Erick Scarecrow takes on Final Fantasy in latest teaser
On November 29, Erick Scarecrow of ESC-Toy tweeted a teaser image of a new project he had been working on (the right-side image in the header). He announced that the figure would be a repaint of Square-Enix's Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII. Then a few days later, bam!, we get an even bigger image from Erick's blog, this time showing not only the warrior's feathered armor detail but the whole back of the figure. The rainbow-like coloring is reminiscent of some of Erick's other works, such as his Kissaki Summer Dream. You may recall that Erick also worked with Naughty Dog to create Nathan Drake figures so working on games-related toys is familiar territory. I, for one, am excited to see how he will interpret Lightning's look into his own style. You can already see it in the painting and a little bit in her stance and the cut of the armor. I hope we get the full reveal soon!

Gundams and Dunny combine for a combo of...meh?
Sometimes custom works can be truly inspirational. There are pieces out there that make my jaw drop and make me question my skills and ability. Far be it from me to critique someone's artistic vision, but I'm honestly not too thrilled with this latest piece of work by Josh Mayhem. In what details as the Pink Gunny, you get exactly what the title says: a Dunny with Gundam parts attached and painted pink.
There just isn't much to write home about here. This is just parts placed haphazardly about to make a semblance of an armor. There's the torso and shoulders of the Sandrock, the wing binders from Wing Zero, and various parts taken from the Susanowo. And yes, they're painted all pink. It's a shame because there's better things that he's done, but this just feels really lazy. If I wanted to slap parts around, re-color them and sell them like they were something new, I'd make a series called Gundam SEED Vs. Astray.

Dolly Oblong's Yooki makes me feel warm and fuzzy
Sometimes custom figures are too cute not to post. Such is the case with Dolly Oblong's latest for the Sneaky Snow Ball at Kidrobot London, Yooki the Drifting Yeti. Other than the cute play on the name (Yuki — the Japanese word for "snow" — plus Foomi, the Munnyworld character's name), Yooki has a fun backstory. According to Dolly, Yooki is a "friendly floating yeti (who) scours the Arctic fishing for presents."
The custom Foomi comes with Yooki sitting atop his little chunk of ice, fishing pole in hand as he catches another present. It's one of my favorite Foomi customs I've seen to date, in no small part due to the adorable look and the themeing choices Dolly made to make him fit the Snow Ball's winter theme. Check out the gallery for some photos and visit the Dolly Oblong site for the latest from them!
