Wonder Festival IDOLM@STER figma duo get a preview screenshot

The count down continues to the 2013 Wonder Festival (Winter) and Mikatan has turned her attention towards two of Max Factory's exclusives, figma Rin Shibuya and Anzu Futaba. Like many of the offerings this time around the pair hail from the hit game IDOLM@STER: Cinderella Girls. If you've read this month's DO WANT then you probably know I'm really looking forward to these two.

Starting with Rin Shibuya she seems to be the less popular of the two, but I find she has a lot of charm of her own. My hands-down favorite thing about this figure is that she can be posed to look like her hands are in her sweater pockets. That's a totally unique feature to this figure that really sets it apart from the rest. The other great feature is her little dog 'Hanako' on the leash. The leash itself  seems to be able to hold shapes as well which is perfect for posing. Looks like they really did a great job of capturing the character.

Then there's Anzu Futaba. Judging from people jumping on group orders she might be second most popular WF figure to be offered at the Good Smile Company store behind the latest Nendoroid Snow Miku, and for good reason. This really is one of the most adorable figma ever made. The expressions are perfect and it's probably hard to pose her without her looking cute. Mikatan translates the shirt as reading 'If you work, you lose' which certainly seems to fit her well. We're also given our first good look at the height difference, Anzu is a really short figure which probably just enhances her cuteness.

It's going to be a long wait until these ship in June baring any delays, but they'll be well worth it. I've already joined a group order so I'm committed, who's with me?

New image emerges for new SD Sazabi

New image emerges for new SD Sazabi screenshot

You may remember some time ago that the existence of a brand-new SD Sazabi was teased. While we only saw it from the back, we can now see it from the front. By the looks of things, I'm going to have to grab this new version.

For anyone who remembers building the older SD kits, they were just novelties. Cute proportions, but you had a lot of work to do to make it look anywhere close to decent. Plamo tech has gotten a lot better and you can see what went into this new Sazabi. For starters, it actually has decent articulation and the rifle is actually a respectable size. They took cues from the previous BB Senshi Shibai Sazabi and it's worked to finally get a decent SD Sazabi.

There's no word as to when this will become an official release, but I'd expect an announcement within the next month. I can't wait for it and I'm hoping this will also lead to a slew of new SD kits from Char's Counterattack

Devilish Cousin Andy Hawk - New Handmade Softie Doll and E-Pattern

The "Egg Muff's" are a fun loving group of dolls that love to sneak around and maybe, every once in awhile, drop in unexpectedly. And, the Toni E. Hawk and her brother, Tom A. Hawk, are the most fun loving of the group. You might find then peaking around a corner, peaking over the windowsill, peaking through a keyhole in a door, or sneaking into your room. You just never know. Sometimes you might just catch a glimpse of their eyes and hair as they try to sneak a peak. If you listen carefully, you might even hear them laughing, even chuckling away. Sometimes you might even catch them doing a little jig. You just never know what they may do. They love to laugh. They love to have fun. But, most of all they love to play hide and peak! No, not hide and seek! Hide and peak!

The "babies" of the Hawk family are Devilish Cousin Andy Hawk, Cousin Reginald Reggie Pinhead Hawk, and Cousin Hillary's Secret Hawk.  They are a trio of mischievous cousins that try their Aunt Nancy Dew Drops patience at times.  After baby sitting them for a few hours Aunt Nancy has a migraine and has to go home to rest.  That's when she leaves the baby sitting to Spike A Peek and that might actually be her mistakes as he tends to put ideas into the mischievous cousins little heads.  He is an "Egg Muff" after all.

Devilish Cousin Andy Hawk is a 3 12" squared bottomed self-standing wool felt softie doll. He has a 1/2 white felt and 1/2 black felt body. His face is outlined and embroidered and he has large satin stitched eyes. His nose is embroidered as is his mouth, eyelashes and eyebrows. He has orange blushed cheeks and a pink blushed mouth.

Devilish Cousin Andy Hawk has a red hair fashioned in a tomahawk style like his big brother Tom A. Hawk. He is wearing his favorite olive green felt shirt and favorite black felt vest. A black felt bow adds charm to i outfit.

Devilish Cousin Andy Hawk is always afraid he's going to get in trouble.  That's why he has a permanent "Yikes" expression on his face.

Black Elegance Belles - New Penny Rug Victorian Dress Picture Decorations E-Pattern

0

I just love Victorian Era dresses and also love creating penny rug pictures using wool felt and thought penny rug Victorian dress picture decorations would be nice. So, my Victorian Dresses Series was born.

