Black Lightning HeroClixOne of the great things about HeroClix was being able to build a team of whatever characters you wanted. Case in point: I was always disappointed that in the late 70′s Black Lightning had turned down membership in the Justice League of America. HeroClix gave me the chance to build a team of Superman, Batman, [...]

OK, We knew we had to share this super-fun Batman Video because it's really sweet. Our friend, Benjy Greenberg, surprised his Mother recently at her 80th Birthday Party. He came into the event dressed as the JOKER from the Classic 1966 TV Series, Cesar Romero-style! Her family and friends were all quite surprised too... WOW! what a fun thing to do! She looks like a nice lady and I bet this totally made her day.

Happy Birthday Benjy's Mom!!

Free Return Ticket To Japan - Details

0
0

This photo taken by comrades at Thailand Culture Japan Night last month.
Last August, I announced that I would give away 1 free return ticket to Japan to 1 reader who pre-ordered Nendoroid Mirai Suenaga. I was going to post details earlier but many said that they still had not received their Mirai yet. Unfortunately, the majority are waiting and if you still have not got yours then please forgive me - I did mention that you should have ordered from a reputable retailer who would have probably sent your Mirai sooner rather than later.

Submission Rules

  • You must have pre-ordered Mirai Nendoroid before the 18th of September 2012.
  • You will have a pre-order confirmation from the online retailer that you bought her from - you will need to send this to me if your entry is chosen and it *must* show that you pre-ordered your Mirai Nendoroid before September 18th 2012. I will know whether anybody tampered with the confirmation mail ^^;
  • If you pre-ordered from a local retailer - ask them to give you proof of when you pre-ordered your Mirai - either by mail or in writing.
  • If you have lost your receipt then it is your responsibility to gain proof if you are chosen.
  • Once you get hold of your Mirai Nendoroid, take a photo and upload to your Facebook wall or Twitter. The photo you take of Mirai does not have to be anything fancy - just proof that you took her out of the box.
  • I noticed that many of you have already shared photos. If you still have the link then paste it in the comments below so that I can keep track. If you dont have the link then just re-upload the photos.
  • f you share (or have already shared) on Figure.fm, Deviantart or Flickr then thanks! But for this giveaway I would like you to share on Twitter or Facebook (or both) - just grab the link to your photo and then paste in the comments below.
  • You have got one week from now until the 3rd of March to submit your entries. I will choose 1 entry at random and give that person a free ticket to Japan.
  • The giveaway is simple - take a photo of Mirai out of her box and post it on Facebook or Twitter - then grab the link and paste in the comments below.
  • If you are sharing on Facebook then it should be on your wall - not mine!
  • If you are sharing on Twitter then please add the url http://mirai.fm to your tweet
  • The winner will be contacted by the email that they used to register an account on this site.
  • If the winner does not respond within 1 week to the mail I send, somebody else will be chosen at random.
  • The deadline is 2013 3rd March 11:59PM JST. If you don't manage to upload your photo by that date then it means that god does not want you to go to Japan.
  • If you missed or found out about this giveaway after the deadline but bought your Mirai Nendoroid before September the 18th then it looks like god does not want you to go to Japan on this giveaway.
  • This giveaway is not applicable for folks who pre-ordered after September 18th 2012. Folks who bought Mirai after she was released will also not be applicable - but thank you!
  • This giveaway is to say thanks to those who showed their support during the pre-order phase as that determines the manufacture run.
  • Its only fair that anybody who pre-ordered before September 18th gets a chance to win - even those who have been to Japan before or are planning to visit anyway.
  • This contest is governed by Japanese law where I'm located - so the "no purchase necessary" thing does not apply to this contest.

