An Idea To Help My Mother - Seasonal and Holiday Mixed Media Cube Tower

My mother always loved to decorate for the various holidays and various seasons and loved decorating her home with handmade decorations either she had made or were made for her by her children.   So, when my mother down sized and moved into a senior citizen apartment many years ago she didn't have a lot of room to store or display her seasonal and holiday decorations.

In thinking about this over the years I thought about handmade decorations that could be left out for several holidays and several seasons.  Something that wouldn't take a lot of room.  Something you could bring out in September and leave out until March.

Well, light dawned on me one day and multi holiday and multi season mixed media 3-level collage art blocks seemed to fit the bill.  The multi level wood blocks would be perfect for a multi seasonal multi holiday mixed media collage decoration that could be left out for many months.

Since the Fall, Christmas, and Winter seasons are my favorite times of the year I thought my blocks should have a Fall side,  a Christmas side, a Winter side, and a Halloween side.  And, best of all, they could be left out for 7 months.  All you'd have to do was turn the block for the season or holiday you wanted.

I ended up creating two 9" x 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" 3-tier mixed media collage art block towers with  a Fall side,  a Christmas side, a Winter side, and a Halloween side and two 4 1/2" x 2" x 2" mixed media mini art lock towers with a Fall side,  a Christmas side, a Winter side, and a Halloween side.

Fall, Halloween, Christmas, and Winter 3-Tier Mixed Handmade Media Art Collage Cube Tower A - 9" x 3 1/2" x 3 1/2"

If you're looking for a decoration that doesn't take up a lot of room and can be left out from September 1st until March 31st our 3-tier Fall, Halloween, Christmas, and Winter mixed media art collage cube tower would be a perfect fit.

With a Fall side,  a Christmas side, a Winter side, and a Halloween side all you have to do is turn the block for the season or holiday you want.

Our decoration is perfect for anyone with limited space for displaying decorations and limited space for storing decorations.

My Goddess Doll Adventure and My Goddess Doll Tutorials, Video's, Patterns, and How-To's Pinterest Board

It's no surprise that over the past few years I've been on a goddess doll adventure. It started back in February of 2009.   I had decided that I was going to try something new that year. To try and make a type of doll that I haven't made as of yet. Given that I've made over 2,000 dolls it would hard to imagine there was a doll I hadn't made.

Well, believe it or not but there were thousands of different types of dolls I hadn't made and one of them was a beaded goddess art doll. Either with a clay face or with a cloth face.

I had been wanting to make one for quite some time. The problem was - lack of time. So, I thought that maybe if the bodies were already made then I could just embellish the rest. Maybe?

So, when I saw that Monica Magness of "Girl Gone Thread Wild" blog had a batch of 10 small goddess art forms for beading, painting & altering for sale on her GirlGoneThreadWild Etsy shop I decided to buy them! The doll bodies were between 4"-6" tall in size of various colors.

The question became how I should I finish them? Some of the "goddess dolls" that I had seen were either faceless (which is fine with me) or had cloth faces, clay faces, had sun or moon faces, even beaded faces. Some of the face shapes were round or oval, some were square, and some were triangles. I hadn't quite decided what kind of face I wanted to try but I wanted to be prepared.

I also needed to decide whether they should have hair or no hair. Headdress or no headdress? I knew I wanted my "goddess dolls" to have beaded decorations along their bodies or in their clothes so I decided to visit my local craft stores to see what they had. I was expecting a little section of beads. Au Contraire! Make that ROWS and ROWS of beads. Aisles and aisles of beads. So many so that it was almost impossible to decide.

Should they be round? Should they be flat? Should there be a combination of the two? Should they be large, small, or medium in size? What color? Solid or multi-colored? Shiny or not? And on and on it went!

Obviously, this was not going to be as easy as I had thought. I really hadn't thought this through and should have tried to design what I wanted my goddess dolls to look like before I attempted to by the beads. Should they be traditional mixed media art dolls or should I make them a little different? Maybe they shouldn't even have beads? But, I really want to try beading as the dolls I've seen are just so beautiful. Time consuming to make, but beautiful.

In any event, I bought several different colors and sizes of beads and because I like to be organized I also bought some containers to house my beads. Can't have them falling all over the floor. That would not be good!

So, I had my goddess doll forms, hair, beads and embellishments. Since I just love history I decided to do a little research on the Internet on "goddess dolls" also known as healing dolls and spirit dolls and ended up writing two blog posts on this:

My goddess doll adventure started in 2009 and didn't end until September of 2015 when I finally had a chance to make them and wrote about them in my blog post entitled "Update To My Goddess Doll Adventure - After Seven Years They Finally Came Into Being."

