the lady in white top and grey shorts, Ratna, is wearing what she named an "Urban Amidala" outfit, and I am truly liking the adaptation of the primary source theme, and fitting it into contemporary settings, and kicking Sith-a$$ in tactical gear! (As thse images swiped from the Urban Jedi Facebook can attest ;p) ... One thing is for sure, the unity they have in regards to "Star Wars", is undeniable. Now, that is devotion, beyond just cosplaying their fav character, IMHO.

Here's a quick post to share a totally great photo that a friend of ours shared with us on our BAT-BLOG FACEBOOK Page. It's from a guy named jeremiah and this is how he has his collection of TOPPS Batman Movie-Related Trading Card Boxes on display. He has them all set-up in a really nice display case. (Please be sure to click on the actual photo for a larger, more detailed, picture)

Wow! I remember so many of these cards when they were originally being sold at my local 7-Eleven. I collected some of these for a little while. Plus, I totally loved the "Candy-Filled Plastic Heads". I don't think they really make these anymore. But thanks to Jeremiah we can all see them again!

Oh yeah, and if OU are not a member of our BAT-BLOG Facebook Page then we would like to invite you to join-up, right now! It's FREE, just CLICK HERE!

BATMAN and His 1966 BATMOBILE CAR Spotted in Northern Virginia - Photographic Proof!

These fun photos were contributed by a Bat-Blog Fan named Matt who saw this event happen in Northern VA ( right outside of DC ) on a recent Saturday afternoon. Matt wrote,

"My wife and I were on our way home when we noticed a bunch of people pointing and shouting at a Gas Station. We pulled in to check it out and came across this scene. I’m pretty sure it is Leonard Robinson, a wealthy businessman who dresses up as Batman and visits children in area hospitals - an amazing guy! He attracted quite a crowd and was extremely kind and gracious to all the onlookers, posing for pictures and handing out little Batman trinkets to the kids. In any case, it was all quite surreal and very cool to see! Thought you might enjoy these pictures. Thanks!"

No, Thank you Matt, these are some extremely wonderful photos. You got some great pics! Oh man, this must have been so fun to witness & thanks again for sharing these pics.

BATMAN COMIC BOOK ART WALL MURAL By Gabor Danó from Hungary

Check out this beautiful BATMAN WALL MURAL painted by our friend, Gabor Danó. He is an Artist living in Hungary who recently painted this giant-size BATMAN graphic on his wall. I remember this comic book cover when it came out and it's a great choice for a mural, very iconic. Plus, our friend did a really great job on it.

You can see him with his art in the first photo and the other photos show sort of a progression of the painting in progress, great stuff! ( Thanks Gabor, keep up the good work! )

Good news.  Mattel has heard our plea to open the yearly sub window for longer.   However the extended time will be in June BEFORE the SDCC announcements of the first 4-5 figures in the 2014 subs.   It will be interesting to see how many collectors buy into the subs before knowing any figures in the [...]
