Would you walk the plank for Shining Hearts' Misty?
The undeniable appeal of the Shining series continues with this upcoming pre-order from Alter, featuring Hearts' lovely pirate leader Mistral in all her frilly glory. While she might not strike up the image of a swashbuckler, with such a detailed outfit I'm not going to complain about it!
There's certainly a lot to love in Misty's design, from the large amount of detail in her dress, to the semblance of movement conveyed and the vivid, stand-out color choices used. Black and red almost always look good together, and so it is with Misty with some added white for good measure.
Alter's also gone the distance and foregone a simple base for one with a colorful blue splash reaching up Misty's leg, complementing some nice effects around her outstretched arm and umbrella, too. She's definitely a great example of how Shining figures manage to range from simplistic to very complex and look just as fantastic either way, so don't miss picking her up in May for about ¥10,380.

Don't go crazy pre-ordering this Black Rock Shooter
Black Rock Shooter's always seemed to be rather calm in the face of constant onslaught, but even she has a breaking point as evidenced by this roughed up Insane version coming from Good Smile. She's left behind the sleek, stylish look for something grittier and more industrial, with every bit of her armor possessing a nicely textured, rough metallic feel.
Gone too is her trademark glowing blue flame, replaced by a darker violet, though it can be removed for a closer look at some seriously out there looking eyes. It's easy to see that GSC put a lot of love into this design though, especially when it comes to the texturing and amount of detail and harshness seen in her giant weapon and chains. Of course the asking price for such a detailed figure isn't on the small side, so be ready to drop ¥10,580 if you want to add her to your collection in June.

Comiket 83: Gift plushes
Over at Comiket 83, Gift had quite a few of their poseable plushes to showcase. Some of them (Golden Darkness from To Love-ru, To Aru's Shirai Kuroko and Misaka Mikoto, and several of the Vocaloids) weren't so new and are, in fact, already available for pre-order at the usual online retailers. But, there were also some big new reveals, chief among them being a plush of 2013's Snow Miku design. She looks awfully spiffy with the lacy detail on her hood and the deep red embellishments on her outfit, which look great against her white robe. Also on display were three characters from DRAMAtical Murder: Aoba in his blue jacket, Noize with the fleece-lined beanie and jacket, and Koujaku wearing the red kimono. The detail on Noize and Koujaku look especially impressive.
What do you think of these new designs, Tomopeople?

Pre-order this Great Cute One, Nyaruko
Some may think Nyaruko-san's adorable renditions of horrific Great Old Ones might be tantamount to sacrilege, but I'll take a harem of cuties over formless abominations any day. Besides, cute girls are easier than shapeless masses to convert to PVC any day, so we can be thankful for this latest incarnation of the titular Nyaruko herself.
We've seen some figures of her in the past, but I think none of them even come close to the unfathomable cuteness seen in FREEing's offering. While she retains a fairly simple design overall, the combination of soft coloring and a stunningly adorable expression sends her desirability skyrocketing. It's even enough to make me ignore my hatred for obnoxious ahoge!
If you're not afraid of having an old one in your house, be ready to pick her up in May for the rather agreeable price of about ¥6,750.

Celebrate winter with a papercraft reindeer from Tearaway
Way back in August, Media Molecule posted everything fans would need to make their own papercraft elk, as seen in the trailer for their next game, Tearaway. For a sort of holiday gift, the company turned that blank template into a reindeer with a special, festive pattern. While it is no longer Christmas, why not make the little fellow to ring in the new year with? I hear they know how to party!

CF12 Culture Japan Booth
Comic Fiesta - Malaysia's longest running convention that focuses on animation, comics and games. Up until now due to filming in Tokyo, I've never been able to attend and have only seen it in photos and video - what I saw was an exciting looking anime event but now that I've experienced it first hand I can tell you that no photo or video will be able to express just how awesome CF is - you simply must experience it first hand next year!
We had a booth at CF - our first booth in Malaysia where we actually sold stuff. As with Singapore, I was not sure what to expect - especially after many folks complained about the prices of the T-shirts on Facebook and Twitter ><
We ended up selling over 1300 Moekana T-shirts, several hundred posters and Mirai Carry Cases. The queue was so long that it looped around the booth once and then trailed back up to the entrance of the hall. I shed a tear when I saw so many supporters and at the same time felt really bad for making everybody wait for so long ><
The Mirai Suenaga brand seems to be growing much of late and its thanks to your support - just like from these awesome cosplayers!
Our Culture Japan Mirai Kopitiam booth - the nicest booth we've had to date - a few improvements over Singapore and we've made learnings to make the next one even better.
A few of our team members from Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore!
Another reason why our booth was jam packed - Touch n Go.
Apologies to folks who queued up for hours only to be told they sold out. Touch n Go apologizes too ><
Touch n Go brought more stock to Culture Japan Night Kuala Lumpur and will be bringing more including 4 new designs to Culture Japan Night Penang.
I'm setting up a company in Malaysia now and once thats done we will work on rolling out Mirai Suenaga Touch n Go to the rest of the country.
This is our stock room at the beginning of day one...
And this is what we had left at the end of day two.
We had two Moekana T-shirt designs that we sold at Singapore...
And two new ones for CF.
Now currently working on logistics and payments to roll Culture Japan Apparel out to the rest of the world.
We had a graffiti wall for the first time and had to change the paper about 3 times as it filled up so quickly! Took photos and will post them in a separate post.
The start of the queue.
The queue went on...
...and on...
...and on...
...and on...
...and ended up near the entrance.
The folks at KLCC (Kuala Lumpur Convention Center) came over to warn us that our queue was preventing normal folks from coming in so after a while and for the second day, we wrapped the queue around the booth ><
Again, apologies for making you wait for so long and also to KLCC! This is our second time doing this and are learning a lot - we will get better at this and hope to make it a better experience for you next time.
As for folks who felt our stuff was expensive - I've distributed the original Photoshop files of Mirai illustrations so that you can print your own T-shirts and wot not for free - only for your own personal use though ^^;
Also, I encourage you to make friends in the queue so that if you buy more than two T-shirts, you get discounts.
I'm going to leave you with a wall of photos as I go and prep more CF coverage but before I leave, I would like to thank each and every one of you for your continued support - it means a lot to Mirai and me!
Thanks to Arka, Kodomut and Solomon for taking some of these photos.