About your Free Return Ticket to Japan

  • I'm paying for only one (1) return plane ticket.
  • You choose when you want to come but you must travel during 2013 - I'm not sure if I will live to past 2013 and want to make sure you travel while I'm still alive so that I can sort out your ticket and meet you.
  • We will choose the airline you travel by - I won't purposely go for the cheapest ticket and make you transfer 20 times but I won't go for the most expensive either. Will choose the route that makes the most sense.
  • Once your ticket is booked, I will issue you an e-ticket. You then need to apply for a visa yourself depending on your nationality.
  • If for whatever reason you cant get hold of a visa then its a message from god - the ticket will be cancelled and given to another reader who will be chosen at random. Many nationalities are issued with a 3 month tourist visa on entry to Japan - ask Google Sensei to see if you are applicable.
  • The person flying gets the air miles.
  • You can give the ticket to a friend or family member - but you can't sell it!
  • Ticket is to Japan only.
  • No you cant have the money instead. If for whatever reason you cant travel to Japan then I will give the ticket to another reader who will be chosen at random.
  • I only cover an economy plane ticket - you need to look after your own lodging - check out this list of recommended places to stay in Tokyo.
  • Destination is Tokyo (Narita or Haneda) but if you want to travel on to Osaka, Kyoto etc then you need to pay for yourself - prepare a Japan Rail Pass before you come.
  • If I'm not overseas at the time you want to come over, I'll bring you to my office and take you around Akihabara - and maybe visit some of my client offices like Good Smile Company.
  • Do not overstay in Japan - if you do then its nothing to do with me!
  • If you are a university graduate, can speak some Japanese and have graphical skills such as Photoshop/Illustrator, editing skills such as Final Cut Pro then I can introduce you to some of my clients who may be interested in hiring you - although I only show you the door - its up to you to walk through it. Check out my profile to see who some of my clients are which include Konami, Kadokawa, Ascii Media Works, Bushiroad, Good Smile Company, Production IG and more - mostly anime and game companies though if you like that sort of thing (like I do ) ^o^

I think thats about it! Keep an eye on my Facebook and Twitter. I'll be retweeting some entries not it may not necessarily mean that you have won. I'll choose a winner and announce on Facebook/Twitter then on this site.

Arms Installation is Complete - Good Luck!

Ah, one more thing - there is a bug in the way links are parsed in the comments - sometimes they are clickable and sometimes not. I'll fix but for now I'll just copy past any links that are not clickable ><

Desk Diary 2013/02

0
0

Lack of time to sit down and write means that its once again been ages since the last Desk Diary ^^; Been traveling a bit since we last spoke - went to New York for New York Comicon, Singapore for AFA, Malaysia for Comic Fiesta, Thai for Thailand Game Show, Malaysia again for business meetings and TV appearances and Singapore again for Manga Festival.
Have also been working on various projects including making my own Mirai-chan doll.

Once upon a time, I spent most of my time writing blog posts and then one day I said to myself "I dont want to be just sitting here writing blog posts for the rest of my life."
Since then, my business has expanded into many fields and I hardly get time to sit down anymore to write ><
So - be careful for what you wish for because if you make it a need then you will make it happen.

Anyway, today we take a look around the office to see what has changed since last time.

Christmas came and went in a flash. Time is moving quicker for all of us as we get older. The same hour is different for all of us and this is the reason why - 1 year to a five year old is a 1/5th of their lifespan. 1 year to a twenty year old is 1/20th of their lifespan. Our perception on timespan changes as we get older.

We need to establish what we want to do in life as early as possible before time runs out. You may not discover what you want to do straight away but at least you have set out to establish whats right for you. Start today - not tomorrow or before you know it you will start to regret that you dont have enough time left.

My collection of daughters has grown to 10 >< Not all are Volks though.

This lovely lady is a BJD from Iple House - I need to get her more decent clothes. No name for her yet though.

Stuck up the posters that we sold at Comic Fiesta and Thailand Game Show.

These posters were priced cheaper than the ones we sold at Singapore because they were printed on more cost effective paper - perhaps a bit too thin though. The ones in Singapore were printed on high grade paper which was a bit overkill as the printer made them waterproof @.@
We are learning a lot as we start to manufacture our own products and aim to reach optimum quality and price range.

Mirai in her Solar Marine uniform illustrated by Piromizu-sensei.

Kanata, Mirai and Haruka in their Solar Marine uniforms. Wallpapers of this illustration lives here.

Mirai in her Winter uniform illustrated by Iizuki Tasuku-sensei.

Mirai in her Solar Marine uniform illustrated by Koku-sensei.

Haruka, Mirai and Kanata illustrated bu Iizuki Tasuku-sensei.