Black Elegance Belles is an e-pattern to create a 5" by 7" Victorian wool felt dress picture in a 7" by 9" purchased picture frame with a Victorian dress in a penny rug style design.

Each felt dress overskirt piece is embroidered to the felt dress piece. Lace trims, seed beads, and other embellishments are sewn to the dresses and overskirt pieces.

The dress and dress back lining are blanket stitch embroidered along the edges.

The pattern can be made as just a penny rug wool felt blanket stitched picture or enclosed within a wall picture frame or tabletop picture frame.

The pattern includes text instructions, step-by-step color diagrams for finishing the penny rug dress pictures from start to finish, full page picture layout sheet,  and full page single sided pattern piece sheets. The pattern also includes step-by-step illustrations and instructions for Basic Blanket Stitching.

Celia's Wedding Dress E-Pattern Has Been Revised

0
0

I don't know if you remember the article I posted several years ago entitled "The Story Behind My Celia's Wedding Dress Doll" that was part of my "The Story Behind My Dolls" series.

To remind you, Celia and Elmer are my sister-in-laws parents and have been married for close to 60 years. Several years ago they were having a yard sale and Celia had told me I could have her wedding dress to use for material.

I asked her if she was really going to throw her wedding dress away and she replied, "What am I going to do with that old thing?" I told her maybe she should make a doll out of it for her daughter. At first she scoffed at the idea. Then when she'd thought about it, she replied,"That's a great idea. Why don't you do that for me and give it to my daughter." So, I told her I would add it to my to-do-list which was already getting to be multiple years to complete. I put it on the back burner.

After several years of being on the back burner I finally designed the doll and gave it to my sister-in-law for Christmas one year.

In designing the doll I wanted to capture the beauty of the dress. It didn't matter to me whether or not the doll had a face or was faceless. The point was the dress.

So, I sketched out a pattern for the dress and tried to use as much of the original material as I could. Luckily, the dress was still in pretty good shape, as was the veil. Some of the tulle had disintegrated but, a lot of it was pretty much in tact.

The dress had a lace bodice insert with lace sleeves, a satin heart-shaped bodice, a satin covered with lace front panel, and satin covered with fine tulle flowing skirt. The back of the dress had a very long train covered with tulle. There were buttons all along the front of the dress as well as straight up the back. The veil was a cap lined with small pearl beads that had a long section of tulle that would hang down the back and compliment the tulle on the train. The sleeves were scalloped and had a row of buttons as well. There were two layers of tulle underneath the dress as well. Needless to say there was a lot of tulle and a lot of detail on Celia's wedding dress.

Keeping in mind that the sentimentality lay with the dress I wanted the dress to be the focal point of the doll and nothing else. So I decided to make her a self standing, 14" tall, bridal stump doll without any legs. That way the dress would be showcased. I also wanted to utilize the original buttons for their sentimentality even though they were too big for the doll. I decided that three buttons in the front and two on each sleeve would be good.

When the doll was finished I wasn't really happy with her. I thought that I had captured the essence of the dress and, with the exception of the neck, it looked like Celia's real wedding dress. Plus for sentimental purposes it had the original buttons on it. But, I wasn't happy with the doll itself. I thought she turned out too short, her face wasn't quite right, and, whether I liked it or not, the collar was too big.

Over the years every time I looked at the doll I was unhappy with her face. So, this past fall I decided to re-do her face and revise her pattern.

Celia is a free-standing 14" bridal stump doll. She has a cloth body with an embroidered and water-colored face.

She has a long lace, satin, and tulle covered multiple 6-panel dress with a lace covered center front panel and tulle covered side, back, and train panels. A beautiful heart-shaped lace bodice with high lace covered neckline is embroidered with fancy lace trim and three lace covered buttons. Her dress has a beautiful long tulle covered flowing train and fancy lace trim adorns her waistline.

Lace covered puffed and lace trimmed long v-pointed sleeves are adorned with lace covered buttons. Pearl trim adorns both the neck line of the dress as well as the veil. A trio of lovely ribbon bows add charm to the top of the train at the back of the dress. Underneath her gown she is wearing a lace trimmed slip, under-slip, and tulle underskirt. She has fiery red hair adorned with a lace lined veil with flowing tulle.

She is carrying a bouquet of burgundy and white flowers with burgundy and white streamers.
