Five new Sideshow pre-orders offer something for everyone screenshot

It's been a while since we've mentioned Sideshow Collectibles' latest offerings, but here we are, with not one, not two, but five different pieces that have recently opened for pre-order. Quite a diverse selection, too, including Star Wars, movies and comic collectibles.

Wondering what's new? Hit the jump to find out!

To start, there's the Captain Jack Sparrow, one of the Sideshow pieces we saw at San Diego Comic Con. Coming in April 2013, Jack Sparrow is US$379.99 and comes with a ton of well-sculpted accessories, like his flintlock pistol, sword and scabbard, compass and other bits and bobs hanging from his sash and belt. Those of you jumping on the Sideshow Exclusive variant get an alternate head, featuring Jack wearing his bandana, to swap out the regular head with.

Not feeling the call of the high seas but still in search of adventure? Then you might be interested in Sideshow's 1/5-scale Indiana Jones "Pursuit of the Ark" statue, featuring Indiana on horseback as seen in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Standing 23 inches tall, the statue is set for a June 2013 release and is the biggest and most expensive of the five pieces at US$499.99. The Sideshow Exclusive variant comes with an alternate hand for Indy that has him wielding a pistol.

The next entry in the DC Premium Format Figure line is also up for pre-order today, Green Lantern. A full 21 inches tall, Green Lantern is an April 2013 release at US$349.99. For those wondering what the Sideshow Exclusive version bonus is, it's a big green hard light fist construct on Lantern's right arm.

For Star Wars fans, there's two things to note. First is the next entry in the Star Wars Mythos line, the Gammorean Executioner. A hulking 19 inches tall or 1/5 scale, the big green guy will be releasing in March 2013 for US$324.99, but you can pre-order him now. Loving the detail on this piece, especially the base.

Finally, if you're collecting from the Star Wars Sixth Scale family, there's the Padawan Obi-Wan Sixth Scale figure. Fully articulated, the 12-inch-tall (1/6-scale) Obi-Wan features a head sculpted and handpainted to look like Ewan McGregor, with the Sideshow Exclusive variant adding a second "lightsaber duel" head to the mix. Both versions come with three sets of hands, two sets of boots, a full Jedi knight outfit based on the one Obi-Wan wore in Episode I, a lightsaber hilt and ignited blade, and a swappable hand that has a battery-powered illumination effect. He releases in February 2013 for US$149.99

ThreeA items appear in Team Fortress 2 screenshot

If you remember back to ThreeA's SDCC exclusives, you might remember they came with in-game codes for something in Team Fortress 2, a war-themed hat simulator that a certain editor-in-chief plays on a very frequent basis. Those codes, when entered, gave folks a mysterious present, and today, those presents were unwrapped to reveal in-game items, just as we'd suspected all along. This is Valve, after all.

Buyers of the Sandvich unlocked the Robo-Sandvich, while those who bought the Weighted Companion Square got something a billion times better: the Friends Forever Companion Square Badge, a digital version of their Companion Squares to wear in-game. Look at him! He's so tiny and adorable. Both unlocks also came with the Triple A Badge, which is just the ThreeA logo.

If you didn't get one in the initial rush, you're out of luck. Am I upset about this because I'll never get to show off my collector's pride in one of my favorite games for all to see? YES Not really, as there isn't much anyone can do.

  • 09/21/12--19:58: Linkin Park Nendoroid

  • Other than anime and game characters, Good Smile Company have been making quite a few figure renditions of humans (gasp). The next product is Linkin Park who get their very own Nendoroids! This set of the whole band should be out any time now - retail price is 4,000 yen.

Check out the following trusted online figure dealers if you are looking to order this set.

The question to you (and Good Smile Company are listening) is who do you want to see being made into a Nendoroid? How about some seiyuu or music artists and if so who?
There is a poll embedded in this article.

  • 09/21/12--21:13: Streets of Tokyo 2

  • Started this series a year ago and only managed to do the 2nd installment today ><
Today we continue to take a look at the streets of Tokyo - some of these taken on trips outside of the metropolis though. Japan looks great when seen from the street view or trains but there are places that you cant normally get to or see unless you travel by car.

As with the previous post, you will notice just how clean the streets are. The Japanese are a diligent bunch of folks and most do their bit to keep the streets clean. There are even some parts of the highway where you see workers run out to remove anything that has wandered its way onto the lanes like wood or bits that have fallen off trucks.

Highways are known as Kousoku [高速[こうそく]] which means "high speed" - they are also known as Yuuryou Douro [有料道路[ゆうりょうどうろ]] or "toll roads" - we usually pay something like 700 yen to use them on a one way trip within the metropolis.

Traffic is not so bad in Tokyo - unless there is heavy rain (folks drive slower) or an accident - or a weekend. I try to avoid traveling on a weekend as much as possible. I remember travelling up to Nikko spending about 5 hours in traffic and only a couple of hours at the destination ><

As with before - feel free to use these photos as you please and if you are a manga artist and need some backgrounds then feel free to trace too.
