Ditsy Daisy Hawk - New Handmade Softie Doll and E-Pattern

The "Egg Muff's" are a fun loving group of dolls that love to sneak around and maybe, every once in awhile, drop in unexpectedly. And, the Toni E. Hawk and her brother, Tom A. Hawk, are the most fun loving of the group. You might find then peaking around a corner, peaking over the windowsill, peaking through a keyhole in a door, or sneaking into your room. You just never know. Sometimes you might just catch a glimpse of their eyes and hair as they try to sneak a peak. If you listen carefully, you might even hear them laughing, even chuckling away. Sometimes you might even catch them doing a little jig. You just never know what they may do. They love to laugh. They love to have fun. But, most of all they love to play hide and peak! No, not hide and seek! Hide and peak!

Ditsy Daisy Hawk is the 3rd oldest of the 11 children in the Hawk family and most assuredly the "ditsiest" of all the Hawk's eleven children. You can hardly blame her given she was born after the twins - Tom A. Hawk and Toni E. Hawk. Growing up just behind those mischievous two was anything but easy. For a long time she bore the brunt of their jokes.

Ditsy Daisy Hawk is an 8" squared bottomed self-standing wool felt softie doll. She has a 1/2 white felt and 1/2 dark purple felt body. Her face is outlined and embroidered and she has large satin stitched eyes. Her nose is pointy and embroidered as is her mouth, eyelashes and eyebrows. She has pink blushed cheeks.

Ditsy Daisy Hawk has a mass of burgundy hair along the side seams of her head with the back of her head left bald. She is wearing her favorite light purple felt shirt with matching felt collar and favorite light pink felt vest. A matching light pink felt bow looks wonderful under her chin.  She has four light pink bows in her hair.

Ditsy Daisy Hawk has had more than her fair share of pranks pulled on her by her older siblings and was ecstatic when she learned she was going to have a younger brother. Little did she know what a rascal he would be.

I HATE snow, but I LOVE snowmen and snow-ladies. So, its no surprise that I love to decorate my home during the winter season with some of the snow men and snow-ladies I have made. Some are my designs. Some are dolls I made based on other doll makers designs.  I hope you enjoy my snowmen decorations.

On the left is a snowman I call "Charlie" and he was made based upon a "From My Heart To Yours" pattern. He stands 30" tall. His wool hat was one of my old ones and his flannel scarf was made from one of my younger brothers old flannel shirts.

On the right is Snow Go Noodles. He's one of my designs and is a 28" country snowman decoration. His e-pattern can be purchased HERE and his handmade snowman doll can be purchased HERE.

On the left is Nellie Snow-lady. She's one of my designs and is a 23" snow-lady doll. Her e-pattern can be purchased HERE and her handmade doll can be purchased HERE.

On the left is "Sam, The Skiing Snowman." Hubby and I stenciled and painted his ski's. He stands 36" tall and was made based upon a "Maggie Ann & Friends" pattern. Planet Iacon have posted an interesting image of a Transformers Super Deformed Ultra Magnus action figure that may or may not be an official product. Marked with copyright "(C) Tomy" on the picture, we see what is a rather handsome metallic looking robot and alternate mode figures. Its not clear if this is official product or not, likely not, so we'll have to wait and see where this thing appears for sale. Check out the image of Transformers Super Deformed Ultra Magnus below.

Steiff's Very Own Baby Boomer Bears

Anyone out there need a Teddy hug? Chances are, if you are reading this blog, your answer is a resounding YES! It goes without saying that Steiffgal loves Steiff's remarkable bears. But did you know that some of her favorite models are not all that terribly old - from the 1950’s and early 1960’s? The Baby Boomer Bears!  During these decades, Steiff experienced a really breakthrough period in terms of creativity. And why was this? The company was just about back on its feet after the war, its global distribution infrastructure was improving, and collectors and enthusiasts were demanding – and purchasing – playful and innovative new items. Let's take a look at some Steiff bears from this fertile time frame and see what makes them so special from the design and collector’s perspectives.

This first Steiff "Baby Boomer" bear is one tall drink of water. Zolac is five ways jointed and 40 cm tall, with his legs claiming about half that height! His head and body are made from shaggy caramel tipped mohair, while his feet, hands, and bib are detailed with apricot colored mohair. He has an open felt lined mouth, brown pupil eyes, and a hand stitched nose. Zolac is the hybrid of two very well know Steiff legacy designs – the shaggy “Zotty” bear pattern introduced in 1951, and the “lulac” style introduced in 1952. Zolac was only made from 1964 through 1966.

