It was just announced yesterday and I wasn't thrilled by the news. It's just what feels like Master Grade Gundam #47. There's a reason why it was made though and Bandai had to prove that today. With what looks like a 1/100 scale Real Grade, it's not such a bad thing after all as Bandai appears to have kept their word as to making the next generation of Gunpla.
It can definitely pose the way they said it would, surpassing poseability that I've seen in kits prior to this. The armor design is definitely reminiscent of the Real Grade and consequently the Odaiba Gundam. The kit is certainly decal-heavy like the RG and has armor separation like it. Unfortunately, that's the biggest weakness of the kit to me. For every heap of praise I'd love to give it, it's too similar to things we've seen in the past.
Bandai set out to do something special with the 3.0. It's great to see that MG kits will be better going forward, but this release to me just feels like more of the same. It will be interesting to see how the kit does in fact turn out, but if you haven't built a MG RX-78-2 Gundam yet, maybe it's about time that you did and the 3.0 can be that kit.
Unfortunately, Bandai has also continued their other practice with this kit. Separate part sets. If you want water slide decals, Beam Javelin, Hyper Bazooka and a LED unit, you have to buy it separately, and presumably, online. It's annoying and I wouldn't mind it as much if they would allow them to be sold in North America. If you allow us to compete in the global Gunpla competition, then allow us to actually buy all of the Gunpla. You will be able to pre-order the Master Grade Gundam 3.0 this August for ¥4,500.
