Super Mario Land 2 lives on in an unofficial DX colorized form
The Super Mario Land series is pretty special to me. Played countless times on car trips (along with the first Kirby game), I had every level burned in my mind, but most of the people I knew only played the "main" console games. Super Mario Land 2 was also a bit of an odd duck on its own, but 25 years later, fans have preserved the memory of the 6 Golden Coins with a colorized ROM hack.
Known as Super Mario Land 2 DX (as was customary for Game Boy Color games with official Nintendo nomenclature), it's basically the same thing just with full color (not the re-purposed broad hues that would be found on Super Game Boy and the like). Its creator Toruzz just dropped a new trailer to gander at, which you can check out below.

With the Switch now officially launched and several months into the next generation of Nintendo games, I thought it might be a good time to look back on its troubled older sibling. Nintendo certainly has been quick to sweep the Wii U under the rug following the Switch's release, and who could blame them given how abysmally it under-performed? The system struggled immensely out of the gate, with Nintendo heavily banking on the repeat success of the Wii by using the same branding and packing in another party game in the form of Nintendo Land. Unfortunately as we all know, it backfired spectacularly on them, with Nintendo vastly underestimating consumer fatigue toward the Wii brand and running a lackluster marketing campaign that failed to communicate what the system even was.
However as the Dreamcast has demonstrated, just because a console wasn't popular doesn't mean that it wasn't good. In fact, over time the Wii U brought out some of the best in Nintendo, perhaps serving as an important learning experience that helped them in some ways rediscover their roots. As time progressed, it seems Nintendo was forced to reconsider their strategy and recognize that they could not take the core market for granted anymore. Whereas the Wii often took classic Nintendo franchises and tried to make them more accessible to casual audiences by sacrificing depth and challenge, the Wii U instead opted for tried-and-true easy to learn but difficult to master gameplay, or in some cases just outright demanded your full commitment with no hand-holding whatsoever. Their philosophy had shifted toward the idea that ultimately challenging but rewarding gameplay will speak for itself, and you don't have to sacrifice challenge in order to be fun or accessible. After all, the original Super Mario Bros. was a brutally difficult game, and that game sold like...well, Super Mario Bros. Which is to say, it sold a lot of fucking copies. So people can handle more heat than we give them credit for.

Collectors have been asking for more varied sculpts and Superdoll has heard them. In this offering we have Inque, Voltaire and Venus. Certainly something for every Sybarite lover and all three for many.
As happens so often, the princess-type dolls are the first to sell out. Vushka is sold out. What I like best about her is her wig. While her gown is lovely, it's just not special enough. I can see that the crown and sceptre belong to her.
Kumalo is my personal favorite and I was lucky to get one. She is quite different from the faces on the dolls currently in my collection. When I saw her close-up three days ago, I was hooked. I tried to resist but it was futile. I'm glad I didn't wait too long. I think she will look amazing posed along with Forest.
There are some aspects about Rio that I do not like at all. Sorry to say that includes her face and costume. It does not come across as fashion at all but rather as unfinished toreador glitz. I'm sure that she will look lovely once redressed and rewigged; however, she's just not my cup of tea.
When will we see pierced ears on the GenX dolls? C'mon Superdoll, give us some openings for our own earrings!

Recently, Hasbro Australia had to decline to show off Power of The Primes Legends wave 2 at a fan meet event, by request of Hasbro's home office here in the US who had different plans for revealing those toys. But it turns out that decision wasn't entirely in their hands. Via Singapore retailer Robo Robo and Raid Raptor on Planet Iacon, we have photos of the new figures, which includes Tailgate, redeco/retool of Windcharger, and new molds Battleslash and Roadtrap representing the Duocon Battletrap. Needle Felted Church Shadow Box Picture Products - The Dolls Product Lines Series
I thought it would be nice to create a mountain type church winter scene with a church, evening stars, mountain range, evergreen trees, and oak tree and then create a free e-pattern so you could create one of your own.
At the last minute I decided to add the Dimensions Needlecraft Needle Felted Character Kit, Snowman that I had bought and created as I thought he looked cute with the scene. I blogged about it and reviewed it in a Linda's Blog post entitled Dimensions Needle Felted Snowman Kit.
While creating some new winter custom fabric designs I decided winter church scenes would make an adorable design for fabric so I created one, then two, then three, etc. I always get carried away.
I also designed a church cut and sew ornament as I thought it would look pretty on a Christmas tree.
So, the needle felted church shadow box has custom fabric products of its' own. I hope you like them.

Mighty Gunvolt Burst, one of the best platformers of 2017, adds a host of playable villains
Inti Creates was low key one of the best developers of 2017.
They supported their games through free and paid DLC, and listened to their fans when issues arose or there were features that folks wanted implemented. Given that they're the same studio behind the Mega Man Zero and ZX series it makes sense, and even with just Blaster Master Zero and Mighty Gunvolt Burst this year, they rocked it.
The latter is getting its 1.3 update today, which adds in three villains for $1.99 each. Copen from Azure Striker Gunvolt, Kurona of Gal Gun fame, and Ray from Mighty No. 9 will all arrive this week, and once again the latter looks like a better version of what we got from Comcept.

King of Fighters '96 arrives today on Nintendo Switch
The third title in SNK's legendary King of Fighters series, KoF '96, is available for download today on Nintendo Switch, as part of Hamster's ACA Neo Geo range.
Although it suffers from some real balance issues, the 1996 iteration of the popular fighting franchise is the game in which the series really found its feet. It features the playable debut of some great characters, such as the sinister duo of Mature and Vice, Art of Fighting 3's Kasumi Todoh and Best Girl Leona Heidern (who is OP as hell in this).
KoF '96 was probably the arcade I put more money into than any other, as there was one situated at my college. It has great, dynamic stages, featuring awesome pixel art. The fight rewards aggression, with characters becoming more of a threat as their health lowers. I spent my formative educational years playing this instead of studying, which is how I got to where I am today.
If you kids want to ruin your own future, but have a lot of while doing so, then King of Fighters '96 is available today on Nintendo Switch, priced at $8.