The Moecalendar illustrated by Ikkyuu-sensei. This was only sold at Comic Fiesta but I'm giving out the full res wallpaper of each month at the beginning of every month.

Time to dust off the figures - if you dont then not only do they gather dust but the dust gathers oil particles which is why you may notice that some of your figures feel sticky which then damages the paint ><

I use a big fluffy thing for large amounts of dust then a cooking brush from the 100 yen shop for the actual figure. Dont mix brushes and always wash the brush after a while or you would be brushing dirt onto the figure.

Need to take all the figures off the shelves to dust them properly and also to dust the actual shelves.

1/7 scale Alisa Ilyinichna Omela [アリサ・イリーニチナ・アミエーラ] from God Eater Burst. I still owe you a review ><
Latest PV for God Eater 2 for the PSP/Vita below.

Figures keep falling from the ceiling - this one is Kotobukiya Inia. So cute.

More ceiling figures - Kotobukiya Kirino.

Miku Cheerful version.

Still one of my fave figma's - Mikuru Maid.

Max Factory Menma - facing the other way because shes got a cute bottle.

Rearranged the figures in no particular order.

Saber in Mirai's OL uniform made by Chun who makes great doll apparel - ping her if you need to commission something.

One of the SQLab girls - I picked her up when in Korea last year - still no name for her either.

I seem to take Yuki-chan around with me the most so that probably means shes my fave ^o^

Ryomo in Solar Marine uniform complete with her Millennium Blade which was made by Kazuki-san.

Brought back the second display to help me manage the various sensei that I work with - easier to have skype on one display with artwork on the other.

Here you can see the display arm that I use - picked up from Amazon which was 4,980 yen at the time.

If you are attaching a display arm on a glass desk then I recommend that you stick a piece of wood like this in the clamp for support - would not want the glass to crack.

Still a load of cables below the desk but not as bad as before.

All my precious data is stored on this 2TB HDD by Buffalo. When I first started computing on a Windows machine many moons ago, I experienced lots of data loss due to viruses or hardware failure. I learned that having precious data on the same drive as the system was too risky so ever since, my data has always been on a separate drive - even after switching to Mac.

With my data on this external HDD, when I travel abroad (which is once a month), I just unplug and plug into my MacBook Air. The data is regularly backed up to another external drive and also on cloud storage at Amazon S3. It costs about 60 USD per month to store 1TB of data.

60 USD may sound a lot but just imagine you lost all your family photos and videos - or even worse - your hentai_archive.zip. You would probably pay anything to get it all back right?
Its important to have redundant copies of your data on and off site. If anything happens to your house, you will have peace of mind that your data is safe and encrypted on the cloud.
What sort of data backup workflows do you have that you can share with us?

Anyway, the HDD is stored on the back of the iMac by a cheap alternative to the iMac BackPack - its just a deck box (just like the Mirai Carry Cases) taped to the back.

The Fiio E10 USB DAC/Amp for my iMac (about 7,800 yen). Mentioned it last time for folks who dont know what it is.

Did you know that Logitech is called Logicool in Japan? This is probably because there is another company in Japan called Logitec - while the spelling is different, the katakana would be the same.

Have been working on my own home made doll using 3D rapid prototyping - you can read all about it here.

I need this for working on my doll. I had no idea that this was called a digital caliper. In Japanese its called Nogis (ノギス). Got this one from amazon.

Aoi-chan about to omnom on one of my fave Japanese sweets - Yukimi Daifuku. Hope she leaves some for me.
Check out the retro CM below.

My audio gear - Blue Snowball Microphone (which I reviewed here) and the Sony MDR-CD900ST studio monitor headphones. We used this microphone for all episodes of Culture Japan Season 2.

When not used for travelling, my Mirai carry-on is used as interior deco ^^;

Temporarily removed the Ita curtains while I think of a design for new ones.

Itamado was one of the few April Fools that I didn't follow through with due to low priority ><

Picked up a couple of stackable containers from Muji to store bits n pieces around the desk. My pet hate is loose items! I kinda like to have everything clean and tidy in a box.

Nice n tidy ^^

The Chop Saber by Kotobukiya has developed - now takes batteries and glows.

As you know from reading through past Desk Diary's, we moved up from the first floor and now the office joins onto the lounge area.

