The Destructoid Wrestling Tournament starts tomorrow, post your predictions here!
We've just finished taping the Destructoid Championship Tournament and the first episode is set to go live Monday, April 3rd. Get ready to rumble, folks.
The first couple episodes will deal with the Destructoid Championship tournament, where current Destructoid staffers battle for the honor of being dubbed the first-ever Destructoid Champion. Except we could only find seven volunteers, so...wait, what's that? Zack Furniss, our resident horror expert, thought about the film The Bye Bye Man and now the eponymous Bye Bye Man will be facing Zack in the tournament?? In a match that can only be decided by pinfall, submission, or death?!
After we've finished with the Destructoid Championship Tournament, we'll move onto the Sizzleweight Championship Tournament, which is open to: Destructoid alumni, community members, and, uh, the Babadook. Weird. That card will feature community upstart Sir Charles of Shred, former community manager Andy Dixon, my wrestling arch-rival Max Scoville, and so many more!
Each tournament will feature random match types, but the respective championships will be decided in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match. The winners of each tournament will put their newly earned straps on the line at CoximanoMania, in a triple threat against the winner of the Loser's Bracket Royal Rumble.
We've posted the full brackets for each tournament below. Post your predictions! If you're right (and you don't already know the answer) maybe you'll win something! I dunno. I'm capricious.
Here's a big gaming April Fools 2017 roundup
I'm so glad April Fool's was on Saturday this year.
When it's during the work week, I'm trying to frantically decide what's real and what's not, but when just about everyone is off for the weekend, most of the jokes came early on Friday night.
Here's a recap of some of the jokes you might have missed, and feel free to share others in the comments below.
New Splatoon 2 map has a funny name and kick-ass layout
Having April 1 be a Saturday was supposed to be safe. Gaming news is rarely announced on weekends, so it was the perfect opportunity to turn our site over to the dogs without having to worry about missing anything important. At least, that's what we thought. Instead, there was a bit of news yesterday that has me quite excited.
At the ESL Europe Grand Final (congrats to team Rising Moon), we were given a look at a new stage in Splatoon 2: Humpback Pump Track.

Two big names have left Square-Enix
March 31 was a quite an interesting day for the industry. It was Palmer Luckey's last day at Facebook, longtime developer Koji Ishitani's final day at Monolith Soft, and the last day at Square-Enix for Yoshinori Yamagishi and Isamu Kamikokuryo.
Yamagishi is best known for producing the Star Ocean series and Valkyrie Profile. Kamikokuryo served on several high profile games and was the art director for the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy, Final Fantasy XV, and The 3rd Birthday. Both announced their resignations on Twitter and said they are looking forward to moving onto new projects.

It is about time we got a Castlevania compilation
Last month, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night celebrated its 20th anniversary. 20 years ago, a game regularly seen on Best Of lists, showed the world that there was still demand for rich, intense 2D action in an era where everything was jumping to the next dimension. While there was a PlayStation at the Andriessen household during those days, we skipped out on Symphony as my brother and I were also making the jump to predominantly 3D games. A real shame because being a huge fan of Super Metroid that I was and still am, I know I would have loved it back then as much as I do right now, having just completed the game for the first time a few days ago. It’s practically perfect with so much to discover, such great music, excellent controls on my PlayStation TV and amazingly 90s voice acting. And those wonderful pixelated graphics still hold up so damn well. When I finished, I immediately wanted to play the next game in the series, something I couldn’t do because I, for some dumb fucking reason, traded in all of my Castlevania games years ago. Boy, if only I had a compilation of Castlevania titles.
How has this not happened already? You have a series with a mostly continuous storyline that spans 30 years and more than a dozen consoles, and the best we’ve seen so far is the first three games bundled for the PC. Several entries, including Symphony, Aria of Sorrow, Order of Ecclesia and Super Castlevania IV, are often referred to as some of the best games ever created. It’s not like there isn’t a market for it. Mega Man games are ported to every goddamn system on the planet and they still get compilation releases from time to time to go along with their own fucking amiibo. Even if it was just the Metroidvania titles, it would still be one of the greatest compilations discs ever printed.
I know Konami isn’t really doing much with gaming right now outside of overpriced Bomberman games, Yu-Gi-Oh! apps, PES and whatever the fuck Metal Gear Survive is going to be, but surely someone in that company can see what a forehead-smackingly brilliant idea this is, and if you don’t think so, look at the reception Capcom got with its Disney Afternoon Collection announcement. It is inexcusable that a Castlevania compilation isn’t already a thing, and I can’t think of a better series that deserves all of its titles brought together on one disc.
