Pre-order Kotobukiya's Misty from Shining Blade

Pre-order Kotobukiya's Misty from Shining Blade screenshot

Many of you may remember Alter's version of this dashing pirate Misty which we announced last December. Well, if she was a little too expensive for your taste, you should definately check out Kotobukiya's lovely take on this daring Pirate.

There is a lot to like about Misty's costume design. She has a long frilly dress with lots of ribbons and extras yet still shows a nice amount of leg, without over-doing it. In particular I like the heart with cross bones which is painted on the back side of her dress. Overall she is quite the looker. She even comes with a star stylized base which is simple, but much cooler than standard fair.

If you want her, Kotobukiya's Misty is expected to ship out in late July of this year and is expected to cost ¥9200 yen, but of course will cost less at our favorite Japanese retailers.

Have some more Hobby Maker Exhibition photos screenshot

Mikatan grabbed a few photos from Hobby Maker Exhibition, mostly centered around Good Smile and its closely affiliated companies. Danny Choo has posted some photos as well. However, he grabbed a few more photos of companies Mikatan did not. In particular, those include:

  • Penguin Parade and their Pettanko line; the big highlight of their little area was the Madoka Pettanko set. Kyuubey is coming out in March, yet somehow, this is the first time I've seen him at an event;
  • Wave and its Beach Queens line; if you look close enough, you can see the one new prototype I spotted, Idolm@ster's Akizuki Ritsuko;
  • Medicom's Real Action Heroes offerings, which include Saber, Mirai Nikki's Gasai Yuno, and all of the Madoka girls. Madoka is already out but the other girls are coming this year.
  • Wing's offerings include two S.K. series figures in the form of Misaka Mikoto and Sword Art Online's Asuna. They've also got two figures of Border Break's Fiona, one of which (in the header) is a Shunya Yamashita design;
  • Gift and Kaiyodo's latest releases and reveals. Yes, that's the Revoltech Tumbler from the Nolanverse Batman films.
  • Phat! Company has a 1/8-scale figure of Tari Tari's Sawa Okita on the way in a lovely dress, plus  poseable figures from an unnamed line featuring Aegis and Saber.

Check out the gallery for a sampling of the photos and let us know if you see anything that catches your eye!

Medicom rolling out a RAH Hatsune Miku for 2013

Medicom rolling out a RAH Hatsune Miku for 2013 screenshot

There seems to be a never-ending chain of surprises still coming out from last week's Wonder Festival, and the latest of those would be the reveal of a Real Action Heroes Hatsune Miku figure. Produced by Medicom Toy with a face sculpt from Good Smile, all under the Sega banner, Miku is set to come sometime in 2013 and appears to be have a similar articulation set-up to all the other RAH figures. Also perhaps borrowing from other poseable Miku releases, her twintails will be jointed where they meet her head.

Beyond that base info, we don't have anything. I'm not sure I like the mixed-media look on Miku, with her hair plastic and her clothing not, but perhaps you feel a little differently. Let us know what you think in the comments!

Am continuing to increase the amount of figure manufacturers that I work with to bring you more figure coverage right from their den. Today we head to the HQ of Alphamax in Akihabara to take photos of their up n coming bikini figure of Golden Darkness - also known as Konjiki no Yami [金色の闇] from the anime To Love-ru.

1/7 scale Yami is due out this July and will retail for 7,400 yen. Folks interested in pre-ordering can do so from one of the following trusted online retailers.

Those who are not familiar with Yami can see her in action below.

Not exactly sure whats going on here but it could be that she misplaced her phone and is looking in her bikini bottoms to see if its there.

And this is what she would look like on yer desk.
There is a poll embedded in this article.

It's time for second chances with this skimpy Tamaki

It's time for second chances with this skimpy Tamaki screenshot

Griffon proves once again that you can never have too many Tamakis, providing heartbroken fans with the chance to pick up a rather scantily clad version that may have been missed during her first release. I know I'd certainly love to get my hands on her, being the rare combination of a Tamaki that is both rather revealing and not over the top with proportions.

Instead, we get the curvy Miss Kousaka seemingly taking a break after school, stripped down to undergarments and her uniform top rather enticingly in the process of being shrugged off. I'm not the biggest fan of her expression, seeming a bit emotionless for the pose in question, but overall she looks like a great addition to a collection. She'll be available in May for about ¥6,800.

Cryska Barchenowa [クリスカ・ビャーチェノワ] is one of the main character in the series Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse. She is a pilot with overwhelming combat ability who belongs to the Soviet Union's experimental Idar Test Flight. She's getting the figurization treatment by Kotobukiya.

She's not out until May but I managed to nab one from the Kotobukiya HQ ^^;

Absolutely gorgeous curvy figure.

And for those who are not familiar with Cryska or Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse then check her out in action in the video below. If the video has been eaten then check out this search query on YouTube.

If you are interested in pre-ordering Asuna then check out the following trusted online retailers.

A lot of attention given to detail.

Awesome sculpt work going on here.

Taylored Curiosities' Monster Embryos grow for ToyCon UK screenshot

If you were ever a fan of Taylored Curiosities' resin Monster Embryos, but wanted them just a little bit bigger ... you're about to get more than you asked for. As a special treat for ToyCon UK, Taylored Curiosities has partnered with Creo Design to create Giant Monster Embryos, an 6-inch-by-8-inch version of the 1.2-inch regular figures. They're made of solid resin and 10 of the blue colorway will be available at the Taylored Curiosities ToyCon UK booth for £225 each.

Of course, there's a little more to the story; eight of these Giant Monster Embryos are being customized. Two of them — by Ume Toys and Stitches and Glue — can be seen in the gallery. Five others — by Lisa Rae Hansen, Matt ‘Lunartik’ Jones, NERVISWR3K, Loz Boz, and Creo — will be done in time for ToyCon. The final one by Jon Paul Kaiser will be done live at the show itself, and they should all be purchasable, too.