Our next fine furry friend is one of the hardest to find and most desirable post WWll Steiff bears produced. His name is Zooby Zoo Bear; he is 28 cm and head and arm jointed. He is made from tan mohair and has brown mohair feet. Zooby has brown and black pupil eyes, a shorter mohair muzzle, a brown embroidered nose, and an open peach felt lined mouth. His claws are made from white felt. He is self-standing; the soles of his feet are made from a brown leather-like material. Zooby was only made in 1964 and 1966. From a historical perspective, Zooby’s design is based somewhat on Steiff’s pre-war Zirkus-Baer or Circus Bear, a 32 cm standing bear produced from 1935 through 1939.

Now it is time to check out the bear many collector's consider to be Steiff's "First Lady." Here we have two fine examples of Steiff's Jackie bear design - one in 17 cm and one in 25 cm.  These beauties are five ways jointed and made from blond mohair. Their faces are detailed with brown and black pupil eyes and a brown hand embroidered nose and mouth. All Jackie bears have peach colored felt paw and foot pads, and a distinctly "portly" appearance: a short, stocky body; chunky, minimally curved limbs; and no breaks indicating their wrists. In terms of Steiff ID, every Jackie was labeled with a "raised script" style Steiff button, yellow ear flag, made in the US Zone tag, and special chest tag that read "Jackie Jubilee-Teddy 1903 - 50 - 1953. Overall, this pattern was produced in 17, 25, 35, and 75 cm from 1953 through 1955 only.

It's easy to get blinded by the light - or in this case the white - when it comes to our next Baby Boomer bear design. Here we have a pair of Steiff's most unusual, and most desirable white Zotty bears. They are five ways jointed and made from very shaggy white mohair. Each has a peach colored mohair bib, peach felt paw pads, and a happy, smiling felt lined open mouth. Most collectors are quite familiar with his classic caramel mohair cousins - who appeared in 9 sizes and were beloved constants in the Steiff line from 1951 through 1978. On the other hand, these white wonders were only produced in 1960 and 1961 in 28 and 35 cm.

And finally, although technically not a "bear," most collectors welcome Steiff's Koala bears with great enthusiasm into their hugs.   This particular example is 35 cm and made from tan and light tan mohair. He is five ways jointed and has mohair hands and feet that are quite detailed, with full digits noted. His chubby legs curve outward, and he almost looks to be in a yoga position as he sits. His face is detailed with black and brown pupil eyes, an open, felt lined mouth, and an inlaid grey felt nose. This pattern was made in 12 22, and 35 cm from 1955 though 1961; the smallest one is somewhat common, but the 22 and 35 cm versions are considered quite rare and desirable from the collector’s perspective. This was the first koala bear ever produced by Steiff.

Steiffgal hopes that this review of some of Steiff's Baby Boomer bears has brought you to a happy and peaceful place.

Tallest Robot Lantern in the World Exists

This isn’t a Gundam or a real/fake robot. It’s just a lantern. Just a sweet ass 12 meter tall, 2.5 light up massive robot lantern. It’s the tallest robot lantern in existence, and it’s being stood up in Shuzhou, China. And it’s pretty damn cool.

Great Micro-short Documentary on Minecraft and Kids

Britt McTammany brings us a compelling and beautifully shot micro-short on Minecraft and how it brings gamers, particularly younger kids, together. It’s incredible to see how well the young subjects of the documentary work together to achieve a common goal.

This short raises a lot of interesting things about Minecraft and make me want to see more. Hopefully, the subject can be tackled by Britt in a longer format.

OK, This is not an official "Batman Hollywood Film" Car, but Johnny Lightning will be releasing a new car in it's "Forever 64 series R27" toy line in 2013 that looks almost exactly like the JOKER GOON CAR from the 1989 BATMAN Movie. This thing has just surfaced on eBay so it's probably in stores right now. It's actually a 1977 Dodge Monaco... Hey, check out those bullet holes, a nice touch, ha ha! (Thanks Steve)

New BATMAN Goodies From Dollar Tree!

Some of us serious BATMAN Toy Collectors are on a tight budget. So, this post should help, ha ha! The other night I was visiting my local Dollar Tree Store to pick-up a few cleaning supplies. But while I was there I noticed a few Batman items I had not seen in awhile. Yes, some of these were previously released and some are new. But they're all pretty neat.

First up, keep clean with BATMAN Body Wash! There are a few different scents to choose from that each have random graphics. I bought Gotham Grape and Power Punch!

Then, my favorite item I found, they have a long roll of "Batman Taffy Candy". I totally love the graphics on each individual wrapper. I'm also goo-goo for "Bat-Food Products" so thought  these were wonderful. They even include Scarecrow, Two-Face, and The Joker... very cool!

Last, but not least, it looks like they have released some more of those "Batman Magic Towels". These are actually small hand cloth wash rags that are compressed into very small cubes. When you throw them into water they magically "grow".
