This week is the Shizuoka Hobby Show. Bandai likes to bring out all of the stops and make huge announcements with its plamo lines. The big reveal has come early in the form of the next generation of Master Grade kits. The first kit to feature all of these advancements will be the MG RX-78-2 Gundam version 3.0.
For those wondering what is actually different this time around, its understandably tough to see. Bandai is claiming to have incorporated changes into the frame of the Master Grade, allowing the armor to move along with the frame. While this does allow for great poseability, I struggle to see how it's much different from what's currently available. The last version of the RX-78-2, ver. 2.0, was a fantastic kit that I can't see how much more poseability they can get out of it.
On the surface, the details are reminiscent of the Odaiba Gundam, so there's going to be a lot of calls that this is essentially a Master Grade of the advancements done by the Real Grade line. I'm curious to see how this kit can be such a leap in tech worthy enough to call it a brand-new version. With details as scant as they are, we'll have to wait until Shizuoka this Thursday to see how this kit actually stands out from its predecessors. If you feel the need to act quickly, you can go ahead and pre-order it now. It will be released this August for ¥4,500.
