Warren Buffett takes 3 percent stake in Germany's Lanxess
Lanxess (LXSG.DE) disclosed on Monday that Berkshire Hathaway (BRKa.N), the conglomerate run by billionaire Warren Buffett, had acquired a 3 percent stake in the German chemicals maker. Lanxess shares jumped 2.9 percent to 65.06 euros by 0936 GMT after the news, even though the stock was trading without the rights to a 0.70 euro-per-share dividend for the first time. In a regulatory filing, Lanxess said that Berkshire Hathaway's General Reinsurance subsidiary took a stake that reached just over 3 percent on May 19.

Gold holds near 1-month peak as dollar, stock markets soften
Gold hit its highest level since May 1 on Friday at $1,269.50 an ounce, as nervousness over U.S. President Donald Trump's negotiations with other world leaders at the G7 summit prompted investors to buy bullion as an alternative to nominally higher-risk assets such as shares. "Potential for prices is limited right now, but with the news from the G7 meeting and the weaker dollar, the gold price has gone up," said LBBW analyst Thorsten Proettel. Gold is highly sensitive to rising U.S. rates, which increase the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding bullion, while boosting the dollar, in which it is priced.