A couple of weeks after I finally made them I decided to see if there was any more information out there on them so you could make one of your own and wrote a blog post entitled "A Little More Information on Making Goddess, Spirit and Healing Dolls Of Your Own."

Since then I decided to create a Goddess Pinterest board for all the wonderful tutorials, patterns and how-to's I've found on Goddess dolls.

No matter what type of goddess, spirit or healing doll you choose to make they all promote aspects of femininity, humanity, spirituality, compassion, humility, healing power, beauty, love, wisdom, peace, passion, truth, strength, intuition, fulfillment and empowerment. The goddess is seen embracing all aspects of life, all seasons, and all natural elements and goddess dolls represent all of her various aspects.

Today's "goddess dolls" are there to share your hopes, dreams, and listen to your fears. They provide comfort and solace in your time of need. They provide you with the strength you need to face the challengers in your life and empower you to succeed. To release your own "inner goddess." They are lovingly made and given out of heartfelt love from one human being to another. They offer nothing more than love, compassion, understanding, and peace.

I have a goddess doll obsession and want to learn everything about them. I hope you enjoy the tutorials, video's, patterns and how-to's I've found.

New Kingdom Doll Photos

Chaucer wearing a fashion by Magdalena Bareja. The wig is from Kingdom Doll Viola.

Savile models a Tonner gown from a doll called "Cyclone Cantata." Her wig was made by Ilaria.

Viola is wearing an Antonio Realli gown and jewelry by Integrity Toys. Wig by Ilaria in the first photo. I'm not sure who created the platinum wig or the rhinestone jewelry in the second photo.

The second photo of Viola was shot on an iPhone using it's built-in flash. I did tone down some of the glare on her face and chest. You can see that the highlights in her wig are burnt out with no detail. It's far from a perfect way to take pictures but the doll is gorgeous anyway!

Arnamentia is wearing her gorgeous beaded jacket created by Priya Desu Bohra, a Tonner's Precarious "Scandal" skirt and jewelry, possibly by Joy Jared. The wig was made by Cheryl Wood.
She is the newest release from Kingdom Doll and I plan to spend lots of time redressing her.

Looking seriously bored.

My doll room is in a different part of the house from my studio where I take pictures. After I redress a doll, I take pictures with my iPhone. Once in a while they turn out OK, like the one below of Arnamentia wearing her original wig.

Below is a silly photo of Viola and Arnamentia seated on furniture I recently acquired during Horsman's amazing sale. The tables and mirror in the photo are Horsman as well.

The much anticipated Charlotte Olympia Barbie doll is now available to order on Net-A-Porter.com. The doll is supposed to be released through the Charlotte Olympia website on the 6th of September. The renowned accessories designer has also designed a capsule collection of real life shoes and bags to go with the doll, which you can shop here.

I love the accessories but the €202 price tag is quite high. The american price is $125 on the designer website.

They even included the leopard Bruce that is a fixture in the Charlotte Olympia shops.

The accompanying description: An absolute must for collectors, Charlotte Olympia's Barbie® is inspired by the original 1959 doll, right down to her elegant feline facial features and perfectly coiffed hair. This Collection Gold Label® edition is wearing a leopard-print dress and 'Dolly' pumps and carries the 'Bogart' tote with matching gloves. Inside the box you'll also find some miniature 'Kitty' flats, an 'I Love Shoes' tote and the brand's big cat mascot, Bruce.

Below is the back of the box, with all the details. And the designer's inspiration?

"A childhood dream come true, Charlotte Olympia and Mattel collaborate on a very special collector's Barbie® doll. Taking inspiration from the original 1959 Barbie®, Charlotte Olympia styles her in a two-piece leopard print outfit with a pair of signature red Dolly platform pumps on her feet, accompanied by the iconic red Bogart leather handbag and matching leather gloves. A lady of true glamour and refinement, her hair is set in blonde retro waves and she comes with a closet's worth of Charlotte Olympia signature accessories, including the brands leopard mascot. The Barbie® capsule collection features a range of Pretty in Pink Kitty Flats, ultra-girly platforms pumps and sandals and Barbie® themed clutches for a fun and timeless flash-back look".

The box includes the doll carrying her accessories plus two additional signature pairs of shoes; the Kitty Flats and the Eve platform sandals, the Pandora clutch box complete with insert, the Banana bag, the Web fascinator, 1950’s inspired cat-eye sunglasses and a Charlotte Olympia shoebox with dust bag and polaroid. For the adult collector.
