Shunya Yamashita's Rei Ayanami goes up for pre-order
Wow, it's been a while since I last saw full blown Evangelion scale figure go up for pre-order. This certainly wouldn't count as a traditional Rei figure since the design has been made over by illustrator Shunya Yamashita. When was the last time Flare manufactured a figure designed by Yamashita and sculpted by Reflect? It feels like 2010 all over again!
This Rei Ayanami follows up the Yamashita-designed Asuka from way back in 2010, when Flare was still going by Yamato (and Asuka still went by Sohryu, for that matter). That's quite a gap... almost as long as the gap between the Evangelion film releases! As you can see, this particular Ayanami is based on the Evangelion 3.0 incarnation. A lot of... strange things happened in that movie, but long story short, we don't know if this is really Rei.
I dig it though. It's not a great Rei figure but it's still a nice looking figure, and I am perhaps too much of a Yamashita fanboy. This one's set for an October release and is out for pre-order for ¥12,744.

Threezero's 1/6 Genos is crazy awesome
As the second season of One Punch Man draws near(ish), Threezero is gearing up to release another figure from the series. This time it's Genos, Saitama's cyborg disciple! This is a slick 1/6-scale articulated figure with battery-powered lighting effects!
I'm gonna be honest, their 1/6 Saitama - while faithful to the character design - looks like a dollar store action doll. It's just inherent to Saitama's look. This Genos, though, is a work of art! What's especially cool is how Threezero worked in Genos' various weapons. It goes without saying, they made Genos look like a proper badass!
Japan-based collectors can order from the Good Smile Online Shop for ¥25,920. International customers can put in their pre-orders for US $190.00 from the Threezero store. There's also an exclusive edition with incinerator cannon arm parts for US $210.00. Check out Kahotan's Blog for the full preview!

Mezco's One:12 Collective Wolverine is up for pre-order, bub!
If I have a weakness for one Wolverine costume, it's for variations of his brown/tan outfit first introduced during John Byrne's' X-Men in the 80s. While variations of the yellow/blue outfit would ultimately prove more prevalent, the colors just never seemed to capture the character as well (especially since they'd stand out in a forest). Perhaps Mezco Toys feels the same way, as the company recently opened pre-orders for a version of this iconic outfit.
Mezco's One:12 Collective Wolverine conveys much of the awesomeness of my favorite costume. The figure is billed as standing over 15-cm tall (putting it around 6-inches) and features two headsculpts along with six interchangeable hands and the Muramasa katana. Couple that with 30 points of articulation, and you have one fantastic figure.
The One:12 Collective Wolverine can be pre-ordered directly from Mezco for US$80 and is expected to ship between August and October 2017. Will you be picking one up?

Is your spider-sense going crazy? Maybe you detect a new Mystery Minis series!
Is there such a thing as too many Mystery Minis? My shelves are beginning to think so! However, all the same I'll be happy to add a few figures from Funko's upcoming Classic Spider-Man series to my collection.
The Classic Spidey series features... well, a lot of spiders! In addition to the usual Peter Parker Spider-Man, it includes Ultimate Spidey (Miles Morale), Scarlet Spider (clone Ben Reilly), Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew), Spider-Gwen, and Silk. Geez, crack out the bug spray already!
They're joined by a number of professional spider-squashers in the form of iconic Spidey villains. These villains (and I *wish* they had done more) include Vulture, Doctor Octopus, Kraven the Hunter, Green Goblin, Rhino, Lizard, Sandman and Venom. (Notably absent? Hobgoblin!) Additionally there's the tweener Black Cat who has occasionally alternated between friend and foe.
It's a great-looking line-up (other than no Hobgoblin) even if it's a little too spider heavy (you know what might have broken that up? A Hobgoblin). Expect to see these figures out in May (but don't expect to find a Hobgoblin.... unless he's been saved for a Hot Topic exclusive).
