Break into song for this Gumi preview!
It's not odd to see a new Vocaloid figure, though with the multitudes of new characters showing up, it's hard to give them all due attention. Fortunately that's changing at least a little, as Aquamarine will be bringing us this upcoming Gumi, who looks just adorable.
Out of all the default, pre-Append Vocaloids, I've always loved Gumi's voice. I've always found it to sound very natural compared to many, though she's seemed to be less popular compared to characters like the Kagamines, Luka, or, naturally, Miku. I'm definitely glad to see her getting some PVC love, and it certainly captures her bright, sunny disposition and coloring!
There's no price set yet unfortunately, but it seems like a Summer release is planned--rather fitting for the character, to say the least. We'll certainly be keeping an eye out for any upcoming news!

Mechawhales could be nature's perfect killing machine
Hauke Sheer's creations are often the things of nightmares. It's no real secret that his unique design sense is 0often hard to get used to. Just take a look at his Facebook album or his deviantART gallery, you'll see what I mean. Though, I admit his Bathroom bots are strangely cute. The guy has been at this for a long time, I can remember visiting one of his early website in the mid '90s and reading his figure making and customizing tutorials. In the early days of DIY and indie figures he was something of an asset and he may have come up with his most accessible figure creation yet.
Hauke's Mechawhales combine cold-steel mecha sensibilities with some of the largest mammals on Earth. If the animations on the Mechawhales website is anything to go by it's a very deadly combination that translates well into fun mecha figures. For now only the main character is getting the figure treatment, but hopefully he moves on to others like the giant tank-treaded blue whale or the four-armed Orca Commando. The first PVC figure is about 3.5 inches tall with 5 points of articulation and can be pre-ordered from Big Bad Toy Store for US$44.99 with release sometime this month.
So what do you think? They remind me a lot of the old Marvel comic series Brute Force and that alone raises my interest, but I actually like the concept and think it could take Hauke further than his other ideas.
Enter the world of smart toys with Disney Infinity
Today, after much hinting and whispering on Disney fan pages, Disney's answer to Activision's Skylanders was unveiled. The series, Disney Infinity, utilizes figures of well-known Disney characters, like Toy Story's Woody and Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean films, and transports them to the virtual world via the Portal of Power -- I mean, Infinity base. From there, you can choose to play within "play sets," where you can participate in activities specific to a character's world, or enter "Toy Box mode," where you have the chance to mesh characters and worlds and even create your own games.
Like Skylanders, Disney Infinity will start out as a bundle of three characters, the Infinity base, and the game (available for Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U initially, followed by 3DS and mobile platforms), with additional figures available for purchase separately.
Are you excited about this new series, Tomoreaders? Are there any characters you'd like to see?
