  • 04/13/13--07:53: IDEX Friday, April 12, 2013
  • Written on Saturday morning.

Friday was a fun, busy day. In the morning we toured the IDEX showroom and spent time chatting with Robert Tonner, Jack Kralik, The Angelic Dreamz Guyz and Michelle of Wilde Imagination and others.
IDEX has changed dramatically from the last one I attended. It's about 1/3 the size. Major companies such as Madame Alexander are not here. Attendance was sparse and many of the booths seemed underpopulated. However, some of the booths were fantastic and beautifully designed.

Because the hotel internet connection is crawling, I had to upload yesterday's pictures to my Facebook page. Clicking on the image below will take you there.  When I return home, I will post the images on this blog for those who cannot see Facebook.

I have edited the pictures down to my favorites. You will see a fire engine outside the hotel. At one point an announcement came over the PA system ordering everyone to exit the building. Apparently it was a false alarm.

In the late afternoon, Bob and I went to see Olympus Has Fallen. It is not a movie for the faint of heart and definitely not for children. Holy Crap! It was exhausting just watching it. I do recommend it for the action and excitement and it is very timely. However I hope that it's an impossible scenario because it is very frightening.
From the hotel we walked (yes, walked) to Universal Studio's City Walk. This is their nightclub, bar, movie, restaurant, entertainment area. Talk about assaulting the senses! The lights, noise, activity and smells were Manhattan on steroids minus the buses and taxis. There is stuff going on everywhere. It was amazing. We played it safe and ate dinner at Bubba Gumps - not bad at all.

Walking back to the hotel after dark was very peaceful. The landscaping around the parks is gorgeous. The weather last night was delightful and calm compared to Thursday night when it was very windy and rainy.
Back at the hotel we passed the bar on the way to our elevator and we spied Mel among a few others. I was happy to say hello to him and glad that he arrived safely. In a few hours we will get to see and hear him introduce the new doll. I'm excited!

I just found out about a few brand-new pieces of "BATMAN" Merchandise that looks pretty good. This is some stuff made by Westland.

The 1st item is a totally beautiful Ceramic Cookie Jar of THE JOKER showing you his Business Card!! Yes, you can store your favorite treats inside the Prince of Crime, ha ha ha ha! It will retail for about $45.00 and you can look for it around May 2013.

Next up are 2 Sets of Salt and Pepper Shakers. One set shows the Caped Crusader and the Joker in the heat of battle while the 2nd pair is the Dynamic Duo of Batman and Robin riding their Bat-Cycles! These will have a suggested retail price around $15.00, not bad. These pieces, also, come out in May 2013.

  • 04/13/13--11:28: Mattel’s MOTUC Snake Face
  •  Cold-blooded and even more cold-hearted, this sinister serpent turns his enemies to stone, then slithers away without a second thought! Snake Face™ may be able to disguise his true nature for a short time, but eventually he will reveal his hideous face, so this fan-demanded figure arrives with interchangeable “snakes in and snakes out” look. I started to notice a bunch of cool Batgirl stuff lately and thought it would be a good post. Here's a nice assortment of pics showing off our favorite Batman Family member.

First up is an image I came across that haunts me. This was a very Large Fine Art Print they used to sell at the Warner Bros Store many many years ago ( I wish they would have never closed, arrgghh! ). I have always loved it and I always regret the time I had a chance to buy it on sale, but didn't. Yes, I'm a complete Idiot, ha!

Now, here's a wonderful photo worth celebrating because this is almost the highest form of flattery to the character. Wow! Just look at this amazing Silver-Age Batgirl costume some serious Cosplay person put together. The details and materials are all totally great!

Here's a cool graphic a nice friend shared with me on Facebook.  It's Batgirl riding a Vintage Vespa Scooter! Oh man, it's so beautiful!! The Artist is a guy named Ted Naifeh. This guy has talent for sure.

Next up is another Cosplayer who we just gotta give props to. Actually, this is our good friend Lisa and she's wearing an awesome Retro-Style Batgirl Costume. It's the "Yvonne Craig" version from the Classic 1966 BATMAN TV Series.

One last thing: Here's a fun collectible item I saw last night on the web. This is a very cool Ceramic Coffee Mug featuring Silver-Age BATGIRL Graphics. I need this... and totally love it! They sell these at the link provided down below.

