Daniel Fleres' The Founding show opens Dec. 12

Daniel Fleres' The Founding show opens Dec. 12 screenshot

Daniel Fleres' Swanicorn has become a fan favorite in 2012, perhaps because of its chimerical design or the fact that it's just cute. But now, the Swanicorn will have spotlight all to itself to end 2012. In association with The Swanicorn Observational Society, Daniel will be showing off some new art and new Swanicorns on Dec. 12 through what I believe will be an online art show called The Founding. Everything kicks off at noon Pacific (3 p.m. Eastern, 8 p.m. GMT), and there's no word on when the festivities will end. Maybe never.

What's more, in addition to the new Swanicorns that will be in Daniel's shop for the event, he will be releasing new Swanicorns every month into the near future. That's awesome news and I'm wondering if he'll do something like Cavey and release themed Swanicorns each month. We'll have to see what his plans might be for that.

DCC unveils Arkham City Joker statue

DCC unveils Arkham City Joker statue screenshot

DC Collectibles' big reveal of the week is a mostly black and white Joker statue with green highlights, themed to his appearance in the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham City.

Even overlooking the rather nice sculpt-work, DCC's Arkham City Joker is visually striking just for the use of color. The greens used for his hair, bowtie, and (Titan Venom-related?) gunk on his hands give the statue a surreal look. However, I'm confused as to Batman: Arkham City designation since the character was suffering from some wicked withdrawal during the game.

Story consistency aside, the Batman: Arkham City Joker statue is an excellent collectible sure to brighten (or darken) the shelves of any Batman collector. Look for this figure in May and expect pre-orders to open very soon.

New Hasbro Beast Hunters and Takara FoC figures revealed

New Hasbro Beast Hunters and Takara FoC figures revealed screenshot

Thanks to Big Bad Toy Store we're getting our first look at some new Transformers Prime - Beast Hunters figures. First up is the much awaited preview of Voyager class Optimus Prime! For the most part I like what I'm seeing. His bot mode looks sturdy, he's got a ton of weapons, and his articulation seems to be in all of the right places. His Truck mode also looks like a real battle wagon, now taking on a 'cabover' style semi truck alt mode (like G1 Optimus Prime). Only two places I'm having trouble is the back kibble and the color choices. Kibble is the stuff that hangs off the bot mode with nowhere to go, if you look on Prime's pack you can see where the sides of his truck mode cab are just splayed out awkwardly. Hopefully that's just a mistransformation. The colors are a different story; they're very bright and that translucent green is far too much. We haven't seen the character model for the show yet so it's hard to say if all that green is accurate or not. Not so sure about the yellow door windows, either, they really clash with the green windshields. Hopefully we'll see some changes made when the figure is actually released.

That's not the only Optimus Prime we're seeing as we're also getting our first good look at the Cyberverse Commander version. The smaller version of Prime appears to have a better color sense as it fixes many of my complaints about the Voyager version. The colors are darker, there's no green, and the tire kibble is now shoulder armor. He also still has multiple weapons to make his truck mode look like a rolling armory. Seems like a solid figure to me. We're also seeing Predaking's Cyberverse figure again with a good look at the both modes. Not sure if the character translates quite as well into the Cyberverse scale as he did the Voyager scale. He's decent enough, nicely articulated and well sculpted, but the giant missile launching tail is odd looking and having the dragon head split in half and just hang up over his back is really bizarre. It's a strange thing when you've got a pair of characters with identical release scales, but one looks better as a Voyager and the other as a Cyberverse Commander.

Moving on to what's new from Takara Tomy we get a pair of not at all surprising announcements via TFSource. The first is that they'll be releasing Transformers: Fall of Cybertron Blaster around May. Not shocking news as Takara started allowing solicitations for Blasters minions Eject, Rewind, Ramhorn, and Sundor a while ago so it was only a matter of time before Blaster himself was announced. Blaster is a remold of FoC Soundwave in his familiar orange and yellow colors and will be packed with Steeljaw. What's a little more interesting is the pre-order for a FoC Skywarp! Historically this was just a matter of time as it'll be a repaint of Starscream, but where Hasbro hasn't announced this figure yet this could be an exclusive for Takara. I'm sure as this continues it'll only be a matter of time before Thundercracker is made as well.

Want to win US$200 in Zags? Whore self out on Facebook screenshot

Are you sick of Facebook contests yet? Every time I turn around, it seems like somebody else is running a contest for cheap "Likes" and, more often than not, a good number of people are friendship-whoring themselves into theses contests. The latest (and, well, frequent) "offender" is Zag Toys; this company wants you to subscribe to not one, not two, not three, but FOUR of their Facebook pages to enter. Feel slimy yet?

For the uninitiated, Zag Toys is the maker of blind-boxed items dubbed "Grab Zags" (you know, instead of "Grab Bags"?). The line consists of everything from superhero figurines to badly deformed superhero figurines (Nog'nz) to mini toy skateboards to, well, they do a lot of stuff. And now they're giving lucky fans who don't mind being subscribed to four separate pages (really? four?) a chance to win a lot of stuff. The grand prize winner gets SIXTY bags (ten each of: Ultimate Spiderman Grab Zags Minis, Marvel Universe Grab Zags, Marvel Avengers Grab Zags, Marvel Nitro Mites, Assorted Nitro Mites, and Marvel Nog'nz). Another five runner-ups will each score five blind bags of their choice.

The contest runs until December 20th. So far I'm guessing that around 238 people have entered, since that's the lowest number of likes on any of the pages. While the prizes are actually okay, I don't like Zag Toys enough to like the company four separate times. For those not bothered by this little detail, feel free to enter and rub it in our faces if you win something.
