How to make your dragon (plush)
I may never have seen Dreamworks' How to Train Your Dragon or know much about their character, Toothless, but I certainly appreciate a good, handmade plush. Nooby-banana over at deviantART not only skillfully crafted her own Toothless plush but is helping others do the same by providing a pattern and tutorial. The pattern is broken into six parts (the link to the six's pattern doesn't work but you can find it in her gallery here). It looks like a lot of people have made their own plushes using this patterns with great results. Oh and I should mention, this Toothless will end up being 3 feet long with a 3 and a half foot wingspan. Yeah, he's a biggie.
I don't know about you but I suddenly feel the itch to fire up my sewing machine. Are any of you, dear readers, interested in trying out this pattern?

Teru Fujita's Androids are more than meets the eye
The latest Tenacious Toys Super Series Sundays release is out, and it's a series of custom 3-inch Androids from Teru Fujita. The initial appearance of the figure is that of a regular DIY Android, so there has to be something hidden inside, right? That would be correct: if you press a little button on the back of the Android, the head lifts up and reveals a sculpted robot head underneath with LED-illuminated eyes. The mechanism is spring-loaded, according to Tenacious Toys, so when you take your finger off the button, the head goes back down and the eyes turn off. It does require a large button battery to illuminate the eyes, and you can see in the photos that the battery is hidden inside one of the Android's legs.
If you want one for yourself, there's eight of these little guys up in the Tenacious Toys store for US$200 each. Yeah, not cheap for a custom, but do keep in mind that a.) they're a very limited run and b.) there's a ton of mechanical components that go into creating these little guys. We've put a few videos after the jump if you want to see how they work for yourself; I'm quite impressed with the mechanical aspects of this custom figure!

What Toys Are Up To: Golden Week
Golden Week is a week in Japan where there are many national holidays celebrated. This year, it was observed from April 29 to May 5. Many Japanese people have the whole week off of work to rest or travel. Tons of people take vacations and travel; this tends to book all the hotels up. Popular tourist spots in the U.S. like Hawaii and Los Angeles even see increased tourism during these times of the year. (If you want to read more, you can always check out Wikipedia on the subject of Golden Week.)
So what are figurine collectors doing during Golden Week? Well, as much as we all would love to take a week off of work and play, Golden Week is not exactly an international holiday. Still, thanks to the many collectors submitting photos to GSC's English Facebook page, I pulled together a cute gallery of figurines eating, resting, and doing other things while enjoying their very own Golden Week! There are a bunch of must-see photos in the gallery, so check it out.