It’s almost Mother’s Day! I always have the best intentions to send all the women who have impacted my life cards on Mother’s Day but somehow I always fail miserably. Usually I buy the cards but the stamps and everything – somehow it just never happens. This year thanks to Cardstore... [Continue Reading]

The latest additions to Eaglemoss's Justice League chess set, Batman (white knight) and Deadshot (black pawn), are now available for pre-order.

Batman seemed something of a shoo-in for a white knight, given his "Dark Knight" moniker. However, collectors that feel Batman deserves the king rank (and, honestly, it's a good role for him) could also substitute in one of the white king Batman figurines from his own set. Otherwise, Eaglemoss did a fairly solid job here.

Deadshot, being an assassin-for-hire, is a natural pawn. He's also well-known enough to warrant inclusion into this sort of a set. That set, I still can't believe that DC threw out his more iconic outfit for something that looks even goofier (I mean, what's the point?). I may not be enthusiastic for this figurine but it's a matter of design on DC Comics' end rather than Eaglemoss's.

Batman and Deadshot are both due out in August.

The holiday may be over, but no one told the fashionably late Rias Gremory, ready to arrive in the most Eastery of costumes. To be honest I thought this was from FREEing at a glance, adding yet another lady to their stable of bunnygirls, but it seems like Griffon is getting in on the act instead. It's hard to blame them for running with such an easy market, though!

Besides, given her nature, Rias suits the sexy bunnygirl outfit quite well compared to some odder choices we've seen, though the odd mix of demonic traits and the "innocence" of a sexy bunnygirl is a little curious. Her wings definitely add a unique flair, giving her almost a Darkstalkers vibe when paired with the costume's leotard. If you'd like her to hop over to your collection, fork over about ¥7,980 before her June arrival.

If there's one recent show I won't mind seeing figures of for a long time to come, it's the lovely slice-of-life Tari Tari. While it may be a simple, mundane show, the fantastically attractive art design is easily appreciated, and Wave is continuing to jump on the bandwagon with two new Beach Queens of series leads Wakana and Sawa.

Thankfully Wave also saw fit to include our lovely heroines in their canon swimsuits seen in the series itself, replicated down to the blossom design on Sawa's top. Needless to say I find the pair quite desirable, especially given the fact they're my two favorite cast members. I will admit they're not the finest quality Beach Queens I've seen from Wave, particularly in the modeling of Sawa's bust--because naturally I notice these things.

Nonetheless, they're certainly must haves for series fans, and certainly attractive enough that others may want to give them a look as well. Both will set you back around ¥3,800 a piece, and they'll be arriving in September.

Despite a similar name and hailing from the same creator, the fairly well done Katanagatari hasn't quite reached the level of fame as the infamous Bakemonogatari and its ilk, which is a bit of a shame. Despite this, Ques Q has decided to re-release their figure of main character Kisakushi Togame, which is a big plus if you missed it the first time around!

The major detail about Katanagatari happens to be its extremely unique but appealing art style, and Ques Q captured Togame's design faithfully in their rendition. Of course, I like it quite a lot, and she certainly stands out on the shelves amongst more typical looking characters. You'll also get multiple face and hair options, if for some reason her flowing white locks are too long for your tastes.

She'll be arriving in June for only around ¥6,800, so get ready to snap her up lest she be missed a second time!

K-ON cushion covers - which you take?

    Fate Zero goodies.

How many of you read the K-ON! Manga too?

    Even figures need to go.

GoPro rival ADIXXION. One thing I dislike about my GoPro is that if you dont use it for a while, you forget all the button combinations. At least the ADIXXION has a decent amount of buttons on it.
    See a comparison review below.

Prices of TV's here not that fantastic. If you are buying electronics in Japan then always look on Kakaku.com first. You can find a 32" Toshiba Regza for 32,480 yen.

How many of you upgraded to Windows 8?
There is a poll embedded in this article.

If you have just moved to Japan, you will need a load of kitchen electronics - let the staff know that you are going to buy a ton from them but that you require a discount - only usually works this way if you buy a load of stuff from them in one go.

    Hina dolls.

My lord has been looking for me...

I better stop dancing and get back to work.

My Gunpla skills acquired over the years are being put to use in a different way.

    Vocaloid merchandise.

How many of you are into Senran Kagura - either the anime or game or both?

A load of electronics can be found in Akihabara...

...as well as a load of robot stuff like on the 2nd floor of this branch of Tsukumo.

Fancy a kebab as I write this ><

The new location of the Kotobukiya store.