Most TV's in Japan come with a TV schedule where you can record your fave anime and wot not.

Anime like Minamike!

This is the other side of my office behind my back.

Folks ask me "What does your wife think about you using an oppai mousepad?"
My answer is "Well she uses one herself and was the product manager for the project - what do you think?"

We have various staff members located all over the place. When they are in the office they sit here.

Most of the 3D work we do is on Windows which we installed on this iMac using bootcamp.

The glass slab on the table is the Vika from Ikea. Using lights below tables makes the room feel bigger as they illuminate the dark areas in the room. When used below glass tables, the place looks even more spacious.
How many of you use glass tables at your main workspace?

I wonder whats in store for the office this year.

Been using the GoPro Hero a bit lately to film some footage from my Itachari - videos up at YouTube.

I love retro mecha designs.

Mirai Summer School uniform on sale now - but for those who cant afford it - I'm preparing the patterns for you so that you can make your own - patterns distributed for free.

Figures and plants go well with each other.

Before I die, I want to make this into a product to stick on your glasses.

This is about the only stationary we have in the office on the 2nd floor. We try to keep paper down to a minimum.

With wifey in Japan, US and France.

The growing Mirai Suenaga Shrine of products.

How many of these do you own?

I still have not got round to doing the decals on the Mirai Itasha ><

Mirai Suenaga Nendoroid - your Japanese language learning talisman - mine was a poster of Shinjuku.

Mirai Card sleeves.

My earthquake detection system.

Black Rock Shooter White Edition with my clone -.-

Another Inia figure this time by Skytube - thanks to comrades at Hobby Search for sending her over!

New video equipment - got it for filming Culture Japan Season 3. I wanted a more movie like look and feel that we had in Japan Mode but didn't want the hassle of using a DSLR for filming - the NEX-VG30 enables me to use my existing E-mount lenses and a variety of industrial sound equipment too. It also has video stabilisation which DLSR's dont come with. Took a load of photos and hope to get a review out soon-ish ><

Most popular illustrators in Japan also do eroge stuff so I need to keep myself in the loop with the popular and up n coming artists and decide who could potentially come up with a cute illustration of our Mirai-chan - and that was the long excuse for having an eroge mag in the office ^^;

As for the inside - so many cute girls! J-List has a decent collection which they ship worldwide.
How many of you are knowledgeable with the latest eroge? If you are then let me know! We should talk business.

Our internal office phones.

Reina-chan is still nekkid from having her clothes taken around the world by Yuki-chan ><

The otaku's best friend - tissue. But it looks cooler when its military style. Got this from Amazon for 1,890 yen.

This is what it looks like inside - you can stick in other bits n bobs too.

Attached one of these electrical taps to the bottom shelf of the table which I use just for the camera adapters. Wifey has a Canon adapter (not pictured here) that goes on the left.

Business trips for this year include Malaysia (a few more times this year), Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan, Los Angeles, New York, Singapore. Possibly Dubai and somewhere in Europe too.

The VT-1 is still my all time fave Valkyrie.

Small plushie gift from a reader - cant remember who gave me this - lemme know if it was you ><

Mirai Nendoroid! I need to announce details of the free return ticket to Japan - I'll do it later today.

Jaina Solo by Kotobukiya - I've taken a load of photos already - just need to find time to post the review ToT.

Doll sized Vitasoy - prezzie from Avan. Its also a magnet which I use to cover the camera on the iMac as you never know who is watching you.

Krating Daeng - commonly known as Red Bull. Did you know that it originated in Thailand?

I nearly got injured when this lot fell from the ceiling.

Sorting through some of the passes I've collected on my visits to anime events worldwide.

Thats its for now! Will try not to leave it too late until the next instalment ><

And in the meantime you can have a look at previous Desk Diary posts to see what the office used to look like many moons ago.

Simple toys surprise tech-savvy kids

Children accustomed to video games find challenging play things at Sigal Museum in Easton. Without the technology that has become so much a part of their lives, more than a dozen kids got a taste of what play time was like during Colonial times on Saturday at Easton's Sigal Museum.

I Live in Weeaboo City, Florida

Not really. But Orlando is pretty up on Wapan and the Wapanese culture. It all just kinda comes together at Epcot.

