Having an Ultra Magnus made out of an Optimus Prime mold is not itself a shocking revelation. But the execution of this one was certainly atypical. And the added weapons compared to the original releases of the reused molds was just as much of an attention-getter. Read the full review.

Toro Toys' chiBOO is a little spooky resin buddy screenshot

Toro Toys has a little ghostly fellow they've released: meet chiBOO, spirits from a world beyond ours who are quite happy to meet you, and not for nefarious/evil reasons! The little guys are only 1-inch-tall and cast in solid white resin, as they're intended to be DIY pieces you can customize as you see fit. I'm used to seeing larger-scale DIY figures, but a small, inexpensive one? I could get behind that.

For the individual chiBOOs, you can pick them up right now in Toro Toys' shop for US$5. There's also a 5-pack available for US$25. One inch is pretty small, but a US$5? I can see it here a bit, if customizing is your thing.

    The X-Men Turn 50 in 2013

The golden anniversary of Marvel’s band of mutants takes place next year. To commemorate the occassion, the various X-titles will have variant covers that will take you back to a time when the franchise wasn’t yet a mainstream Hollywood property. Case in point are the covers to All-New X-Men #6 with the cast of Generation X by Chris Bachalo and X-Factor #250 with every person that’s been on the roster (wearing their late 80s/early 90s uniforms) by Clay Mann.

Pop Culture Shock to make 1/4-scale MOTU statues screenshot

Pop Culture Shock Toys have a few licenses under their belt that you might be familiar with, but they'dve just added another one. Starting next year, Pop Culture Shock is partnering with Mattel to launch a 1/4-scale Masters of the Universe statue line that will feature He-Man and his friends.

The other news we have in regards to the line is that the first statue will go up for pre-order starting in February 2013, and my guess is it'll be He-Man. We don't know that for sure, but MOTU fans, who do you want to see in 1/4-scale size?

A bad sign for some cool lines? screenshot

Generally when I see an entire line being clearanced at a retailer or, even worse, show up at an overstock retailer (TJ Maxx, Marshall's), I assume that news of an outright cancellation can't be far behind. The latest potential victims might be my much liked S.L.U.G. Zombies (currently on clearance at some Targets) and the Transformers Bot Shots line (currently showing up at some overstockers).

Given that Jakks Pacific's S.L.U.G. Zombies line is something of a fringe item, it's somewhat worrying news. S.L.U.G. Zombies is a reasonably priced line that appeals to some older (mostly nostalgic) audiences and, presumably, also some younger ones but I can't imagine it's terribly well-known. So far they've released four regular series (with the last one just now hitting retail) as well as some holiday packs. It would be heart-breaking to see the line die off so soon.

Transformers Bot Shots is something of a different matter, being a spin-off of a very well-established property that commands prime shelf space. At US$4 for a single-carded figure (and US$8~10 for a 3-pack), the Bot Shots are also very reasonably priced and affordable. Given the franchise name and game component, I would be extremely surprised to see the line fail. That said, the whole game component might have made a splash over twenty years ago (when such things were more common) but I can understand if it failed to gain traction with a generation growing up on video games.

At any rate, snap up the bargains when you can and pray that this isn't the end.

Pre-orders are available for Nendoroid Miku 2.0 screenshot

Fans of the Vocaloid Hatsune Miku rejoice! There is a new version 2.0 of Good Smile Company's ever so popular Miku Nendoroid. GSC really amped up the cuteness factor this time adding extra shine to the silver in her outfit and made her expressions super cute! Speaking of which she comes with a singing, winking, and shouting - blushing face! That's not all though, she comes with lots of extras, such as a standing and a sitting body a twin tails set for each position. Also there are of little props included such as two pairs of leeks, electric guitar, keyboard and a speaker set.

Really this is a pretty cool package, but what caught my eye first is how her twin tails have been sculpted to be lighter than the original, this should allow for much better poseability. Something else interesting is that her head is different than past Nendoroids, it was changed so that you can change her facial expression without taking her head off of the neck joint. Don't fear though, all of your other Nendoroid expressions should still work with her.

If you want to learn more about Good Smile Company's Miku 2.0 you should check out Mikatans full preview! I liked her photographs a lot so I included them in the gallery. But don't look too long, it would be best hurry up and order her if you want to collect her. Miku's pre-orders sold out super quickly at most stores and I do not expect the pre-orders to be open for her much longer. So, if you do want her, then you should know that Miku should ship out sometime in May of this year and has a suggested manufactures retail price of ¥3,900

    [ Pre-order at J-List ]

[Also available from the GSC Global Store!]
