Eaglemoss adds black rook Killer Croc and more
Eaglemoss's latest batch of pre-orders includes (black rook) Killer Croc and (white pawn) Azrael for its Batman-themed chess set as well as Spider-Man 2099, Wiccan, and over-sized Executioner for its Marvel figurines. Plus four new Batmobile pre-orders are up.
Killer Croc joins Man-Bat as black's second rook. This reptilian rogue is dressed in a prison jumpsuit with a likeness that disappointingly doesn't resemble the look seen in Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham series. The hulking, violet Killer Croc makes something of an ideal rook given the character's association with raw power. The new white pawn, Azrael, seems a less fitting choice (given that he played Batman, wouldn't he be a better rook than Huntress?) but I guess somebody has to be a pawn. Azrael sports a pretty decent sculpt while I find the Killer Croc somewhat lacking. Both are due out in April and will run you US$16.
Fans of the year 2099 will be happy to see Spider-Man 2099 (recent co-star of Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions and Spider-Man: Edge of Time) join the line. Offhand, I believe him to be the first 2099-universe character to appear in Eaglemoss's figurine line. Given that he's currently the only truly relevant 2099er, there's some chance that he'll be the only one. Also up is Wiccan, the mysterious Young Avenger who seems to have reality-warping powers. And finally we have the over-sized Skurge the Executioner, an Asgardian who often serves as Amora the Enchantress's partner-in-crime and occasional member of the Masters of Evil. Out of the three, Eaglemoss seems to have done the best job on Skurge but that should be expected given the higher price tag (US$32) since he's a special edition, over-sized figurine. Finally we have more Batmobile dioramas. A classic 1960s Batmobile and Batman Returns Batmobile went up for pre-order a while back, but now they're to be joined by the Nolan-verse's Tumbler Batmobile, the Batman Forever Batmobile, a "Detective Comics #400" Batmobile, and a "Detective Comics #156" Batmobile. While I originally liked the concept, I'm starting to feel that this is getting old fast. The new movie Batmobiles are slated for an April release while the comic ones are due out in May. They'll run you around US$20.