These photos are from a store located inside of Epcot’s World Showcase in the Japan pavilion. I snapped some photos tonight since I realize not everyone in the world gets a chance to go to Epcot, let alone Disney, as much as I do.

(I’ve got a year pass, and before you call me ‘lucky,’ realize that they cost $400 and I had to save up for a while to actually achieve it. Also, I’m not ‘lucky,’ for living next to Disney as Orlando is a terrible city.)

The store that sells these items is actually a real department store called Mitsukoshi. The store mainly exists on the east side of the world, with locations in Japan (where it originated from), Korea, Hong Kong, and China, with a few locations in Europe. The sole Mitsukoshi store that exists in all of North America is only at Disney’s Epcot in the Japan pavilion.

So it’s no wonder why so many weeaboos come to Epcot daily. And no, I don’t mean tourists who are interested in looking at Pocky all day, but I mean local/Floridian weeaboos. They really do exist there — I’ve seen them, and they come to Epcot pretty often.

There is a handful of kids who walk around the Japan pavilion and hang out there all day, spending tourist prices on Ramune and rocking their most stylish fedoras. Granted, I spend all day at Disney whenever I have the chance, but I also visit its three other parks, and I don’t choose to consume wasabi peas for dinner every chance I get to go. To each his own, I guess. Enjoy the photos of some of the merch located Mitsukoshi at Epcot, as well as a portion of my Saturday night.

Hobby scans have the old as new for Gundam

Hobby scans have the old as new for Gundam screenshot

It seems like the old adage comes true, what was once old is new again. With the spring serving as an in-between time, there isn't that much in the way of new announcements. No crazy, out of nowhere Master Grades or HGUCs, just one very pleasant surprise in the way of the RX-78GP01 Zephyranthes being the next Real Grade 1/144 kit. With Destiny being the next RG being released, most thought the non-UC trend would continue. The GP-01 will break that trend with a release this July for 2,500¥.

Robot Damashii will also look to the past with their release of Gundam Heavyarms Kai this June. As to what makes it Kai, it is given an extra barrel for the gatling gun along with additional thrusters on the backpack. All of this will cost you 4,200¥. Did you want the original look, with just one barrel and a normal backpack? Well, too bad as that will be an add-on pack for the Bandai Premium Shop. It will be packed along with parts to take the Sandrock Kai back to normal and this will run you at least 2,310¥ when it's released in July.

There's some more things on the Premium Web Shop to get fussed over along with things to actually be excited over. Hit the jump for more items of interest from this month's scans!

As I mentioned, there are a couple of more web-only items that may make you a tad upset. The upcoming Real Grade Destiny Gundam will not come packed with the Wings of Light, an oversight I was miffed at. Making matters somewhat better and worse is that now those parts will only be available through Bandai Hobby Site. No release information has been given yet, but I can only imagine what the premium will be. Also coming to the web shop is the Robot Damashii x Ver. Ka Signature Gundam MkV. Again, no release data, but there are enough people who have been waiting for this and will go through any length to get it. In something that actually does have release info, a special version of Johnny Ridden's Zaku II will get a Master Grade based on the original Okawara detailing this May for 3,675¥.

For myself, I'm most excited about what's coming to SD. The BB Senshi Sazabi that has been leaked is now official and will be coming in May for 1,000¥. The fact they actually included gimmicks for the funnels and actual clear plastic for the beam tomahawk make me excited. Also, with the inclusion of SEED into the line, we get to see the Strike's various forms and the still strangely-titled Ryofu Tallgeese. The only reason I say it's strange is due to the fact it now resembles the Providence Gundam far more than Tallgeese. All I know is that I want a kit of all of these now.

Lastly in this month's scan are a pair of kits from Gundam SEED. The Aile Strike Gundam will be getting its 2.0 in the form of the Master Grade "HD version." The kit has definitely changed from the original release back in 2005, with the shoulder armor being the most visual difference. With the improvements that have been made, maybe it will be worth spending the 4,200¥ when it's released this May. Joining it that month will be the HG 1/144 Astray Blue Frame Second L. Being that the MG was not the form that many were used to, the HG favors those who fell in love with the first version. It will be made available in May for 1,700¥.
