Every time I see pictures of the destruction of Far Rockaway and Rockaway Beach I feel stunned. My grandparents had a summer house on Beach 29th at Seagirt and I spent the best part of my childhood there. That house was razed years ago but is in my heart forever. Going to the beach during the day and the boardwalk at night. It never got any better.
The boardwalk is gone.

As an adult I taught in a public school on Beach 5st St and I could see the ocean 2 blocks away through my classroom window. I wonder if the mosaic mural my art students created survived in the lobby of the building.

Another hurricane I remember...I was less than 10 years old. My mother drove to Rockaway from Brooklyn where we lived to 'rescue' my grandparents because the bay and the ocean had met. I remember all the earth worms on the sidewalks. There's no reason or rhyme as to what is important to a young child. That was very long ago. The water was thigh high in front of the house. I don't remember where my mother parked the car.
The Rockaways are situated between the Atlantic Ocean on one side and Jamaica Bay on the other.
Please donate something to the American Red Cross. Anything. This is the United States and we need each other. It happened here.![]()

Trio of Santa's Terracotta Santa's - New E-Pattern
"Trio of Santa's", Terracotta Carolers E-Pattern - Christmas Series - Pattern Category - Skill Level - Beginner
I just love working with terracotta and creating all sorts of wonderful decorations. Several years ago I decided to experiment and try making Christmas carolers and Santa decorations out of terracotta. They turned out wonderful so I made a bunch to give away as gifts. Everyone loves them so I thought I'd create e-patterns so you can make your own group of terracotta carolers and Santa's.
"Trio of Santa's" is a pattern to create 3 different sizes of Santa's. All have painted terracotta bodies, painted wood knob heads, fur for their hair and beards,and decorative Christmas fabric caps with pompom tips.
"Trio of Santa's" are fun and easy to make and are adorable decorations for the holiday season.

Grizzly Gus and Grizzly Sam have never know a day without each other. They may be cousins, but they act more like twin brothers. They dress alike, they think alike, they like the same things - they're both even sweet on the same girl.
Both love to hunt and love the outdoors. They laugh together, they cry together, they fight, and sometimes they even swear. But, they are devoted to each other and would defend the other even to the death. That's how close they are.
Grizzly Gus is a 14" cloth Santa mounted on a wood stained base. His face is drawn and he has two black beads for eyes, a pink pompom nose, and wire rimmed glasses. He has a full beard and full mustache of raw mohair. His wiry white hair is barely controlled under his flannel checkered hat with corduroy brim.
Grizzly Gus is wearing his favorite flannel short which is gathered at the neck and his favorite woodsy brushed flannel vest with cabin, tree, and button decorations. His flannel cuffed and flannel plaid pants are the most comfortable and warm pants he has. He's got his best work gloves on and his black work boots. He's wearing his warmest white socks which are wrapped with rope to keep out the cold and which are also decorated for the Christmas holiday season.
He's carrying the Christmas tree he and Grizzly Sam cut down this morning as well as carrying his bag with all the toys in it for the good boys and girls.
Life is good for Grizzly Gus and Grizzly Sam.

Santa On The Moon is an adorable 10" cloth Santa and moon decoration that will make the cutest decoration on any wall this holiday season.
The adorable yellow moon is adorned with appliqued stars, a wire ribbon bow, Christmas packages and a sleeping Santa.
Santa is carrying his list, but he seems to have fallen asleep His cloth face is embroidered and he has fallen asleep with his wire glassed on. He has a full mustache, full raw mohair beard and and white hair barely controlled under his plaid flannel nightcap.
He's wearing his favorite blue flannel nightgown, with red/white wool socks, and brushed flannel slippers.
